  1. Since you live in Third Ward, what do they think of the University Line plans?

Alot of people in third Ward believe that rail is a form of gentrification and there are alot opposed and some indifferent. But to tell you the truth, when i'm home in the TRE, my peer of neighbors rarely bring up political matters.

The oil argument doesn't cut it, either. When oil gets truely expensive, then we can build transit. I don't have a problem with transit. I have a problem with inappropriate kinds of transit implemented incorrectly and at the wrong stage in a city's development. Btw, we're the nation's 4th largest City, but the 6th largest metropolitan area.

Spending lots of money on this kind of LRT at any point in time is not 'progress'. Spending lots of money on the right kind of LRT right now is not 'progress'. These are examples of waste.

I don't know about you but oil is already truly expensive. And the time to start getting the infrastructure is NOT after gas oil becomes too expensive. I strongly disagree with that assessment. Tell me what are your grandois ideas of correct implementation of transit? Tell me what's the right time? We're already running out of time as the urban core continues to densify.

I know i'm probably just wasting my time and brain cells going back and forth because I already know you're viewpoints aren't going to change.

  2. I've explained inflation on HAIF before, and it takes too much time to do so with an acceptable degree of accuracy.

I respect your opinon, but I think myself and alot of other posters get frustrated with your posts involving Mass Transit because they don't suggest progress for the city. You can't rely on oil prices alone to hit low when we're talking long term. Rail is undeniably justifiable for the 4th largest city. If it were up to you, you'd be happy with the crappy buses.

  3. Let me guess Citykid, the third comment in the comment section was yours right? You visited Atlanta in 2006, You've described the current rail as a toy on numerous occasion.

But Carey's right. Houston needs to get their public transit system together fast. Lack of it is what's hendering this city. We have our AftonOaks schumcks to thank for delaying the process even further.

  4. Well yeah anything beats those ugly parking lots so I guess I can't be too choosy. I guess i'm more turned on by flashy things like the screens in Victory Plaza and LA LIVE, even though Victory Plaza is mainly Concrete and really not intended to preserve green space.

And Sub, you may be right

  5. I'm sorry to be such a downer but I've never been too excited about this park. I mean, it is an attraction and it is a nice place and it is downtown but its just a park! I can get everything this park offers by going to Herman Park or other parks throughout the city. I'm more excited about the Houston Pavilions and the possible stores that will be opening on the Main Street front

  6. Dallas is very impressive, especially those new Towers going up in Uptown. I hope they can finish cleaning up Midtown Houston so it starts to see a boom of newer skyscrapers. The old ugly ones such as Central Square building and the Vacant Old Days Inn are not helping for the appearance of Houston. I wish they would knock those buildings down if they're not going to try to rejuvenate it.

  7. I thought Houston was supposed to be on the virge of passing the Philadelphia metro? As of the latest 2007 estimates, it still looks like Houston has a ways to go and Philadelphia metro is still growing at a healthy rate.

    MSA census estimates 2007

    Houston 5.7 million

    Philadelphia 6.3 million

    DFW 6.4 million

Atlanta 5.2 million CSA 5.6 million

It seems we need to be more worried about Atlanta possibly surpassing us rather than thinking we'll pass Philly anytime soon.

  8. Any ideas you have for spicing things up around here -- I'm all ears.

I really don't think you want the ideas that have been lingering around in my mind. You won't take me serious.

But an example of the most entertaining threads that i can think off the top of my head are:

    1. University Rail on Richmond Thread

    2. Dallas's Victory Project vs Houston Pavilions/Eastside downtown development

    3. Houston Pavilions

    4. Port of Dallas

    5. Houston Texans football threads

    6. Houston vs Dallas Shopping

and more but i'm not fixing to name them all.

You pretty much nailed it on the head. There have been threads that petered out because there was no news or we had come to a general consensus of what is going to happen.

He's pretty much repeating what i said in the 2nd paragraph of my opening post. But he did nail it on the head.

  9. I mean really. No disrespect intended but i remember in the good old days of 2004-2006, i would be beating down doors to get to a computer to visit HAIF and nowdays, the topics of discussion are very slow.

I even accept the fact that its probably not even by fault of HAIF or its members. I'm thinking because all the exciting projects we discussed are now under construction or fixing to break ground and now we're just sitting back and watching them come to frution. On the flip side I'm more happy about that, seeing that Houston is progressing and alot of projects we'd talk about are actually showing action, instead of pipedreams.

I'll be honest though, things that used to be exciting on HAIF are no longer permitted such as: Dallas VS Houston friendly battles, houstonsemipro's posts, dalparadise VS Montrose 1100 pissmatches, twen2ty se7en vs dalparadise arguments, laughing at Plastic's grammar and other things,. That at least provided a little entertainment and gave a break from the conformed professionalism that the mods have sought after for years.

It's cool though, i know i probably need to grow up and move on  but i was just wondering if anyone else has noticed a little bit of slow discussion on HAIF lately?

  10. This project really got my attention. Sorry if its already been posted but it seems like downtowns everywhere are undergoing a major construction boom. It seems a little comparable to Houston Pavilions (only if you count the surrounding areas of MMP, Toyota Center, Upcoming Dynamo Stadium, and etc). The LED flashyness and residential component resembles Dallas's Victory Park. For all yall that say LA's downtown shuts down after dark. Get it all out now because its about to be hype !!!

    Overview:

    Phase 1: 7100 seat Nokia Theatre, 2007

    Phase 2: Shops/reustaurants/cafes/clubs/ESPN Zone, 2008 or 2009

Phase 3: Ritz Carlton Hotel, 54 floors, 2010

  11. Im sure u dont want to keep tabs on a big FAILURE like Victory Park.....I mean.....u have the Houston Pavillons to keep u on your toes right?...Victory is shutting everything down as we speak...I heard that they have already started removing the top floor of the W to dismantle the whole district...Its such a failure that they decided to remove the residential portion of it so it can be on par with smaller developments in which it is compared....Victory is very much a failure tho.....we havent a bowling alley to get people down there and shop and enjoy story time at a bookstore that Victory does not have....I guess I'll be at The Houston Pavillions all the time....It has EVERYTHING!!!!! :D

I'm not saying anything against Victory. I never said that i think Victory has flopped, failed, or shutting down. It's just going to take longer to be completed than anticipated.

The mesage you're replying to was regarding my question calling you out on your claim saying Dallas/Ft.Worth being the powerhouse of Texas. Victory had nothing to do with it. Asking what was new at Victory was my attempt to get the topic back on track.

  12. I am 28 yrs old....is that old enough? And just for the record....The Dallas Metyroplex IS the Power house of texas....go look it up.

Where can I find this information Dallasboi? I tried googling it and there's no declared winner. Yes Dallas/Ft Worth probably is the powerhouse of North Texas but Houston serves as a Powerhouse for South and Southeast Texas. Our Port of Houston serves as a major artery for goods coming in and out of the state so i think that's enough to say that Houston has a strong hold on this state!

But what does that have to do with the title of the thread anyway? Nothing. I think some people on here need to ease up on Victory a little. What if we hit an economic slowdown? I'm thinking some of us could be jinxing ourselves. Be careful!
