  1. I think all of the talk was about the new convention center ground breaking this morning for the Marriot Marquis.
  2. Once they got going they really picked up the tempo on this demo. They weren't too far off on the time it would take.
  3. You can also add Mid main and Match to that lists of projects to be started in the near future. Both of these projects are being built because of the rail. Along with all of the other exciting things that have happened in Midtown I really think the skid row comment was a little out of line. Also concerning the rail and for whatever reason people choose to ride, which I do when possible, it is one of the most heavily used rail lines in America on a rider per mile ratio.
  4. Thanks thats what I thought. isn't that the lot that either has or had the old log cabin on it.
  5. Never the less it is sad to see such a disappointing building on the edge of Discovery Green. Hopefully someone does come along soon and develop the other part of the block. Its efforts like this design by developers like these that makes me long for aesthetics police.
  6. So is this addition going up on the block just east of Herman Hospital on Cambridge between Ben Taub, facing Herman park or will this front the Fannin side?
  7. I'm not sure I understand labeling whats going on in Midtown skid row. It did take a while for development along the rail line but lets face it when land owners along the rail got wind of the rail they jacked their prices up and then we got hit with the recession. There is plenty of progress being made along the rail from downtown through midtown and now in the southern parts. I have noticed signs along the northern extension and some new development already starting to fill some of those spaces.
  8. Thanks, I had missed that image. I think the glass rails will look really nice. I just hope they have the issue solved that plagued the W in Austin with the glass rails. I also like the treatment of the overlapping layer look on the corner.
  9. great graphics. It makes it so much easier to see the impact of all of the proposed and u.c. projects. Thanks for the time it took to put those together.
  10. Triton thanks for the images and all of the information. Looks like it will be a nice project and hopefully this will get built.
  11. So swtsig or aarosurf is the grey color of the exterior walls the final color of the building or an undercoat?
  12. This is a little off topic but pertains to Upper Kirby. This sculpture by James Surls was installed Sunday It reaches 38 feet high. Great addition to the neighborhood and excited to have another Surls in Houston.
  13. I always enjoy seeing a side of a building or a view that has been obstructed for a long time when a structure is removed. I thought that when macey's/foleys was brought down some interesting new angles and views were revealed. Not that I necessarily like the old buildings brought down but it gives a whole new feel to an area and creates new sight lines.
  14. Thanks, I can always count on you for good information without the sarcasm.
  15. I wish they were talking about the university line. I also didn't like the tone of Ed Emmett and Steve Raddack about Houston First and the convention bureau. Those two should just spend their time working on the dome and commuter trains from the burbs.
  16. You have a very good point. I imagine a lot of these projects are having trouble finding enough skilled labor for all of them to get going at the same time. So many went to other locations or industries. I bet its the same with home builders.
  17. Urbanizer since you seem to have a handle on this project do you think they were just floating this as a project or is it a real project that has just been delayed. You'd think they would want to get this built in time for the superbowl and maybe the final four. Have you got a feel for this. We really need the rooms downtown to make the convention center competitive with others.
  18. People coming to Houston for the superbowl that haven't been here in a while are going to first wonder if they are in Houston and then be blown away. It seems like every segment of the inner city is getting an overhaul. Great synergy here right now. I hope it continues.
  19. This will also allow us to see the Marriot Marquis Convention center, HSPVA, the 28 story proposed in front of the Fingers apts., the pair of hotels Hampton and Hyatt, going up on the same block along with Houston Center 6. This will be a fun cam to watch. I got word from a great source that April 11th they would be breaking ground on the Convention Center Hotel. Also we will see the Historic museum project that John Nau is proposing/ funding, just south of Minute Maid. This will be a very busy quadrant.
  20. Hare is a new image I took yesterday of the brickwork going on the Muse. This project looks so much more substantial than the Richmond Dunleavy phase two going up right now.
  21. Actually this new tower is going up two blocks north of Calpine. The Hogg lofts are between it and this project. Hines tower will be two blocks east of Calpine and one block north across from the proposed and probably not constructed stream Essex tower, on the site just north of the Houston Chronicle. I know this area pretty well since I used to run Cabos.
  22. This is an interesting solution and I think it fits into the neighborhood nicely. I met the developer two years ago when they first tore down the house across the street from where I was living. We moved over to our current Menil park location and forgot all aout this guys plans. He promised me then that this was going to be a nice looking project and not your run of the mill strip centers. I believe he's a doctor. The east end of this project actually stops just even with the western end of the Menil parking lot which is supposed to be reconstructed starting possibly next week. That new lot is going to be a very nice entrance into the Menil campus with great landscaping.
