  1. This is great news and suitable fit for BG's US HQ.
  2. I was trying to imagine what this building looked like but realized it was before my time or before I went in that area so I found the following picture: Texaco Building? What this it? Never mind, found it: http://www.houstonarchitecture.com/Building/2216/Texaco-Building.php
  3. Austin MetroRail - they just opened a few months ago/early this year. I am not saying it's the best thing since sliced bread but it's too early to tell. I like my car as much as the next person but I have never rented a car outside the US for work or personal travel because of the good mass transit. It more favorable when it's a good mix of trains (light/tram, subway or heavy) and buses in some cases. Diversification is good for investment and energy as well as mass transit.
  4. No new pictures but some more details from meeting last night: Dec 2010 ground-breaking confirmed. This means complete handover and all utility/excavation done by city/other entities. The stage will be on the southern part, where offices and locker room would be. They will be less noticeable and covered by/under seats. Could of been worse. Also, steel or good foundation/skeleton of the stadium should be firm around Spring 2011 time and general shape of stadium will start to rise shortly thereafter.
  5. The Nature Preserve concept is interesting: http://www.springwoodsvillage.com/images/large/SW%20Nature%20Preserve%20Book%20site%20section.jpg
  6. Why do people like that place? Not only is it the worst tex-mex food but it's over-priced!
  7. TheNiche, what's up with you valuing old building over old people?
  8. You got to give them props for their confidence and approach, at least.
  9. Not sure how familiar you are with that part of town so maybe this is too much? It includes Eastwood and that is where most people I know are/were buying homes. I am actually in one of their picture, even though I was just visiting! According to Eastwood website their (greater) Civic boundaries are Harrisburg, Oldham, Gulf Freeway and Milby but the subdivision is smaller. More information: East End Website, Area Map From Wiki:
  10. From an outsider perspective (grew in NW part of the county and live in Galleria area now) the overall view has changed for the area. It's still considered gay friendly and open-minded but the community has spread out more. It seems that the new residential hot spot is East End (since my straight friend invites me and my wife to their parties) but the clubs have remaimed in this original area. Growing up I remember going to part of town to get help with my parent's immigration process, it was a pain but the non-profit groups were a big help.
  11. Two semi-related aspects to be proud of and worth sharing: Houston leading in the World Cup Bid Leaderboard for most bid signatures http://www.gousabid....august-24-2010/ Justice - Soccer not second class in this city: http://www.chron.com....e/7192487.html
  12. It seems like yesterday that I was sitting at mass in St Jerome or at the carnival/Fall Festival with English, Spanish and Vietnamese speaking people. Tri-lingual mass is something else. Yes, they were at/part of St Jerome Parish (in Spring Branch) till about late 1980's. It's amazing and great to see how much this community have grown.
  13. The closest store to me is that one Dunvale and it can be an experience just driving by there.
  14. This is true. You got to wonder why people would defend slimey companies like this and then say thay are for the working class. There are many examples but if your business is decimated by them then you would not be in favor of them, as has occurred in many small towns across the USA. For the record I grew up poor, am a minority and have been unemployed for more than a couple of months, too. Either way the simple solution is not set a foot in their business or buy from them, as is case of any company you don't like.
  15. Read the great Forbes article about Houston yet?

  16. From what I saw just the one linked above, just north of the arches in that map. I guess they're starting with the ones labeled with lower numbers (BLVD 1, etc) and that look the worst plus are more visible.
  17. They have started putting fencing around the Northern building (closet to San Felipe and Post Oak Blvd). Not sure if it was all around the complex, just the front or what. I will see what else they do before I go out of town. Yes, the street work and landscape look great (especially the lights). Good thing since it took so looooong and still not quite done!
  18. Well they put up a for sale sign a few months ago so I guess whatever was intitially planned has been canceled.
  19. Man, I am so pumped about the news! A great step and the final seal of approval or the "agreement to agree" as they said at the meeting.
  20. The proposed (Dynamo stadium) ordinance item formally passed at City Hall this morning! Next major step is the County meeting on April 13th!
  21. It's officially on the City agenda (http://www.houstontx...sec/agenda.html): With the County to follow on April 13th.
