  1. Great quality photos. Always appreciate the visual update.

This building doesn't look as bad as I thought it would in the finished product. Rather unusual with the crown on top, but not all bad.

This has become quite a marker of the I-10 near Beltway 8 area... I can see it all the way from my building located near the Greenway and Upper Kirby area.

That's exactly what MH leaders want it to be. They always talk about a landmark and a Medical center outside of Texas Medical Center.

  2. yes, haifers are different.

I've taken my wife to so many wonderful places around, she enjoys it a lot, but when I took her to DG and the skatepark on the opening days she asked me where exactly do I get my information. Now she love to read HAIF also, esp when arguments get heated up.

  3. Do a survey of the people you meet - at work, park, church etc. Ask about Fred Hartman Bridge, Washburn Tunnel, Elysian viaduct, Discovery Green, Houston Pavillions, Memorial Hermann Tower. See how many people know about these places. Some 40-yr old native Houstonian don't even know there are at least two airports in Houston! How dumb!

  4. Another illustration -- A HAIFer will wonder if the new strip center being built in the neighborhood will have a green roof and a traffic management plan. A non-HAIFer will wonder if there's going to be a Subway and a dry cleaner.

    :lol::lol:

    Sad, but true.

  5. All electronics store sucks when it come to customer service. You stand around for a long time looking for someone to help you, you get tossed around by associates who don't know what they're doing. Best Buy is just a quarter of an inch better than the rest of them. Just get the best bargain online and use free shipping or pick up in store if you're impatient.

By the way in an economy heading south, their line of business just have to suffer; new techy gadget's not life sustaining.

  6. I wish? Look at it now. Obama down to single-digits. Even Clinton only lost by less than five points in Texas. With all of the people from the Northwest and California moving to Texas, as well as Hispanic voters, it shouldn't be that big of a surprise.

Maybe. But I'll never bank on Texas if I am the candidate. Demographics change very slowly. So maybe in 12/16 years... And it means that those new voters will vote Democratic. Tough call there.

  7. I decided to not use the "real" title of the sone out of fear of offending anyone.

However, I am worried about the state of our union.

    Our freedom.

    Our future.

    Our lives.

It's all over soon - and I hope that someone, somewhere, is looking out for us.

Nothing, nobody can destroy our freedom, future, or lives. STOP SPREADING FEAR. What is all over? The election? Your candidate hasn't lost yet and you're coding! Go take a dose of HOPE, you need it.

  8. 1)the dog shouldn't be roaming on your property. as for maiming, i wouldn't think that would be allowed for scaring someone however a bb/pellet gun could be helpful in preventing 1. <_<

Honestly I feel bad saying that. I wish I can hurt the dog and the owner feel the pain. If I really wanted to harm them those dogs will be on crutches by now. I might try that paintball gun. I will do it, get in my car and come back home at midnight. That way I didn'tdo it. :D

  9. Actually there would be the same number of criminals on the street that day.

Not after the verdict on Mr Joe Horn.

wrong it is perfectly legal and acceptable to shoot and kill people stealing your possessions day and night in Texas

if you don't feel it is acceptable then you should kindly post your feelings on a sign in your front yard that you are accepting of crime and criminals and then maybe the rest of us will be left alone or you can move to a state that coddles and accepts criminals.....most of the rest of us are tired of them no matter what they are taking

Well said and true. But I still don't support killing someone that didn't kill someone. A nice beating and permanent scar on the face aint bad though.

  10. This thread is interesting. I don't live in Houston and don't know if Manvel has any law against it, but this shouldn't be a matter of law. Isn't there something called 'civility'? The lady next to my immediate neighbor do a great job picking up after her dogs but there are two dogs that come from the next street to poop in my yard. It is annoying. Their owner(s) let them off at night, ROUTINELY. They are very healthy and well fed. I know because the poops have grown bigger over time.

Please advise me. Is there any law against maiming a dog if it scares your two-year-old on your own property?

What I'm talking about is bigger than any of these three you posted by the way.

  11. Wonder if we'll get one here in Houston soon. I have a feeling we will. There have been a lot of earthquakes in odd places lately.

Since Houston qualifies as odd, I think our chances are pretty good.

No I don't want earthquakes. I moved to Houston because I can deal with our natural disaster better. Hurricane coming? Run for cover. But earthquakes come unannounced.

The quake in Dallas, how much is its impact? Can it like knock figurines over?

  12. Rice has directed more attention to medical research in the last decade. It officially became a TMC institution in 2003 I think. Thinking of taking over Baylor clearly shows Rice's vision. But they do need to iron out a lot of things, one of which is Baylor's affiliations with TMC hospitals. Without good practice sites there is no good med school.
