  1. I have to agree about some Houstonians not having a sense of place and people getting the two campuses confused. I met someone the other day who thought (UH) Third Ward was located (UHD) downtown... they didn't get that there was a difference between TW and DT at all. I've also known a person who referred to Midtown as downtown. They were both transplants who figure anything near downtown IS downtown. I think the lack of a sense of place and not knowing the city is a downside to the growth Houston has seen. These people may work downtown or may not, but spend most of the time bypassing these neighborhoods on the freeways. On the contrary, the natives I know here have a great sense of place and history and know the city neighborhoods very well.

Those are still fair. I know a score people who think Med Center is downtown.

  2. I was in the study when I heard my daughter gave a shrieking yell upon seeing the H&R Block one-eyed-people ad. I only saw the last part but can't get it off my mind since last week. Now who will dash to H&R to go do their taxes after seeing that? Who approved it?

There is another one from Sprint (I think) with texting, talking thumbs made up of people's heads. Just creepy.

  3. When people get out of Memorial Hermann 2 blocks south, they will come to that complex, turn in their prescriptions and get a sandwich while their meds are being filled. Plus they will get all those little household stuff at CVS instead of making another trip to Target. I think.

  4. Judging by the quotes in the article, its obvious the regents are avid HAIF readers and were well aware of our dislike of the chosen name and the reasons why.

    Thank you regents.

At ths time I would like to submit Craig Biggio University for consideration.

Sure they do. But do they need more than common sense to see those flaws?

  5. As far as I'm concerned daily mail delivery is an overkill. Four times a week is okay. If you run a business and need mails daily, get a mailbox, or pay extra. Another thing, I will gladly pay a dollar for regular mail because it's worth that, and more. Lastly, communal mailbox has advantages ten times more than door delivery.

  6. I'm just curious, as I was in some rural areas of Texas last weekend. I haven't been around all parts of Harris County, but I'm just curious to know if there are any numbered county roads left in the area. Going down 288 into Brazoria County, you probably go less than 5 miles from the Houston City Limits before you come across your first numbered county road. But that's Brazoria county. I would think that Harris County is so urbanized by now that all roads have "real" names and all roads, maintained by either the counties or municipalities are now paved. Am I right in my assumption?

All of Brazoria county's roads are named now. They are all Airline-Ft Bend something, according to google maps. I will search for some official docs to confirm.

  7. I found myself at Westheimer and Kirkwood this morning and instead of going back to I-10 to do 80mph to 610, i decided to inspect this picture.

I don't know any setting or perspective that will naturally produce that photo. The photo'd been shrunk. But that stretch is also u-u-uglyyy. I did enjoyed the coasting though, catching no red light from Kirkwood until i veered right to W Alabama in the Galleria. Two bad things: my wife's navi system kept yelling at me to go use Westpark tollway and one woman that looks like sefvif's avatar left her pointer on, yapping on the phone and wonder why I flashed my headlights at her.

  8. I lived in Columbia for 10 years before moving to Houston in 1980. Once I was here all I heard was "Austin, Austin, that the happening city." Once I finally made it over there I was struck by the similarity of Columbia to Austin. State Capital, university city, military presence, similar population, and large recreational lakes close by. About the only thing Columbia did not have was a Michael Dell.

Looks a little like Houston too with that Sam Houston statue and 5 Houston Center building :lol:

  9. You're right, my bad. I had Alvin ISD on my mind.

I always liked Rodeo Palms..... I think the many changes on plans and slow sales on their "Upscale" area might have hurt a bit, but last time I was there right after Ike, things were looking better. I know for a fact that Meritage was being very aggressive about sales and there are very good deals.

In terms of all the new possible construction, I think the market exists, and probably will hurt a little ST, SCR, Rodeo Palms & Southfork, but in the long run, it'll be OK. Traffic will be a nightmare on 288, let's just hope it's expansion starts sooner than later.

Proximity to city center is helping Pearland a lot. I am starting to real signs of recession in the nabes, but that's still way better than the rest of the country. Nonetheless I still think Sedona Lakes' developer is either for another world, is high on something, mint his own money or I am too pessimistic about the economy.

600 acres in Alvin. They are working on the entrance and doing some work on the roads. I understand that my builder Coventry Homes will be there too on phase I.

I also found the following interesting new plan for the area including..... Mustang Creek, Southpointe Crossing, Shadow Creek States.

Sedona Lakes is in Manvel, not Alvin.

Maybe because Rodeo Palms has had problems, and some perceive it is withering on the vine?

    What problems has Rodeo Palms.
