Weston Medical Center should be cheaper housing considering it's garden-style apartments. Renters probably get a good deal since it's not 5 stories and flooded with amenities. I was wondering if anyone knew the architect for the campus of the Corpus Christi Catholic School & Church. The church has an address of 9900 Stella Link Road. The school has an address of 4005 Cheena Drive. I often see this listed as "Corpus Christi School" on old 1950s/1960s maps. The buildings have been around for a while. As with movie theaters and other public spaces, the COVID-19 pandemic hit churches hard. I know of a few churches that have recently been sold. The Corpus Christi Catholic School & Church has a huge campus in the middle of a residential neighborhood. I wonder if they would ever sell their property? I could see a massive garden-style apartment complex on this site. Or maybe a mixture of multifamily, retail, and a park. Not expecting anything luxury. I don't foresee your typical 4 to 6 story multifamily wrap here. If they did sell some of their property I'd imagine they would get rid of the soccer field first. There is literally 4 soccer fields directly across the street. Came across this rare Kenneth Franzheim proposal for the Houston Independent School District Administration/Board of Education building. I wonder where this was supposed to go? This was in the 1950s, or maybe even in the 1960s. Love the drawing of the car!! Reminds me of an animated movie.

I was browsing the newspaper The Bellaire Texan dated November 1, 1961 and came across this business advertisement for Fountain of Youth Car Bath & Auto Clinic located at 11221 South Post Oak Road near South Main Street. Does anyone ever take their car here for service or a car wash? Looking on Google Maps, there is a car repair shop at the current location. I'm sure the building has changed ownership half a dozen times since 1961. Or, I wonder, if this is the same family ownership after all these decades? Maybe the son of the owner runs it now? Finally researched this massive sports complex. Looks like it has gone through a few transformations and is now jointly-owned. The 75 acre (now 55 acre) sports field was developed by the Stella Link Redevelopment Authority. https://southcampus-under-construction.squarespace.com/history In 1998, a number of local families personally guaranteed a bank loan so that SLRA could purchase 75 acres of land just east of Stella Link Boulevard, just south of the 610 South Loop. South Campus was born. The complex is also located off of South Main Street (Highway 90.) Using the McGovern Campus Park as a model, SLRA sold 12 acres at the northwest corner of the original South Campus tract to a group that founded and built the Emery Weiner School. At the other end of the tract, a smaller portion of the land was sold for the development of the St. Catherine’s Montessori School. In 2003, the South Campus Sports Association was formed as a separate section 501(c)(3) organization by four area youth sports leagues—West University Little League, Braes Bayou Little League, West University Softball Association, and the Near Town Soccer Club—with the singular purpose of purchasing and developing the remaining acreage. I was reading the newspaper The Bellaire Texan dated February 27, 1957 and came across an article featuring the golf course. The Sharpstown Women’s Golf Association is co-operating with other women’s golf groups of the Houston area and with the Swing Club (a division of United Volunteers Services) in a drive to build a nine hole Pitch and Putt Golf Course at the Veterans Administration hospital in Houston at Holcombe and Almeda. Physical therapist state that such a course would be extremely helpful to veterans recuperating in the hospital, providing exercise and development of manual skills. To provide funds for the constriction of this golf course, women golfers of the Houston area are conducting a sale of tickets for a prize drawing, with all proceeds going to the Veterans’ course. On March 2, Mrs. Libby Allen and Mrs. C.D. Combs, representing the Sharpstown Women’s Golf Association, will appear at the golf links of the Sharpstown Country Club from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to sell tickets at $1.00 apiece. I just found out that small park located in the front of the Texas Women's Hospital Campus is actually a city-cited park called Fannin-Greenbriar Triangle located at 7898 Fannin Street. I thought it was just a small green space area belonging to the hospital. Didn't think it was an official city park. On January 3, 2023, the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Capital Projects approved the project name change to Clinical Services Building. Project Description: The proposed Clinical Services Building (CSB) will be a major addition to the existing U. T. M. D. Anderson Cancer Center campus at the Texas Medical Center (TMC) in Houston. The facility will be located at the northeast corner of the TMC Campus on the site where the recently demolished Dental Branch building was located. Expedited commercial review permit for the whopping 642,984 SF parking garage was pulled yesterday. I wonder if this will complete the Greenbriar/Braeswood campus? In due time, the single-story child care center will be demolished for something taller.

Here's an irrelevant, but interesting tidbit these '53 aerials show. I've mentioned to several friends my age that there was a race track in Stafford, roughly where the Southwest Freeway intersects with Highway 90A. They don't remember it. Well, it appears in the next photo. I barely remember it as a very dilapidated wooden structure with pealing white paint and (I think) black trim.
