  1. i live in that neighborhood. Depending on who I am talking to i say Montrose or Midtown. I never say neartown, if I did no one would have any idea what I'm talking about and I would just have to explain using Montrose and Midtown as references anyways.
  2. From the St Joseph Professional building.
  3. From CVHS. The lights on the old Continental building changed colors over time. And what you can't see here are the 40 spotlights hitting the clouds
  4. Looks great. I snapped a pic but don't have space to upload... Will try tomorrow
  5. http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/houston/articleComments/US-agency-to-test-for-radiation-around-city-using-10897170.php wife saw these buzzing by her office full speed so looked it up.
  6. Broadcast locations: Wednesday through Friday, SportsCenter and ESPN’s NFL shows will originate from downtown Houston – adjacent to the Toyota Center between Austin, Bell, LaBranch and Leeland Streets, while Mike & Mike, First Take and Outside the Lines will be live from nearby Lucky’s Pub. Fans are invited to view live programming from both locations. Additionally, ESPN Radio’s The Stephen A. Smith Show and Russillo & Kanell will broadcast from Radio Row at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Also found this article which is a bit old but didn't see it linked on this thread: http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2017/01/20/espn-s-houstonsuper-bowl-broadcast-location-to.html Nothing definitive on why they moved, just some political weasel words:
  7. To get downtown Saturday, we took the 40/41 down W Dallas. It normally goes all the way to Disco Green but because of all the closures it dropped us off at Fannin which is only a few blocks away. I wasn't sure where it would pick us up with the route change (which wasn't reflected on google maps) so we took the 32 back to get us down W Gray. Worked out well. Saw the Green link running often. Also noticed some lots farther away for $10 and closer at $20-30.
  8. we went on Sunday morning. waited about 1.5 hours to ride the "Future Flight" virtual reality ride. It was really cool, but obviously takes up a lot of your time. Other than that we just wandered and ate at one of the food trucks. Didn't make the NFL Experience. Also on Friday I was checking out the mockup of the James Webb telescope and asked a guy looking at it to take a pic of me and my son. Turns out he was the VP of Space Systems for Northrop Grumman so we chatted for a while. He was there for some event with NASA dignitaries. James Webb is coming to JSC in a few weeks because we have the only thermal-vacuum chamber large enough to test it.
  9. Appears that with parking above and below the store, there will be a good chunk of land required for ramps though.
  10. from tonight, bridge for Hazard was the only one on. i assume these are not going to change colors?
  11. I was hoping I would log in to HAIF in 2017 and this thread wouldn't be active...
  12. I took the Allen to 45S ramp this morning. Ironically I was closer to getting in to an accident with the right entrance than I ever was in the years I took the old one. Someone came darting across the double line to take advantage of the open lane and I had to brake to avoid being clipped (I was accelerating given it was all clear in front of me). The signage from Allen is a bit confusing, it clearly tells you to stay right for 45S but then it splits again, and the road to the right is not marked at all and this goes to Heiner/W Dallas. A little further up the road that splits to the left does have a 45S sign but you may not initially see that since all previous signs tell you to stay right.
  13. is the entrance ramp from Allen Parkway eastbound to 45S open? Looked like it the other day but not sure I saw it correctly...
  14. My coworker just showed me this picture from the Louisville game. I was there but couldn't find myself. Its amazing at the clarity and resolution, you can zoom in pretty far: https://gigapixel.panoramas.com/houston/football/20161117/
  15. There is one by HCC and one in Bellaire called Luigi's Pizzeria. Here is their site: http://www.luigipizzamidtown.com/ I can't get to the link posted above for this new Luigi's Italian: http://luigismidtown.com/
  16. whoa what happened? Hope everyone is ok. I live down the street and didn't notice any commotion...
  17. Meaning it will be 1/4 the size of a normal Whole Foods? Or 1/2 the price of a normal Whole Foods?
  18. Did the public hearing take place? I can't find any news on the topic.
  19. Plenty of people parked there today. Barriers were still up yesterday and partially moved today. The meters are installed but they have covers over them. On Friday workers were out planting transported young trees that were at the same maturity as the ones already there. I have to say, having this buffer of the parking lane there is really nice, makes the ride/walk more serene having that separation between what used to be 45 mph traffic. One thing I wish they did was put up an traffic light when facing southbound headed across Allen to Taft. No traffic can come this way and there is a good pedestrian crosswalk and pedestrian light. But when I'm on my bike I'm not going to hit the crosswalk button and I can't tell the status of the vehicle light. Overall its looking really nice
  20. Their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Ship-Shield-311476425874783/ Weird concept. Should we take bets on if it will last longer than Barbell?
  21. I know back in April-May, there were new contingent owners doing a 3-month test run I believe. I don't know what came out of that, but I know he was trying to sell. The new potential owners I met were Indian, but not the Cowboy and Indian kind!
  22. Its the Chronicle and back in July so take it for what its worth: http://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/transportation/article/Work-resuming-soon-on-11-million-Allen-Parkway-8336975.php
  23. Read in another article that the parking will be metered. I'm ok with that (but I'm biassed because I'm walking distance!) I think they will be in high demand and it will be good to limit it, though I'm sure many will find the max time limit annoying.
