  1. The problem with a pool on the SE corner is that it will be in the shade when everyone wants to sit out and get some sun in the afternoon. It should have gone on the southwest corner which is where the sun will be in the afternoons. I'm not to concerned but if they had been thinking thats how they should have oriented the pool. I'm just glad to see the building going up.
  2. So if I'm reading the rendering correctly this will not be directly on Montrose but behind the Chelsea mixed use development where Dantons is. This will be to the East of that center? Is this correct, and yes it does appear to show the pool on the southeast corner on the ground floor. Not above the garage. So its not next to the Museum towers but a little northeast of that building. It will definitely add to the cluster of museum/ Herman park/ lower midtown, highrises along with the addition of the Southmore by Hines on Caroline and the Hanover Montrose tower. I'm not even including the 42 story on and off twisting tower planned for Herman drive. This will really start to fill in the area between the med center and downtown. Now when they start adding a few towers in Midtown that have been talked about the gaps will start going away between D.T. and the Med center. Pretty exciting.
  3. I'm sure most of you have seen or heard about this but here is a link to a construction project in China. Its a 30 story hotel erected and complete in 15 days. I know its off topic but since people are always complaining about the slow pace of construction on different jobs I thought this would be entertaining to watch. https://www.youtube.com/embed/GVUsIlwWWM8?rel=0
  4. In the big picture this is a small matter. We should all be excited to see the two parking lots actually doing something positive for that side of town. I used to live in the Wagon works building on the corner of Crawford and Franklin and I can tell you it was pretty vacant over there. Now the tipping point is about to occur with this project and the three hotels about to break ground and HSPVA over there between Minute Maid and the Convention center, and people will be walking around the area maybe some service related shops will start considering development and more units will join them, and besides, not that many people spend time on the surface streets to even be aware that you can see the ball park from Main street. Everyone spends all of their time in the tunnels which I think sucks. It never looks like anyone's downtown. Its a shame more downtown workers don't spend more time on the sidewalks.
  5. Urbannizer you beat me to the list. Yours was more thorough. Sorry for the redundancy.
  6. Add to your list the Southmore residential high rise by Hines on Caroline and Southmore The two twelve story hotels near the new Marquis to go up next to convention center downtown Hines Market Square high rise Herman Park twisted high rise The Sovereign high rise on West Grey The Southampton residential by Hanover 12 stories in the Village under construction now Hanover High rise going up behind the new Whole Foods on Post Oak Apache next door Hyatt Regency Galleria Skanska old Maceys site and a few others that might will break ground
  7. This is a renovation and a garage. Most of the work on the building will occur on the inside so it wont ever look like a major construction site from the front side. I hope it goes well and they decide to build the high rise on the back side. Those renderings looked good.
  8. What happened to the plan to move the bus terminal? I remember reading somewhere that there was a plan in the works to relocate it. We lived for seven years in the old Wagon Yard project, at the same time they built Minute Maid. from 1997 until 2004 when we were all evicted by the fire marshall. Just around the corner was the Star of Hope and several other food drops. Some had even built a small tent city under the Elysian viaduct. We had street people in the area all the time and never was bothered or even approached. When people who live in the burbs start talking about the violence in the midtown and downtown areas, I have to laugh. Just watch the news any night and you'll see that most of the serious crime; murder, rapes, assaults, drive by shootings and break ins occur in the burbs. Remember that those people left the central city (white flight) to get away from the "Crime", and moved out to the burbs. Let them keep thinking that way. It makes it a lot easier to enjoy all of the wonderful things they have to drive back in to take advantage of. Washington Ave. wasn't much better not that many years ago. It will happen and it will happen fast since Midtown has reached the tipping point. And next will be the third ward.
  9. Smart marketing on Exxons part. Build subdivision way out in the boonies and make people use more gas to get downtown.
  10. Speaking of this area what happened to the Wetheimer + Montrose strip center where Half price Books and Specs holds down the whole center. What ever happened to the purchase. Wasn't someone talking about redeveloping that major piece of property into a West Ave. type mixed use project? Maybe with the news of this Hanover project it will spur on the other development. Does anyone know any more about that. Thanks! Hanover has really jumped in feet first. The Galleria area, two projects in the village and now this, besides a few more I know I'm leaving out..
  11. Just can't get to excited about this project. The renderings make it look very second rate.
  12. It is nice but the downtown view will also have Greenway Plaza and the med center. Not to mention everything going up in between.
  13. Skyline view thanks for the updates. When you realize that in about two years the Astoria, the Billiton, the Apache Tower, the Hanover and the Post Oak Gables will all be added to this part of Uptown and with the addition of the proposed highrise on post oak near the Ziegler Cooper Highrises in the north end of the area, the skyline will run continuous from Woodway to 59 without much of a gap. Thats pretty amazing. Cant wait to see it.
  14. I thought he might be able to come up with something for the cistern also. That's a space I would like to see in person.
  15. Very well said! There's so much going on here it's almost hard getting around to see it all. And most of the projects are just starting. Visitors that come back for the next Super Bowl aren't going to recognize the place. They've started to reconstruct the entrance to Herman Park , and build the new gardens. So many game changers all at once. Add in Buffalo Bayou and the Kinder Donation, major additions to the museum district, and Hobby Airport. Not bad!
  16. It seemed I read where a group owned the building and were going to redevelop into residential or a hotel.' There was talk of it becoming a park but now this group has stepped forward.
  17. Sorry! I hope you realize what I meant. SkyHouse.
  18. Chevron Tower Hines 609 Main Marriot Marquis Skanksa Hines Market Square residential Sky Terrace Two twelve story hotels near convention center Lots of cranes and construction downtown, and this is just the confirmed projects.
