  1. Off Topic - Talbot, where do you go to school, when do you graduate, and what do you want to do after that?
  2. ^^Exactly. That preacher is not setting a very good example in God's name, for others to follow - EITHER by: recieving large monetary gifts OR recieving a large paycheck from the church.
  3. You missed the point - I'm not talking about average people, I'm talking about the leaders of churches. I'm also only referring to those leaders of churches who have large salaries, large homes, expensive cars, and designer clothes - all off their congregation's dime. Church tithes should not be making rolls royce payments, or american express payments. Church tithes should be going back into the church - for the members, not the leader. Modern Church = Typical Politics.
  4. Maybe because they're not actually that "cool".
  5. I agree with the filling in. Basically, it would be no different if Woodlands, Kingwood, Fairfield, First Colony and the older outlying communities built closer in, where the in-fill is now taking place. Either way, we'd still be as far out as we are.
  6. I think the only way 3rd ward could ever make a comeback is with a gentrification movement like 4th ward. I know its not popular - but what are your other choices?
  7. But we don't have time to form educated & calculated opinions about Dallas - we have to act now!
  8. America went through a giagantic growth spurt during open immigration before WW2, and then again with the baby-boomers after WW2. Since then, things have tapered off, and most familys are somewhere between 3 and 5 versus 5 and 10 like the previous generations. Also, if the governement would control the borders, that would slow the population growth, inturn slowing sprawl. Finally, things here in Houston are worse than most areas. Like I said earlier, over 90% of the country is undeveloped forest, mountains, bodies of water, or farmlands. Even if we doubled our population, and assumed that with sprawl the doubled population now of 600 million would take up twice as much space for sprawl, that's still only another 20%. So with 600 million people, you're looking at 30% occupied and 70% still free. We're fine - no worries.
  9. Has HISD been proactive in getting soda machines out of its schools?
  10. And this is how the common man who is supposed to follow the megachurch's "MTV CRIBS" style pastor sees it: WRONG. All the bible teaches is for the shepherds of God to be humble servants. There's nothing humble about those lifestyles. I can allow the logic behind Lakewood being built in the Compaq Center - that's okay. The church is communal property for all to come in and worship God. What's not cool is if Joel is taking limo's to and fro, living in a million dollar house, or any of the other excessive luxuries that are not symbolic of a "shepherd" for God. The only justification he has is that he's made his own money from his books so that he can live that way. If it weren't for that, he would be wrong 100%. I'm not going to even try to figure the logic in the preacher from Atlanta who needs a Rolls Royce to get to church. I doubt he's written books or anything else to supplement his income so I'm sure we'll be seeing him in hell. Also - why would someone who wants to lead and share his Christianity by example want to live like a Playboy Model, Actor, Sleezy Businessman, or even a Sports Star? They're all going to hell in a handbasket - why would someone so reverent want to do the same? God = Humility.
  11. Well, this happens about once a month. A topic that has long taken its course gets dredged up and re-hashed all over again.. I'll give you credit though, you don't normally do as such, so I'm sure it was just an honest inquiry. Just watch though, if not this thread, then maybe another - but some new member always finds an old post, goes on a 1 post rampage, and then never to be heard again.
  12. Yeah - one big suburb.. I'm guessing that will happen right after we run out of oil right? Less than 10% of this country is developed - and that's with over 300 million people. I'm not too worried about it.
  13. Thats not a bad idea. Who are the main animated charactors from Pixar? I know there's Woody & Buzz-light year. Whoelse though? Couple that with Landry's ability to market & draw crowds, you could have a very successful venture.
  14. No arguements here - Mark's is the best when it comes to fine dining.
  15. I'd be willing to give it a try. I'd have to think at this point with US290 - ANYTHING is better than NOTHING.
  16. Whatever happened to the I-45/I-10 alternate downtown bypass through First Ward? Did that finally die out?
  17. I've spent alot of time in the Oak Forest area in the last 2 years, and there's nowhere to put a toll/freeway through there - at least not without razing some homes. No Bueno.
  18. If nothing else - it just doesn't look right, for the pastor to live in a 500,000 dollar house. There's nothing humble about that. I don't care if the church did pay for it. And if the church did pay for it, then its likely the church has spent millions over the years on things OTHER than the community - which to me, should always be the first priority.
