  1. You know, I was out in LA last year and I said something about the Katy Freeway, and the person I was talking to got an even more confused look on their face than they normally had. Then, when I said feeder, they thought I was speaking Russian.
  2. Parking sucks the closer to the center of the city you get, however, there are still lots of places you can park for free that are close to the rail, yeah, it'll cost to ride, but it is cheaper than parking in their garage. I recently went through the ground floor, and it seems that at least for the ground floor they are filling up the space well.
  3. What about 'warehouse district'? or, since everyone likes to shorten these names to 2 syllable, 4 letter words, "WaDi" pronounced, "Wah-Dih"
  4. Thanks! I rode by there yesterday and saw it, no wonder I missed it, it really is easy to not see. I didn't see a bike rack though, I guess I'll have to go there in my car first, and recommend a bike rack..
  5. I was driving down Pierce and when I was around the area they make their beds (Jeffersonish) I couldn't help but notice how dirty the area is. It is disgusting. It seemed worse than normal. Someone needs to contact the people that hand out the food and let them know that it is nice and all that they feed these people, but maybe they should clean the area for everyone as well. If I were a pedestrian, or on my bike, I would want to have a block or two cushion between myself and that.
  6. Maybe I'm just blind, but I ride by there about 3x a week on my bike, and I haven't seen it. what corner is it on?
  7. sorry to have offended you. Personally, when I am hiring someone, the college they went to is the last thing I look at. Whether it says UHD, HMU, UH, Harvard, I don't care. At the end of the day, I am interested in a persons ability to learn. And to top it all off, I actually have hired people who have gone to devry, UHD and UH. I guess I'm just not that sensitive to the name of a place that people go to for their higher education, a person is only going to get out of it what they put in to it anyway, that is true no matter what the name of the place is.
  8. Is it too late to say that I want the name of this school to be named "Sentral Houston Institute of Technology"..... Someone needs to tell the people who feel that they are going to lose the prestige involved with UH by having the school change its name, at least it doesn't say 'devry'
  9. If I'm thinking of the right place, one of the unique aspects of this space, to me, is the integration of the floors of whatever buildings used to sit there in the walkway. I don't particularly care how this space is updated, but I hope that they can retain this unique feature of this greenspace!
  10. If they put a parking meter in front of my house, I'd go cool hand luke on it.
  11. So does the Galleria Area, and if you overlay the two, they are damn near identical. If Houston Pavilions came prior to Downtown, and the name of the area was considered by one and all to be Houston Pavilions Area, then yeah, Houston Pavilions Area it is. Eventually, the warehouse district won't have anymore warehouses in it, but will that mean it will be thought of as EaDo by people who have been in Houston forever? I'll laugh secretly whenever anyone uses that name, and I suppose people will look at me like a crazy person when I say warehouse district. You can find hundreds of examples to use. At the end of the day though, money will win out, it will be called Uptown, and EaDo, and whatever other nifty names some marketing person comes up with that has nothing to do with what has to do with anything. And I guess that the other prepositional options that come with up and down (left and right) they don't have the same ring. Lefttown, or Righttown, neither of them really work. But then niether does Uptown. Gone are the days when a contest is held to name something like the Gulf Freeway, but then, I guess if they held a contest to name the Galleria area, people probably would have submitted "Galleria Area".
  12. That really is a shame. On a side note, there ought to be a law against littering...
  13. I utilize the part north of Leeland for getting into town. I wish there were better maps of this trail, and of the rail line that will go down scott. It looks like the rail will go alongside this trail for a short period, and I would really like to see how it will be affected, but I guess I will just have to use it, watch the unfolding of the build and then wait for the exciting conclusion!
  14. Basically, attempted robbery/shooting at around 8pm in Terry Hershey, near Eldridge and I-10. http://www.khou.com/news/local/stories/kho...g.b2d4557c.html
  15. Heh, if you said it was worse that that particular stretch of trail, I would be impressed, but since it is hard to have a trail worse than the stretch along buffalo bayou between sabine street and shepherd, I can only assume is doesn't completely look like it has been abandoned of any maintenance for the past 20 years. I used to use the trail in terry hershey as a standard for safety and decided that once some of the trails in the east end were at that level that I would start riding them. But after what happened last week, I guess I'm as safe anywhere. So, I just ride on the streets!
  16. Those people were just cardboard cutouts, using clever ILM techniques they are made to look as though they are real and enjoying themselves. I hope that the HP doesn't turn into T&C v2.0 seeing as that was opened in the midst of a great recession as well, but since there isn't another mall within 10 miles, (or worse less than a mile away with better access) it may work out better.
  17. There was a woman shot/killed and had her new caddy stolen not too long ago, it was daytime. And shock and horror, it was in Pearland as she was leaving work. Guess we can't live there either. Not to be too morbid about the situation, but as it goes, I'd rather live where a thief is bad enough where he tries to kill someone for their car, but fails on both accounts, not to mention where he isn't confident enough to try in the middle of the day, even if he injured the owner and then banged up the car. That is a much better outcome than death. Anyway, as others have said, it can and does happen anywhere.
