Ding-dong the witch is dead - now lets bury this delicate flower and clear our head..
-
Sadly, you get what you pay for. I read recently that big business is starting to veer away from the "our customer is always right" policy.
Yay for the little guy right?

I chose Glenbrook Valley for many of the reasons of rps.
..The minute I saw the mid-century house I bought, I fell in love with it. I was so unlike anything I had seen but had everything I wanted. I've been there almost 4 years now. I'm right on Santa Elena.
Give it to me straight. How does it compare to the Heights. I'm talking grocery shopping, resturant dining, everyday living comparison.
RPS/Danax - your thoughts?

..This will be Houston's Rodeo Drive, 5th Ave, Etc.
I don't know.. I can't help but think of Highland Village or River Oaks Shopping Center when you mention Rodeo Drive.
As for 5th Avenue.. Maybe if the Pavillions are built downtown, then we'd have something to compare with - even though it wouldn't even compare in the first place!

I would love to see, hear, or read debates on hot topics here in HAIF. Ricco talked about a podcast in another thread. Is this something that could become a reality?
No arguing, just debate.
-
If you're a minority, watch out about Barbeque Inn, they tend to shun minority customers.
Which minority groups though? I could see them being overly cautious of certain people considering that the ghetto has swallowed that neighborhood in the last 30 years.
-
Glenbrook has its gems - and Santa Elena is one of a few streets that has them. Good Luck. As for being outside the loop - who the ____ really cares? I know I don't.

You meant AMC Studio 30, the one with the families...
Anyways, I wonder if Pearland will get an AMC considering that it is expanding like crazy...
I'm not so sure if AMC would want to build another theater in Sugar Land now that is has Loews Fountains...
Ummm, no - I meant the AMC around Fry or Mason. I said earlier in the thread that I go to AMC 30 at Dunvale, and notice nothing but families & couples.
Loews Stafford aside, I don't know why AMC would build another theater in Sugarland anyway. Where would they build it and who would it serve?
-
I meant the AMC around Mason.. or is it Fry? One of those two. Anyway, Tinseltown Westchase is the closest theater for most of Alief, some of West-Sharpstown, Mission Bend, and a few other low-income/high-crime neighborhoods.
-
Does the state of the Tinseltown in Westchase have anything to do with the state of Alief?
Considering that the only movie theaters for the kids of Alief & Mission Bend are Tinseltown Westchase, AMC Cinco Ranch, and AMC First Colony - then maybe the answer is yes.
Its a sad state considering how nice Westchase is, to have such a crummy movie theater. I would have to blame the management on this one.
-
Great post RPS. I think every bit of its true, especially line about wanting to living in the city when you retire, but in the suburbs with kids.
-
As one of the others mentioned, there is a lot of drug activity going on in the parking lot at the Westchase Tinseltown. I've also sat on a seat in that theater once that was damp. When I stood up to move over I realized that it was not damp from a spilled drink like I had originally thought, but damp from urine. When I realized the seat felt damp I touched it with my hand and then the smell hit me. I got up and immediately headed to the bathroom to scrub my hands, totally disgusted. And even if I had not had that experience, every time I ever went there the place was overrun with wild kids.
I can attest (sp?) to your post. I've told my wife the few times we went that the place smelled like piss & burnt popcorn. As for the drug dealing, I've never noticed it, but there are nothing but kids out front all the time.
Suprisingly, there are nothing but families & couples at the AMC 30 on Dunvale, where we go most of the time now.

Vain attempts to start a flame-war and pointlessly shut down another thread sucks more than Dallas and Houston combined. Let the grown-ups talk, mkay?
Ha! This is coming from someone arguing about where Air India is going to land. I have to ask though, unless you're Indian, fly to India, or work for either Airport or any of their subsidiaries, then why would you care??
Who cares where they land?

Dallas sucks! Metroplex sucks! Fort Worth is cool..
(Vain attempt to start a flame-war and pointlessly shut down another thread..)

Yeah at the McDonald's I work at we have a redbox kiosk outside, it's pretty popular.
Congrats Talbot - you're now 1 in 4 Americans. How you ask? Simple: it's estimated that 1 in 4 Americans will work at a McDonalds in their lifetime.
Neat stuff huh? Check this book out, and then watch this movie: Fast Food Nation, Supersize Me.
I'll see you at McDonalds..

This feels like spam.. what gives with the free advertisement for the largest purchaser of potatoes in the U.S.?
-
Ummm, I had assumed that you were already in Houston. Where do you currently live?
-
What are you wondering about it - if that maybe they'll be expanding it soon?
-
Urban sprawl will continue, theres really nothing to stop it.
-
Is it just me, or do Saturdays just suck here in the forum? Of course I could just ask myself why I'm on an architecture forum at 11pm on a Saturday night.
-
You know that we're going to serve as the red-neck, right-wing, white-trash half of the swap. Yay.. first MTV Real World: Austin, and now this.

I didn't so much choose the neighborhood as the space, though the neighborhood reminds me of the meatpacking district of NYC as it was in the early 90s before gentrification set in.
Which Houston neighborhood are you referring to?
-
I've stayed at the W New Orleans. You're right, it is very nice, hip, and quite swank. Along with being all those things, it was quite expensive - around 200 bucks a night (after tax).
I'm too lazy to post all the pics from my last trip in the right thread - so here are a few..
We caught COPS, the tv reality show, filming with NOPD. The last pic is of the crew getting a waiver from the suspect - aka: Mr. Chronically Homeless.
Subdivisions Map?
in Houston Real Estate
Posted
Or you can try to drive through larger subdivisions in your free time, thats usually when you'll find the smaller neighborhoods.
Don't feel too bad, I get frustrated too when people talk about their neighborhood that I've never heard of.
