  1. I grew up in Channelview and after 7 yrs decided to drive thru and see the old house.....damn that is a hell hole...there are no deed restrictions and crap is everywhere...what the hell happened? I still like Northshore...thinking about moving around the Woodforest/Uvalde intersection...and its actually very east.
  2. no the area is north of 59 and west of Sharpstown mall
  3. thats prob the one I was at...it was an estate sale. This neighborhood looks like a real option for me.
  4. I went to look at a couple of houses in the sharpstown area...they were north of 59, north of fondren and west of the mall...I keep seeing postings like this is a dangerous area? It looked really nice...is there something I dont know about...and maybe its just the point of reference. I currently live off the intersection of Lawndale and Telephone. I classify this as a iffy area, not sharpstown. I am sure there are crappy apts over there, but I am talking about the nieghborhoods. I do notice houses are really cheap, so please enlighten me on whats going on over there.
  5. Thats the thing about those shops...you see people in them all the time, but they are just browsing....there has to be alot of sales to have enough profit to pay rent etc...
  6. Jan.? No it was today..do you mean its the same group? Didnt see anyone supporting illegal aliens.....
  7. looked like they were protesting for border control....noticed the day laborers were really far away from the action....
  8. okay once again, taking out friends that helped with wedding...must....have.....buffet (dying dramatic voice)...this is a not so nice brunch..baba yegas is on top unless I hear somehting else....seems everyone wants texas shaped waffles....
  9. I would love to ck on this bar...I remember they were sell bikes next door....good idea but they were super dated and about 2 yrs too late...the bike scene has moved on....
  10. ok went to Mia Bellas and the food was pretty good...disappointed cause they didnt have a buffet..but the total bill was only 21.00, hell thats what it at Dennys..so you cant beat the price. Tall ceilings, nice city views....we will definately go back.....buuut I still want a damn buffet.
  11. thanks for the options...we will go to mia bella...I will report on experience
  12. I am getting married this Sat and would like to take my new wife to brunch...and without the techno music..the only place I can think is Backdoor grill (?)...Is Bradys Landing still good? ANy other suggestions. Yes I know its weird but the wedding is a little rushed, so anything nice would be fun...even going out of town a bit.
  13. ok..I will post some more...but there really isnt much more in the room...
  14. oh sorry, not Shag carpet...Shag the artist (josh agle).
  15. ok..well thats the second problem...I have no imagination at all...I love Shag, but I think its dated just like Patrick Nagel. Where can I get something thats economically priced...please no ikea..and whats wrong with the color? I was thinking more earthtones.
  16. trust me, I look at all the mags, I think alot of those are staged shots...let me get some free time and will get a pic.
  17. well I have hardwoods and everything is minimalist....still looks bad..was thinking of changing all windows to just plate glass (they are all 6`3), but that just looks cheap. For some reason I focus on the trimwork...its all really tall and wide profile and thinking it should be flat and thin?
  18. When I look at mod houses, I love the interiors and the general look that says hey this house is a mod....I try to replicate this stuff in my own house, but no matter what, it just looks like a classic house with mod furniture. So the question is what are the qualities that tie this whole look together? Some may be color? Thinking more earth colors but not sure. Windows, doors???? Maybe its just the way the house is, but I am tired of this looking like an old lady house.
  19. they are open to the public, and buy and sell in bulk...thats why all those bulk shipping containers are out there, and they have multiples of so many items. They are expensive to me, but someone is buying it. Why not PSD..its cheap office space...like a central whse so they can have a small storefront.
  20. first is talk to the neighbors, if it happened to you, your prob not the first or last. You should have an alarm with motion downstairs...at night the motion can be on,and would detect anyone breaking in...as for the glass breaking, hopefully its not because the tenent was mean to the kids of the area...but once again that can maybe be handled with talking to the neighbors. For someone to hit an upper window, it may have taken a couple of tries, someone had to see something. I would maybe get a cheap day/night video camera from frys...that may show who is doing it, hopefully its not your tennant trying to get out of lease. Oh, and the neighbors with punk kids, you may want to explain WHAT will happen if they are caught damaging your property. You have the right to defend your property and shoot if your life feels threatened. I am not a lawyer, so there may be more to the law, but I think thats it.
  21. If the colgate house wast the one with atrium, I was shocked at how close the trees were to the entryway. Outside the house the trees had detroyed the surrounding concrete and can only imagine it has the same reaction to the slab
  22. ohhhh I was wondering about that plywood and why some of it sounded hollow underneath. I mentioned mods, but really was refering to houses with such a large slab. So are foundation repairs a somewhat permanent fix, or is just a ongoing problem that wont stop?
  23. So I went on the Glenbrook open houses on Sun. and couldnt help but notice what appeared to be foundation problems in all the houses. I am talking about drywall cracks, doors that dont fit and unusual humps in the floors. Is this normal for house with slabs so massive. Are the repairs permanent? Is this a big concern? I know those pipes under those houses are reaching the end of their life and may be leaking, but just want some opinions on whats going on with these houses.
  24. I always go to Lowes...not sure if its more expensive or not, but it really doesnt matter...everything is in order, people are helpful, and there isnt anyone hustling for a buck.
