@Paco Jones where did you find this rendering?

Seems like an odd spot for a nightclub.

Explanation of what this means? lol
From what I gather as the most amateur person here is that they now have a permit in the system with their full plans. Those plans will be reviewed by the city for compliance to codes, etc. and if approved, it'll open the door for work to begin -- with additional permits required for each major item (building, plumbing, electrical), of course.

La Esquina is going to be posting up at East End Backyard in the evenings on Tuesday-Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday. They'll still be in their usual spot (corner of Hunt and Harrisburg across the light rail from the coffee plant) all day Monday and during lunch Tuesday-Friday. La Esquina's pretty awesome and I'm sure they'll do really well at East End Backyard.
This makes me actually want to go back.

It was a Nextdoor post saying cop cars, fire trucks and hazardous material vehicles were at the property. Was curious if anyone knew what was up.

Address for this site 3301 Canal St?
There was a waste/water application filed last February and the owner/occupant is listed as Taqueria La Paloma. They seem to have some locations in Dallas. I just emailed their contact info and asked if it is them.
The address on the app is a civil engineering firm here in Houston. They did the 6 story mixed use at Studewood/11th and the Lovett multi-building complex at Washington/Center/Silver.
The taqueria was the previous owner. Often on WW permits you'll notice the occupant is listed as the former owner while the buyer (or buyer's rep) is listed under "buyer".

If it is, thats telling because the rendering doesn't have a single Landrys, Rain Forest or Crab Shack in it.
Can you explain this? I feel like it's a joke but it went over my head.

I would be OK with an HEB similar to that in Rice Military. Otherwise I'd prefer to keep the commerce/canal concepts clean with walkable retail and multifamily

I know that Southside pizza is one block over -- maybe they are off by a little bit?
I don't think that's the case. The permit is a plan review fee for a buildout of a kitchen. Southside flying pizza is on the 2200 block, as well.

There's a permit for a "Pizza Bar and Kitchen" at 2320 Canal Street, which shows up as the block.
The permit has a buyer listed as "McIntyre Services", who also a permit in for changes at Equal Parts Brewing. Not sure if it's a permit company, or a company that is making changes in the neighborhood.

I'm not sure where the Landry's rumor started, but I have heard from my friends surrounding some of these deals (re: Olshan) that Landry's is not involved.
Ancorian developed the Block (2339 Commerce) and it makes sense that they would do this as well given that the block parking lot is being allocated as backup parking for this development. They've also pursued a ton of small and large developments in the EaDo and the East End.

I hope you both are right. I just havent seen anything concrete that supports your claim.
Jim Crane basically said he plans to develop it.
Also this, from ballpark digest:QuoteFor Crane and team president Reid Ryan, that means generating some ideas for future upgrades and hiring Cincinnati-based MSA Sport to turn those ideas into reality. From the Houston Chronicle:
“We’ve got a number of things we think we can do to improve the ballpark still on the drawing board,” Crane said. “More community areas, maybe an underground restaurant underneath the scoreboard — there’s a lot of things we can do — increase some of the premium areas. We’ll continue to look at it and continue to make those investments. “
Crane said the club has met with outside investors to address the stadium’s exterior and surging downtown surroundings, too. Rerouting U.S. 59 and Interstate 45 below grade on the stadium’s southwest side could open areas for a possible ballpark village, Ryan indicated.
“Downtown is thriving, it’s the spot to be, and we just wanted to make a long-term commitment to maintain the ballpark, keep it up to date and make it a great fan experience for our city and be right in the center of the action,” Crane said.

There's a permit in the system to repair this garage. Right now it looks like an abandoned shed. I'm curious if anything will come of this given it's proximity to all of the new development in the area.
