  1. If an opinion of which scenario is what you're looking for, then for sure I would say a cluster of cranes just because it makes it seem more like a boom of new construction and the city growing and all that. Like, "Welcome to Houston... Recession? What Recession?" Although the difference in the Med Center and Downtown may be nothing more than coincidence, Downtown is having projects starting at different times, where as the Med Center had a boom of new buildings all at once. I don't think it was by choice, but that assumption would need further verified to be either confirmed or debunked. I simply don't know if it was planned like that.
  2. He wants to make everything free and equal?? Damn Him!! And saying he is being controlled by a bigger force sounds so much like a bogus conspiracy theory, it isn't even funny. Get back to us when you have something concrete on this ok. If you lived back in the mid 30s, when FDR was bringing in programs like Social Security, the FDIC, and the rest of the New Deal, would you have branded him a socialist? Different times, yes, but similar situations in general: a country in economic turmoil, and a Government interjecting to provide a fix. Like the chart barracuda posted, the amount of nationalization going on is minuscule at best. Marsksmu, believe it or not I enjoy your posts. As someone who generally leans to the left it is interesting to see what those on the far right are thinking. However it would help your case a lot to not get swept away by right wing propaganda. Those who fought and died would probably be happy that we are still a country that can vote in free democratic elections, and when the country as a whole makes a mistake to learn form that. Personally I feel like this last election results were just that, going a full 180 degree turn from the electing of and mistakes of the Bush Presidency. Thou I will give you the alternate choices of Gore and Kerry weren't that great either.
  3. Probably leaving it how it is would be much simpler and if anyone asks we can all tell them why it is Haif. I more agree with Pumapayam, I call it Haif based more on that rather than it being a .info site. I would like to make a donation, but can't right now. Will you still accept a donation in 2 months that can go for something else?
  4. Personally I just call them all by number only. 59, 45, 610, etc And I'll add N or S depending on which direction I'm going, and the 610 part I will say North, West, South... It was funny for me being out west in Arizona and California, cause every freeway was a number with "The" in front of it. "The 60", "The 101", "The 5", "The 8" etc you get the picture.
  5. Before this thread started I saw you were at 10,033 or so, and I was going to totally say something... but got distracted by something shiny. So what comes next? 100,000 posts? Could you imagine....
  6. Personally I would rather have a Texas Drivers License... rather than An Austin Drivers License. The background could have been more appeasing to the rest of the state. But in the end it is what it is, and as long as it serves it function, I don't care.
  7. I also want to extend my condolences, and hope a reason for this flight going down so abruptly is found so that there is closure. I heard it may be weather related? And that the aircraft sent two automatic transmissions before vanishing. The last one being electrical failure and loss of cabin pressure. This is a concern as I am going to fly across the Atlantic and back, in July.
  8. No, Rweil is right, they are doing some interior remodels on that particular existing Kroger, directly across from the new HEB going up on Buffalo Speedway near Westpark. I didn't know they were working at night. Thought they doing everything behind the temporary walls they put in place inside the store, and in the daytime. If they have a permit, I'm sure there's nothing on it expressing what hours they can work and which they can't. Maybe file a complaint at the Code Enforcement building? On a side note I will try to snap some photos of this, its quite an interesting design. I find it ironic that all of HEBs commercials are about how much you can save over Kroger and now they build a new one right smack across from them. I for one am glad. It is a hassle during peak times to find parking in that Kroger shopping center, and if I can save more at HEB over Kroger even with the Plus Card, then hell yea. The closest HEB to me till now was more of a drive than I wanted to make just for groceries.
  9. I think Red was just messing with you FilioScotia... not the first time I've seen him do that. I'm on to you RedScare! I don't watch KHOU much except flipping through on bad weather days. I do know Fox 26 mentions the changeover date quite often as well, during commercials and rarely with a ticker scrolling across the bottom of the screen during some programs. But, to the sub-topic of the original topic at hand: IF they delay it again, they may as well forget it. Feels like this is a nation where you can get whatever you want stopped or delayed if you complain enough. Another delay will just lead to another for the same reasons. I didn't understand the first delay... if you're too poor to get a digital converter box, then you're pretty bad off. I think the big deal was running out of coupons for converter boxes and it not being "fair" to those who were not able to get any. You know... got to keep it fair for those who wait till the last minute. Anything people need they will find the money for... if you need to get your car fixed, you will find the money, if you need to pay your mortgage you will find the money... and if you need a box to keep your TV you will find the money to get it. But TV is a luxury item anyways. Its not needed to survive. E-mail and internet access however is and that's why they need those frequencies for Super Wi-fi!!
  10. In the tub no less. At least they weren't pictured in the tub together It makes u wonder what the future brings for landmarks that are thriving today... will the entire city of Dubai be a rotting abandoned wasteland one day? Vegas even? Or imagine the day when they replace Minute Maid Park, Reliant Stadium and Toyota Center, and the former are either imploded or left to wonder what to do with like the Astrodome... Those links remind me of that show Life After People... except we're still here...
  11. Yea, Superheros never reveal their true identities Indeed there would be a lot of exposure for members who do participate... unfortunate. In my field about the only networking is the Hotel Motel Engineering Association and I don't attend those meetings because they turn into places for salesmen to pitch their new products I don't need, and members have to pay dues. I guess as a whole Haif is not the place, but still, I figured why not pitch the idea, never know.
  12. IronTiger, don't mean to nitpick, but presently you have me down as Geoff9201, not Geoff8201... I don't mind... 9201 would be interesting... the 82 is my birth year and the 01 is my graduation from High School year, nothing really spectacular... be awesome if I graduated HS at age 8, almost 9, and am presently 16... Alas the big 27 is a few weeks away.
  13. So I live in Upper Kirby... If Greenway area was an option I woulda checked that... closest I could come is checking Galleria.
  14. I was thinking one thing HAIF is missing is a place where members can discuss their specific careers and network based on those fields. My idea was an addition of an Off-Topic Subforum where members can post their particular field and discuss their day to day jobs, network, and provide feedback on each other. For example, my position is a Head Engineer in a hi-rise building. I'm licensed as a 1st Grade Stationary Engineer from COH, so it would be interesting to meet other stationary engineers who work in Hi-rises, Hotel, office buildings and hospitals, as well as those who do construction, electrical, and plumbing work in these areas. It would also be benificial in my case to talk to others in the same boat I am... such as Hurricane Prepardness in tall buildings, Mandated Sprinkler Updates, cost cutting ideas, interior design input, etc. I haven't seen anything else that comes close on here other than it happening coincidentally in other topic discussions. What's everyone think?
  15. How could anyone forget the guy with the Y SO SRS Avatar?? Not a bad idea... as long as you can keep editing it and adding to your post. Now the real challenge would be making a list of all the members who have been inactive for a while.
  16. There isn't. And stop calling me Shirley. Also looks from the top view like they're trying to spell something out... I see strange E's an O, a U... some other deformed letters I cant really put my finger on...
  17. I took a walk down to Kirby and got a few current shots of whats going on with the progress on building 3. Most of it has the protective netting on there so I got what I could. Its been a while since we've had an exterior update. They are what they are. And walking by it was nice to see people chillin on their balconies and another resident walking their dog. Signs of life! I'm anxious for the opening of the retail sections... just a few more months to go.
  18. Omg Hilarious! And eye catching they are, especially driving across the I-45 bridge to Galveston Island... and more stable in high winds. Yes. Good reasons. I was wondering if there was some deeper reason... something symbolic happening... other than an Illuminati conspiracy If eye catching and beneficial for a hurricane force wind are the reasons; those are pretty acceptable. It's always interesting why designers chose the pyramid shape... like the Luxor in Las Vegas. But I'm sure that hotel was all about catching the attention of visitors...?
  19. Pretty straight up architecture question. Why did they chose Pyramids for Moody Gardens Aquarium, Discovery and Rainforest as opposed to regular buildings or something else? Curious question.
  20. This is indeed sad. From what I've heard on the news a generator burst into flames, and the warehouse workers were able to put it out, or so they thought... the flames came back and were more than could be fought with fire extinguishers. Currently a 4 alarm blaze now. So far the warehouse is a complete loss but the showroom isn't burning... but I'm sure there is massive smoke damage
  21. M guess as well. Take into consideration that Mainplace has a much larger footprint, and a combined garage element (sloping floors integration of foot traffic patterns and vertical transportations for both elements), and has just gotten to the point recently where the concrete structural buildout is a repetitive floorplan, where as Discovery Tower has been a repetitive floor plan all along. And great night photos as well. I could see these framed, hanging in the common areas of Discovery Tower... never know... keep up with the artsy, it works.
  22. So, wow. The end comes to a very good season! Way to leave it on a cliffhanger about Jack and Rene. I think we all know how the Jack's situation turns out, but the fate of Rene, Tony, President Taylor, and the character Will Patton plays (forgot his character's name) are all up in the air as far as where season 8 goes with it. 24 is by no means done, and they almost had me believing this season would end in a silent clock. Overall this season is one of the best and I'm glad it didn't drone on like ending of season 5 and how most of 6 did. I'm glad 24 continues on... on an off topic side note I watched the series finale of Prison Break and it had a good ending as well. I'm glad that show wrapped up. Everyone got the ending they deserved except Michael unfortunately.
  23. Omg, a Buffalo Wild Wings?? I hope they're not teasing. This would be even closer to me than the one on Rice in the Village is! I think I found my new hangout if they do lease it. Hopefully parking will be less of a headache than it is in the Village too.
  24. Your frustrations are noted, however, the main reason I jumped in was because there are a lot of Guests who see these new projects going up, and in searching for information about them they find their way to these forums. Many of them see replies worded such as yours and rethink any prior thoughts about joining the forum. We lose potential contributing members, as well as develop a reputation as not being a friendly forum. Whether you don't care or do, That's the other moral of the story. And in referring to Hess as the buildings owner was a brain flub on my part. I meant the leasing tenant of the building. I think our points are made and this thread can get back on topic. If you want the last word on the matter you can have it.
