They have always been there, they are just making them wider and therefore taller to accommodate the new widened roads! Love our arches and can't wait to get our UFO street signs back up! Target date for everything done is Dec 2018 but thinking it may go just a little beyond that... we shall see!

Good lord all this is still giving me a headache...now i know how the developer feels haha! I Hope they just knock down that old abandoned building soon and get rid of the mattress store with the old bank drive-thru still attached! Thank you everyone for the posts and clarification! I love Uptown and enjoy seeing it get bigger and better!

Urbannizer! Thank you for the update...I will admit the wording of that attachment left me confused and with a headache haha! Does it all mean that the Cosmopolitan's case has basically been dismissed and the new developers can proceed on the adjacent land? Thank you!!!

Snooze is definitely my current favorite breakfast place...and while the lines/wait can be a bummer, maybe by opening more the wait will be less ....either way, i am stoked to possibly be getting one of these 1 block from my condo and 2 blocks from my work!!!

Oh i want to add that I have stayed at every W Hotel in New York city and while I will admit I got the best priced room, the rooms were super tiny...think cruise ship sized haha!
So yes they can probably fit 400 rooms in a 15 story building if not a 5 story building if they wanted to ha!

Also one note is that more and more this area is becoming a destination to hang and play and relax...I think the Hilton started the trend of this area no longer just being for convention hotels and the Marriott sealed the deal for making it a vacation and staycation spot and now the W Hotel would add to that!

I agree. It seemed to lose its small town charm. My favorite was the five and dime, Alfreds, and I loved the small Rice Food Market.
Also back in the days there used to be a bar where the Compass bank is on University called the Poor Mans Country Club, run by a
great proprietor named Al.
The Five and Dime was the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I too loved the small town charm of that development! I also miss the anime/toy/collectible store that was there!

I would imagine there is a desire to "Keep Montrose Weird." Public enhancements translates into higher rents, and that drives out the independently owned businesses and replaces them with chains. All fine and good for Uptown but Montrose is not trying to be a high end shopping district.
Actually it's way too late to "keep montrose weird" and that indeed is unfortunate....long gone is the montrose I have been running around in since the 80's!!! It makes me sad for sure! Now lets make it at least presentable as far as the roads and sidewalks go...obviously you haven't tried to ride a bike in Montrose...the poorly maintained streets and sidewalks make it near impossible...so lets not make it "not weird", let's just make it "not ugly" and "not safe"

Montrose is going to be high rise boulevard with its location to the park and the museums and the location between downtown and the med center.
Hopefully they are still working on plans to rebuild Montrose with new sidewalks, signage, and lighting to make it into a grand boulevard!
Uptown looks so incredible (even more so now with the new Post Oak Blvd project) with curbs, sidewalks, lighting, trees, etc...Kirby and now with the River Oaks portion of Westheimer included looks amazing with its new curbs, sidewalks and lighting...I have long wondered why the Montrose (and Westheimer area of Montrose) continues to look so run down...they really are in need of something to make the area look nicer and more cohesive...uniform curbs, sidewalks, lighting and landscaping would be a huge help! I hope they get the same attention and makeover these other areas are getting! Love that part of town, so I hope it happens soon enough!

I wonder if West Elm is truly planning to move to this location as shown in the illustration above and possibly soon since they highland village location closed!? If that is the case, I hope that the rest of this development continues to get more places i will actually shop and eat! crossing fingers..........!
