  1. The neighbors are fine.. there are two others sharing the same transformer, but it seems just the feed to our house is broke..

i would agree that it's between the tranformer and your house and not a transformer problem since the others have no problems.

call centerpoint again and make sure and describe what is happening when the workers arrive. this should be something that can be handled quickly.

from the prior calls that you've made have you gotten an automated response saying something like "press 1 if your power has been restored" or "press 2 if you are still having problems?"

  2. Situation as it stands so far according to the last electrician who came out is that we only have 110 running into the house and we have a phase out. The culprit is assumed to be the transformer. So we have been unable to use: Stove, refrigerator, A/C, washer/dryer, dishwasher, and about half of the room lights and outlets in the house. Some lights work.. Some ceiling fans work.. great.. I'm better than none.. but when there's only (as of today) 4341 people left in centerpoint's area without lights.. and some 1000 workers.. could someone come by a small house close to downtown and take 30 minutes to fix something which is ready to go?

So: Anyone know an electrician who can fix a transformer for not too much money, and/or what other avenues I can take to get any attention from the bureaucracy of Centerpoint?

usually the electricians won't touch the transformers....so are your neighbors (who are on the same transformer as you) also only receiving 110? if so then i'd say there is a transformer problem, if not it something in your specific circuit.

i was talking to someone this morning who still doesn't have power.....

  3. uggggh! who do I call to complain. I first road the partially open bypass the day it opened. it was great in august. then when school opened - it has been a nightmare ever since. by not opening the bridge over El Camino, they have exacerbated the problem 10 fold. I get on at 45 and come to a screaching halt on the ramp over Highway 3. why is the last portion over El Camino not open yet??? They have not worked on the road surface for weeks. in early august a traffic sign appeared saying " signal ahead be prepared to stop" on the portion that goes over El Camino. it was there for weeks and then they took it down in prep for the hurricane. It was clearly a sign to prepare people that there is a traffic signal at the end of bypass. It is now October and still? they have not opened it. Who do we complain to? Why is this project being run so incompetently? Why is it not open yet? It is the most rage inducing thing when you are on a so called bypass and it takes you 25 minutes to go less then a mile! TX DOT doesn't even list the bypass on their website. Does anybody have any info when they will open the east end? The end they have not worked on in weeeks, because it is CLEARLY finished.

    (281) 464-5500

this is txdot se office on 1959.

EDIT: TxDOT is claiming utility issues with centerpoint is the reason the overpass at el camino isnt open. they said freeway project is scheduled to be finished nov 2009 :(

  4. How far separated do they need to be? I have two piles in front of my house right next to each other and I'm trying to figure out why none of it - even the branches - got picked up while the rest of the neighborhood did.

they pick up debris up mechanically so it's not a detailed science however i had mine 10' or so and they picked up the building materials already.

  5. i work with a couple of people in the military who told me that the govt pays something on the order of $20/meal. they said they don't eat them unless they have to because they are designed to make you somewhat constipated so that you're not looking for a restroom on the battlefield.

  6. Musicman, I'm not exactly sure what world you live on, but this does not happen. This didn't happen before Ike and it won't happen after Ike.

Thank you for your thought-provoking advice.

it happens in my hood cause my tree is nicely trimmed around the wires. you have to be proactive and call. from your previous posts it is fairly obvious you're not proactive.

  7. Never lost phone service during or ofter the storm until last Friday. Still waiting on a service call. There is still a very faint dial tone, but lots of weird noise in the line, and we appear to be crossed with at least one other phone number. Anybody ever experienced something like that?

sounds like the lines got wet. my parents used to get this all the time. here's some other info we got at work.

    CABLE AND COMMUNICATIONS PROVIDERS

T-Mobile is topping off pre-paid cell phones that were running low at no charge to make sure people don't run out of service, and it has suspended collections calls in Houston and Galveston.

Sprint is waiving roaming fees, call-forwarding, late fees and overage charges for customers who use more minutes or text messages than they're allowed between Sept. 9 and Oct. 11, said spokeswoman Kristin Wallace. The company is also offering free call-forwarding service and Sprint has suspended collections calls and service disconnections.

AT&T has suspended all disconnections and collection activities. The company is providing free local and long-distance calling in all of its retail stores, and is offering free Wi-Fi service to anyone at all area Barnes and Noble locations, said spokesman Dan Feldstein. AT&T will work with customers on their billing on a case-by-case basis. AT&T also offers its customers rollover minutes, allowing them to absorb a month in which their usage is heavier than normal.

Verizon Wireless is giving one month of free service in the 409 area code and has suspended collections calls in the Greater Houston area, said spokeswoman Gretchen LeJeune.

Verizon which provides landline phone service in several cities around Galveston Bay, has suspended collections calls and disconnections, said spokesman Lee Gierczynski.

Comcast has suspended disconnections and collections, said spokesman Ray Purser.

Time Warner Cable, which provides cable service for Beaumont and parts of Southeast Texas, has credited customers' accounts back to Sept. 12 and will extend credits until service is restored, said spokesman Gary Underwood. The company also is not disconnecting customers or making collections calls.

  8. wasn't that impressed with the burger either, but from a strictly value perspective. if the same burger were $10, i'd be there every week.

i pay less than that at market square grill and like them considerably more. as for value, the 2x i've been to beaver's and to her other place t'afia, i think the drinks are too much, way too much. using tito's and flor de ca

  9. ok...finally got power today...no the appraisel is 20k over what I paid. I have done extensive renovations..not sure what kinda follow up they have if I show crappy before pics and say "this is it".

they may have pics of the outside taken from the street however usually nothing beyond that

  10. The Washburn Tunnel was barely flooded. Even New York subways have flooded before, so nothing new.

the northside doors failed and according to county commissioner garcia over a million gallons of water are in there and it will take 4 to 5 days to drain.

  11. Yeah, but how large of an area is the entire East End??? Fiesta is much more on the Lawndale side, and there's still a big gaping hole of grocers on the northern swath of East End towards downtown (you know, the part that is seeing explosive construction and development right now??). Also, it's a matter of walkability. Houstonians will never totally abandon their cars, but the inner loop is transitioning into a much more walk-friendly area. So we'll have to plan for things like grocery stores and other retail that are in each neighborhood section.

so you can't walk to a fiesta if one is built?

  12. Figures, same thing I thought of. (I edited my above post... it was a rant)

I think most of SW Houston (S. Post Oak, W. Bellfort, Chimney Rock, Hillcroft, Willowbend, Bissonnet, Bellaire and so on) will have power 'by' October the 20th.

77035 and 77096 won't have power till weeks to come... yay

77035 as of 09/25/08 5:00 AM CST- 24% without power.

77035 as of 09/26/08 5:00 AM CST- 17% without power.

Making progress, I do have a feeling one of these days it will jump 30% up.

most zips would be happy with 17%. i know mine is 71% still out and others are more.
