  1. I believe it was an Academy store after A&P before it became an HEB or was that next door?
  2. Is he still hosting the Family Feud?
  3. That's great. Maybe they will start passing out fortune cookies during his sermons.
  4. Interesting although I don't agree with their statement: "Such a large discrepancy between Republican and Democratic households seemed a little suspicious considering Democrats are typically far more likely to be in favor of abortion and small families than Republicans."
  5. Their Sunday brunch's are outstanding.
  6. I bet they are just posturing. I doubt the Friends of KTRU have the kind of money needed to go up against Rice's team of lawyers. Hell, Leebron is a lawyer. Maybe he will take them on himself.
  7. Neither Consumer Reports or Zagats mention Smash Burger which I think is far superior to Five Guys. Maybe they are still to small of a franchise to get any attention.
  8. I'm sure this will mean an increase in ticket prices next season.
  9. I stand corrected. It was burning pine needles. They were cheaper this year then straw/hay.
  10. Hopefully he won't live to see his 48th birthday.
  11. The pumpkins were real as was the burning straw they were sitting on.
  12. Fire seems to be located to the exterior of the Kirby store for now. The store has been evacuated.
  13. The place went downhill when they started having cheap summer passes. Certain people figured out it was cheaper than day care so they would drop off their juvenile delinquents in the morning and come back and pick them up when the park closed leaving them totally unsupervised.
  14. Sounds like no second shooter found.
  15. I was there two weeks ago and had the Route 66 which was quite good. I think the problem is there is just so many good craft beers on tap all over Houston that you can no longer just rely on your own brew to make a place work.
  16. The ones in Houston are dying because they are little more than sports bars which just happen to brew their own beer. Perhaps something a little more upscale with decent food like the Covey in Fort Worth could succeed here.
  17. It's a shame a city the size of Houston does not have more brew pubs (make that none after Two Rows closes). I can remember when there were several brew pubs back in the 90's.
  18. Did not know that. It's been a couple of years since I visited Ernies on Banks. I like the Flying Saucer but it does get loud and crowded. I'm more of a Ginger Man kind of guy. I much prefer the Rice Village area to downtown anyhow. Plenty of bar hopping available within just a few blocks and several nice restaurants.
  19. Ernies is still around. It's s a big Rice hangout or used to be. Wasn't Deans supposed to be moving to Montrose area?
  20. Back then we didn't care or even bother to notice who was gay or straight. Either you where a stoner or you weren't. It was the hair for the most part that defined who you where. Of course that was back when I had hair.
  21. Yeah but at a steep price that would pay for a couple of drinks.
  22. Yeah. I'm not much of a hopper. I prefer just to settle in at one place. Maybe that's why I'm not a downtown type of person. And I agree parking for some places on Washington is pretty bad if you don't arrive early. I think a lot of people in the Heights enjoy being able to walk to a bar and not have to worry about drinking then driving. I know I would.
  23. I've never been a big fan of downtown (at least not since the 60's) but I would venture to say there is just to much competition from other entities that are attracting the same crowd that used to venture downtown. There has been so many new restaurants and clubs added in recent years in uptown, the Heights and along Washington Blvd. Those and places like the CityCentre have become the new hot places to go without the hassle of driving and parking downtown.
