  7. Question about one of the renderings released for the new UTHealth School of Public Health building. Does anyone else see an unnamed building that's ghosted to the right? What is this about? Could this be the proposed UTHealth Digital Innovation Tower?
  8. I got this idea from another HAIF member. I wonder the percentage of hotels sitting empty, and that are very active, in the TMC area? Unlike downtown, and other areas, I don't see the TMC hotels being converted into residential. I bet hotels in the TMC stay pretty full unlike areas of town. I know this is a given, but I wish the TMC would create a hotel skyscraper. 40 to 50 stories. I believe the proposed TMC Helix Park hotel is around 30 stories. Then again, people visiting the TMC might not want a luxury skyscraper hotel due to their medical cost.
  9. I came across this vintage menu and wondered if anyone has heard of this place? I believe it was active in the 1950s? It was an Italian restaurant located in the Museum District, close to Midtown called Collora's Restaurant located at 4728 Fannin Street.

  12. Very interest! I thought The Green Parrot was located in Riverside Terrace at 2314 Macgregor Way? I'm assuming the 1950s restaurant on Bell Ave. was an earlier version of the restaurant. Or perhaps Macgregor Way was originally, or at one point, called Bell Avenue? I'm not familiar with Vera Fredericks. The owner of the Riverside Terrace Green Parrot restaurant. This could be a different restaurant all together! Never heard of it, a very rare find!
  13. I was looking into the original Brochsteins building. It appears Brochsteins took over the building from another lumber company. Found this article in the newspaper Texas Jewish Herald dated May 14, 1936. The firm is located at 3400 Washington avenue, and is a leader in the Southwest in the designing and building of bank and office fixtures. They carry in stock eleven different varieties of solid woods as well as plywood and veneers for customers to select form. Their plant is one of the most modern and up-to-date in the Southwest. Mr. Brockstein stated today that he is as proud of the fixtures installed in the new Baytown bank as any his firm has been privileged to model. Brochsteins, Inc. Designers and Manufacturers Bank-Drug-Office-Store Fixtures-Distinctive Bars and Beer Equipment 3400 Washington Phone Taylor 1800 Spinner Lumber Company was previously, about 10 years earlier, located a 3400 Washington. Was this Brochsteins' first business venture? Did Brochstein bought the business and took over? Anyone know the story here? How could two different lumber companies occupy the same address/building? 17. I was browsing the newspaper The Houston Post. dated July 9, 1906 and came across an article about gas ranges. Houston Gas Co. located at 604 Main Street took 5,000 people who bought their gas ranges and published their home addresses. You wouldn't see something like this today! Very cool. I was wondering if HAIF has any information regarding this home from the early 1900s. Any Sanborn maps, or photos? I can only image it was a huge mansion? Fun fact, in the 1950s, Mr. Battelstein lived in Riverside Terrace at 2115 Wichita Street.
  18. Never knew about this! Some very cool, and hard to find, history here. I was browsing the newspaper The Houston Post. dated June 10, 1909 and came across this business advertisement for P. Battelstein & Co. located at 618 Main Street. This was before the infamous Battelstein's Department Store located at 812 Main Street. The Makers of Good Clothes P. Battelstein & Co. Up-To-Date Tailors 618 Main Street * Houston, Texas
  19. wow! I found a hidden Houston museum. Never heard of this one. Looking on opencorporates, this business was active in the late 1960s to early 1970s. 21. Is this the 400 year old Oak Tree and court house? There were many Harris County court houses and jails. I'm unfamiliar.
  22. On HAIF, there was a single blurb about this building from 15 years ago. Thought I would bring this topic to a fresh start and a dedicated thread. The armory and club was on top of Commercial National Bank building that is located on Franklin Street & Main Street. Here's a post card I found: Very cool! The original building is still standing. The building has been modified.
  23. I was looking for rare Alfred C. Finn buildings and found another one! The Coca-Cola Bottling Building located at 707 Live Oak Street. Built in the 1920s. The building has since been demolished. Cool history here!
  24. Any rumors about this building once the new facility gets built? Given the location, it would be sold (traded?) to MD Anderson to become an in-patient bed tower. This is near the North Campus. The building could remain standing for another 5 to 10 years. It will probably come down soon to make way for MDA advancements.
