  1. I wouldn't close Main St. I would close maybe Texas from San Jacinto to Louisiana. That street would be better suited to serve as a "strip" for downtown.

I think we want to leave Main St. to the fine dining & retail (that will hopefully one day come).

  2. I'm bothered by two things here..

    1. This topic of sprawl was started by someone with the name "SpringTX".

    2. Both options reak of Communistic Socialism.

Here's my answer - everyone just relax, Sprawl will reach an apex eventually. There are too many factors that are slowly growing against it. When it finally does come to a head, one of two - well maybe three - things will happen:

    1. Inner & Mid-city densification.

    2. Edge-city & Suburb centralization & densification.

    3. Fallout - watch Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome for details.

Either way I'm stocking up on gold, water purifications equipment, medicine, solar panels, and guns. See you fools on the other side!

  3. Just imagine when the word gets out to the homeless population what's going on over there.

saaaaaaaaaaweet. I hope all the bums in the city go there looking for a hand-out. Since I never frequent that area, that should open the rest of city and ensure I'll be able to once again pull up to an intersection without having to roll-up my windows.

Sorry suckers - but I'm looking out for me on this one!

  4. Probably. Have you ever worked for a company whose mission statement was:

" We don't want to pressure our potential customers here at ________ Corp. We beleive that if we just put our product on the shelf, that those who like and desire our product will find it. We feel that we don't need to rely on adviretisements to make aware to the unassuming public that our product exists and is out there for their use.

We will simply rely on good natured capitalism to carry our company."

I'd quit if my company put this out. This is a suicide letter if I ever saw one. The point is, Tobacco companies probably are sneaky and underhanded, but so is the automobile industry - which kills thousands a year, the fast food industry - which kills thousands a year, the pharmacutical industry - which kills thousands a year, the petro-chemical industry - which kills thousands a year, the alcohol industry - which thousands a year, the snack food industry - which kills thousands a year, and on and on and on.

I guess if we wanted to be truely fair, the only commercials allowed should be to advocate not using a product. Now how retarded would that be?

  5. And not to argue, but just to clarify, do you believe EVERY rich person is going to hell, or just that Dollar dude with da Rolls Royces, and why?

This is the point you've been missing. I don't think rich people are going to hell. I however think that those who choose to live a life for God, yet still worship their money will go to hell.

Mr. "If I don't make Dollars then it don't make sense" is going straight to hell from what you've told me. Why? Because he's made the choice to lead others to God here on Earth. He either made that choice by one of two reasons: he felt like God asked/told him to, or he just thought he could get by/make money by doing so.

If he's doing what he thinks God has asked/told him to do - then he's definately going to hell because theres no way the God Christianity would advocate driving a 150k car when a 30k car will do just fine. The other 120k could go to any community type organization to help the community and spread God's word of peace and good will towards all. But is he doing that? Nope.

If he got into preaching for the wrong reasons, and this is where he's ended up - then again, he's going to hell. He's blastphomous in the face of God driving a 150k car. Why? Because the same reason I listed above applies here.

Now look - I'm not a very spiritual man - and on some days I'm not spritual at all - but common sense is common sense. Based on everything I've ever read & heard told about Jesus, is that he was a very humble man. Humility is not found in a Rolls Royce.

By chosing to represent God here on earth, you have to be prepared to sacrifice all to show God's love. Do you think Dollar Bill going to sell either of those Rolls Royces?

So in conclusion - rich doesn't equal hell. Greed does however.

  6. I hate Truth commercials. Some free society we live in when Tobacco manufacturers can't advertise on anything anymore but billboards and magazines, but we get to watch commercials every hour of the day on every channel about how evil the Tobacco companies are and how smoking kills you.

I've never been cornered by a Tobacco exec, and told I better smoke his cigarettes if I knew what was good for me. My point: people choose to smoke and I chose not too, BEFORE there were any tobacco lawsuits, truth commercials, or bans on adviretisements.

Thats only one of my beefs.. more to follow..

  7. Thank You Rescare.

DJ - you've totally missed my point. I HAVE been arguing the morality this whole time, not the legality.

My point remains - I'll never trust a man who tells me to put God first and give all that I have in his name, only to see him not do the same. I'm no scholar, but I'll bet my pension that Mr. Dollar and his 2 Rolls Royces are NOT getting into heaven.

As for the legality of it all, I don't mind churches being tax exempt - but I think we need better tax laws to limit their exemptions.

  8. Okay... lets get this straight:

Couture is not a type of store - its a type of style. Couture is 90% going to be Boutique. Here in Houston however, we have most of our Couture Boutique stores in the Galleria. I guess it really is too hot in Houston.

Designer is also not a type of store, but rather a type of style. Designer is found in upscale stores.

    So..

    Boutique = Couture

    Upscale = Designer

  9. There seem to be enough posts about the Galleria to warrant a "Houston Shopping" topic.  I'm not stereotyping.  I know that's about the only thing on this board my wife would be interested in.

The funny thing is that most of those posts about the Galleria, Town & Country, Rice Village, Uptown Park, and Memorial City Mall have been made by men!
