  1. Good, tangible progress considering overall circumstances.
  2. Did you all see the bs about efficient cars getting preffered parking? I can see that going well...especially when the primary tenant or manager has some say.
  3. Did anybody else hear something about Mayor Parker's positive remarks regarding the stadium? It was along the lines that it'll be built. Not sure where my friend heard this but was trying to see if anything more concrete was said.
  4. Thanks for coming out... the great thing about HAIF is that even when things get testy people have intelligence and sense or at least give the other side a chance to get their point across.
  5. According to Glenn's show last night and Luck, they are preparing for some meetings soon between the team, city and county. Hopefully this can get agreed upon soon and built by 2012. The favorable pressure from all but especially East End residents and continued fan support alliance is making a noticeable difference.
  6. I agree with this sentiment and believe it can stand on it's own merit. Our group's support (fan alliance not living in East End) has focused on the positive despite all negaitive out there now and favorabel aspects/benefit for the area compared to other areas for both parties invloved. In other words putting the stadium in other proposed site or suburbs won't offer much incremental benefit to the team, area in question and TSU (which also stands to benefit from the East End location) plus synergy with the light rail lines. Also, the Ch 13 report (video on their website) about quotes from this morning's State of County was encouraging.
  7. My friend who also lives in East End sent me a message over the weekend about this...they could care less about soccer or Dynamo but a prison would not be best for the type of development they're aiming for. This would be lose-lose for many people and a win for few.
  8. One difference between Dynamo and Rockets-Astros is that we also tailgate (like the Texans fans). This means that people would hang around before and after games in the areas or at least buy last minute material from local area. I always buy my drinks and some food before games in the vicinity before our games. But like I said before if the rumor were to hold or move forward at all, I would much rather benefit me and my area of town. Plus we're used to traffic in the Uptown area (live and work here for 8 years) and this would not be as bad as the masses around Christmas shopping.
  9. If the people in East End don't want development and that county district doesn't want to also help TSU then it would be better for me and my part of town. I could almost walk to the rumored alternative!
  10. With JAL filing for bankruptcy there could be some benefits? Japan Airlines files for bankruptcy protection
  11. I heard this at one of my HOA Board Meetings but was not sure of reliability. Nevertheless, given the significant impact (we live just south of the potential site) I wanted to get more verification.
  12. The actual address is 1726 and 1724 Augusta Dr. 77057. Only found that the owner is SELA LTD (Houston 77096) and this at Swamplot about demolition: http://swamplot.com/...ver/2009-06-04/ & http://swamplot.com/...-08/#more-12088 Based on my search I only found info about Augusta Pines (in Spring) and down the street on Woodway.
  13. I was wondering if anybody else can confirm a rumor that a highrise condo will be built on the site of a recently demolished building. It was next to 1800 Augusta Dr, just south of San Felipe, and at about 1750 Augusta Dr 77057. Since I live just a block south I was trying to prepare for possible effects of the construction and the weak rumor that more will follow moving southward (including our complex!?). Map of location Any additional insight?
  14. Awesome! The diversity of furry, funny critters were good last time but I thought something was missing.
  15. What do these people (oppossing) think will happen in a large city? I live (in the Galleria area) behind a tower that's at least twice as high and several mid-rises while many much richer people in River Oaks live with similar residential projects yet we manage with these or adjust to new projects. It baffling that they such attention compared to other projects throughout the city/metro area. Is this really the most pressing issue now (or at the time this started)? It's not like the developer wants to build a nuclear plant or freeway in the middle of the neighberhood.
  16. The sport complex is the training facility (around 288 & beltway 8), they're somewhat seperated though. Will also serve as youth/public facilities built in conjunction with COH, HCC & a church. More info/cross reference: http://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/in...showtopic=16543 and http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/stories...ml?ana=from_rss
  17. I was looking for this in various places for info on location. where it at? Didn't find at http://www.texasfreeway.com/houston/histor...ic_photos.shtml ? Great site by the way.

    METRORail Green Line

Agree and then some. Given the trends in diminishing oil along with the general sentiments of the younger generation, the appreciation of this system will only increase. It has been slow to get where we're at but the desire to be a cosmopalitan, world class city is increasing (meaning among other things a more efficient mass transport system including light rail or subway). When trying to be the best model yourself after the best. Furthermore, the single line was a starting point that currently may not work well for many but once the other lines get built the system will function better for more users. If you compare the single line to most systems worlwide (built over decades or close to a century in the case of Paris and London) then it's not effecient but then you say the same about a highway to nowhere. The chron comments, from people that don't even live in the city and/or metro area (you can tell by their profile or even profile names), complaining about something that's not in their area are amussing at best.
  19. This is part of the on-going Uptown improvements (both utilities and San Felipe expansion). An excerpt: San Felipe at Post Oak Lane Beginning Friday, August 1, the intersection of Post Oak Lane and San Felipe will be under construction to install a 90" storm pipe across the intersection, which will provide the future connections for work on San Felipe and the extension of Post Oak Lane south. More infor: http://www.uptown-houston.com/road/improve...provements.html Great for the long-term but a hassle (San Felipe expansion & related work) that you to live with. I've been dealing with this work (on-and-off) since I moved to the area in 2002 so when I hear about opposition to general improvements across the city (light rail, etc) it kind annoys me. It's part of living in a dynamic city--you're eithering expanding or dying.
  20. Did you think of this when sippin your martinis? Come to section 213/214 sometime. Somos El Batallon!
  21. It's slow moving but the county is moving along now with more information. Great movement in the last month. The area will get upgrades (infrastructure), the team will get stadium, TSU will also have access (for relatively minimal cost), affordability is included and East End will get a spurt of growth in slowing economy.
  22. AGREED--Nothing against Rice BUT why would I pay twice as much for an engineering degree that is ranked twice as low compared to UT! <Back to the name change and general UH discussion.> UH is a great local school but it didn't offer what I wanted at the time - Petroleum Engineering degree (B.S.). I would consider for a M.S. but don't need at the time.
  23. They don't want to use Designated Player slot until they get a stadium and/or change coaching philosphy (they are about the team not just one star). This could change for the right player of course. Difficult move but could prove smart in some ways...still lost DeRo!
  24. I thought you were all talking about the old (out of business) Astrodome-like muffler/mechanic shop on Chimney Rock (between Richmond & 59). This project is pretty much dead - Dubia Inc is in crisis mitigation mode these days. Everybody there (especially long-time, non-citizens) wondered how long they could keep the bubble going.
