  1. Lots of reasons... it's existing infrastructure framework and proximity to downtown for starters. Keep in mind I said the center of urban living in Houston. I don't mean that it should be the only urban residential place, but that it should be the area the city focuses on improving first as the centerpiece and example for future areas to follow.
The City has put tons of money in the area already. It's not the job of the city to improve private properties. Maybe if it was public housing they would step in. that would be great access to the public transportation system for those who really NEED it.
  2. Since a lot of that is abandoned warehouses, it also makes the land acquisition less abrasive than, say, cutting through an established neighborhood.

harrisburg area IS an established neighborhood.

  3. I think so...he will close at 164k...but did know that the townhome next to him (same sq foot, interior etc...) now there are selling it for 144k.

ouch. there are so many of the not sold units that look bad post ike. there's some on the east side of midtown that they are still trying to get full price for yet have been damaged. similarly there are some near dowling and congress that appear to be left to rot even though a few had been sold. it'll probably get a worse before it gets better.

  4. I disagree... since the Red Line, we have seen an outright explosion of development in the TMC (where there is no parking and employees are reliant on rail to get to work)
expansion in the TMC was going to happen period. employees were parking in the same outlying lot and taking in buses already.
  5. A pilot and photographer who were working for Houston TV station KTRK Channel 13 died late this morning when their helicopter crashed in thick woods in Montgomery County.

The ABC affiliate confirmed that the aircraft's two occupants, who were employed by contractors, were killed in the crash. The station said it lost contact with the helicopter about 11:15 a.m.

The victims' names have not been released.

The station aired the final seconds of video it received from the helicopter. The video showed the helicopter banking to the right before the screen went to black.

No information is yet available on what caused the crash, which occurred as the two were on their way to report on a story. Smoke billowed from the site and fragments of the helicopter were visible from the air.

  6. Thoughts on/experience with local schools - no clue, but I think many in the area send their kids to private schools

the public schools in the area have gone downhill over the yrs. quite a few went to mt carmel high school but that closed as well. a replacement will be opening next school yr but you have to qualify by not making too much money.

i do want to add - is there anything comparable to whole foods/organic food, et cetera in this area?

    nope.

  7. we were talking this very subject yesterday. a broker was telling me that some of his potential customers are being monitored more closely. more are being required to put money down but i believe that FHA was still doign some 100% loans if i remember correctly.

  8. Hey, does anybody know what to do about this? It's still very much alive. Not even paralyzed.

Will a vet remove it for free? Or am I going to have to kill it, rip the torso from the wing, and then dig out the fractured part of the wing with a straightened out clothes hanger?
