  1. Updates at Flyway! First up: Pop Stroke is under contract and The Rustic is in discussions with the city of Webster to bring a location. Second: Flyway Boardwalk, which is actually just a sidewalk.
  2. Some additional info found from a NAL-JSC presentation by the director of center operations at NASA JSC: Artemis Rock Yard. 4 phases, will allow for suit, vehicle, and equipment testing. The TAMU Proving Ground referred to is the Innovation Proving Grounds at the Texas A&M RELLIS Campus in Bryan. The Innovation Proving Grounds were built for the Army Futures Command with an appropriation from the Texas Legislature. Current and Future Projects: The water tower, Astromaterials Research & Exploration Science Annex, and Building 37 demolition were previously mentioned. The Operations and Maintenance Facility is Project N1 from the short term plan in my last post. Building 49 (Vibration and Acoustics Test Facility) is being put out to bid for industry to lease. Also of note was that a new engineering facility would be built across the street from Building 13 and Building 15, beginning next fiscal year. JSC will be creating a new master plan beginning next year as well. The last major point of discussion was Texas A&M's facility at Exploration Park. This is moving through the planning phases. An interesting outcome of that project is that Space Center Houston's lunar/martian surface simulation facility will no longer be moving forward as currently planned. Texas A&M will build those two facilities and duplication doesn't make sense. If Space Center Houston includes Texas A&M's facility as part of their tours, the university will have scored a major recruiting coup. JSC expects to have private commercial space companies take up space in Exploration Park as well.
  3. The Emergency Operations Center is now complete and an addition to Building 31 (Lunar Sample Laboratory Facility) is either underway or now complete to create the "Advanced Sample and Asteroid Curation Facility). Building 37 (Lunar Receiving Laboratory) is slated for demolition. Additionally, a water tower is now under construction. https://projects.constructconnect.com/details/6393252-awarded-task-order-demolition-of-building-37-ancillary-buildings-structures-copy&find_loc=texas-77058 JSC Master Plan:

  5. Classical architect Duncan G. Stroik created a master plan for St. Mary's quite a while ago. It isn't called out by name but it's pretty obvious if you're familiar with the seminary. Present Conditions (at time of master plan, a building has been added across from the Beran library since) Short-medium term? Long term or maximum buildout? https://www.stroik.com/portfolio/seminary-in-the-southwest
  6. City of College Station councilman Bob Yancy said an 800 bed complex is breaking ground "imminently". I believe it is this one, Nova Northgate. There's also a recent TDLR filing for it with a start date of December 1. 2023. This one will make an incredible new gateway into urban College Station from the west. https://texags.com/forums/35/topics/3418217/replies/66162507 https://www.tdlr.texas.gov/TABS/Search/Project/TABS2024004326 He also gives a nice vision/prediction for the next 15 years for the city. In this, he says there are half a dozen high-rises in Northgate in the planning and permitting process now. https://texags.com/forums/35/topics/3418217/replies/66162232
  7. The Industrial Distribution Building No. 1 is now open. https://readcenter.tamu.edu/about-us-2/the-rellis-campus/ https://engineering.tamu.edu/news/2023/09/texas-am-university-celebrates-opening-of-new-industrial-distribution-building.html The Animal Reproductive Biotechnology Center is now underway. The Rosenthal Meat Science and Technology Center will receive a new ~$125 million, 75,000 sf facility adjacent to the Animal Reproductive Biotechnology Center. https://www.txamfoundation.com/Spring-2023/Did-You-Know.aspx The RELLIS STEM Education Center was recently approved for construction. RELLIS Campus Data Center should (finally) begin construction next year. Although the mayor of Bryan on a radio interview recently said it had already started. https://www.tdlr.texas.gov/TABS/Search/Project/TABS2024004718 The Quantum and Artificial Intelligence Chip facility is on the capital plan for $100 million dollars. Not sure where on the campus it will be located. Additionally, $30 million were appropriated by the legislature for a hypersonic wind tunnel. Blinn's second building at RELLIS is now open. 8. I expect the left hand entrances and exits to be moved to the right hand side as part of the project to rebuild 45 South from 69 to the Beltway. There's a PEL that should be finishing up this year underway. Gulf Freeway PEL Study
  9. Significant overhaul in the works for a portion of Main St. downtown. This project would permanently remove vehicle lanes from these sections of Main St. and raise the grade of the former roadway to sidewalk level. https://www.houstontx.gov/council/committees/qol/20231025/More-Space-Main-Street.pdf
  10. Pagewood and Wile Interests plan to redevelop 10 blocks in EaDo into a mixed use development, including many Houston favorites. https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2023/11/13/pagewood-wile-interests-develop-east-blocks-eado.html?cx_testId=40&cx_testVariant=cx_27&cx_artPos=0#cxrecs_s
  11. Condos planned next to the Hilton in Nassau Bay: Canals of Taylor Lake progress (this is taking a ridiculously long time):
  12. It appears construction start is imminent. There is utility work occurring according to Tiara's Facebook story.
  13. Galveston Wharves Board of Trustees approved the engineering contract for the fourth cruise terminal and a parking garage. Connected to this, the port should have a contract with MSC within 30 days. https://www.galvnews.com/news/port-of-galveston-trustees-approves-5m-engineering-contract-for-fourth-cruise-terminal/article_2ce4a31c-9a75-5563-9237-ddc595f92ff7.html?block_id=531919 Additionally, in 2024, the port will demolish the ADM grain elevator, reopen the skywalk across Harborside Dr., and make some roadway improvements. https://www.galvnews.com/news/port-of-galveston-leaders-set-sail-for-2024-with-largest-ever-budget/article_054f0846-cf01-5225-9420-0e02ac5f1922.html
  14. Chicken N Pickle is quickly approaching completion. Here are a few renderings:
  15. I don't think it's unreasonable to think of this as just the first phase. The rendering is also clearly VERY preliminary. Looks more like a massing and lighting study accompanied by a drawing and site plan.
  16. The Port of Galveston Board of Trustees approved moving forward with the fourth cruise terminal on Tuesday. They deferred action on a $7 million contract for design and engineering services until after meeting with the City Council today (have not heard the outcome of that meeting). They will take action on that contract in November. Rendering and site plan for the fourth cruise terminal and garage: https://www.galvnews.com/news/trustees-vote-to-move-forward-on-fourth-cruise-terminal/article_543f3068-0ceb-5c5c-b0a8-68075549df13.html?block_id=531919 The board also approved a lease for the USS Texas to be moored at Pier 10, pending approval from the Army Corps of Engineers and pilots association. https://www.galvnews.com/news/port-approves-lease-discussions-for-battleship-texas-berth/article_65dcffee-cac3-59ce-81b7-38de4275ef52.html?block_id=531919
  17. “Harris County commissioners move forward with plan to revitalize NRG Park“ “Ideas discussed for the project included adding more green space, economic mixed-use areas instead of a massive parking lot that is empty most of the time, and looking to potential developments in the surrounding area, Precinct 1 Commissioner Rodney Ellis said.” “The HCSCC shall present a minimum of two alternative plans based on national best practices and examples to redevelop, revitalize and plan for the future of the NRG Park complex.” https://communityimpact.com/houston/bellaire-meyerland-west-university/government/2023/10/10/harris-county-commissioners-move-forward-with-plan-to-revitalize-nrg-park/?utm_campaign=Impact%3A Bay Area&utm_medium=email&_hsmi=277996572&_hsenc=p2ANqtz-9awro4JrkLDrI9jeJ6Q67xJkjNiV1RQHwOaVEPB_-kGBvRZXTVTwvygchb5QT5ivrg2cuPRctt-ClFNrbwAvtwFJXF-g&utm_content=277996572&utm_source=hs_email
  18. RREAF is seeking city council permission to add 278 homes on 63 acres adjacent to its Margaritaville resort development. https://www.galvnews.com/news/dallas-real-estate-firm-plans-278-homes-near-galvestons-east-beach/article_182b6a86-f2b2-5c4b-bb87-67c5abbd50ad.html
  19. I agree. Plus, if the parking needs are reevaluated in 5 years, 10 years, etc. and found to be lower than current capacity, parking space can be turned into other uses much easier than if the parking followed the perimeter of the site and wrapped around the buildings.
  20. Hopefully this will cool what seems to be one trustee's mission to kill the cruise terminal 4 project.
  21. Another plan to reimagine the Dome. This time as a sports entertainment village. https://abc13.com/astrodome-redevelopment-nrg-park-when-has-houston-hosted-super-bowl-stadium/13836055/#ln3al6ktjkqli1duby9
  22. The Wharves Board of Trustees will also be considering a CMAR contract at Tuesday's meeting for the fourth cruise terminal. There may be some drama here though as trustees have repeatedly delayed moving forward with the cruise terminal (and upgrades to an existing one) to chase a dream of additional cargo operations development despite cargo being on the decline in Galveston and tourism being on the rise (check the numbers in the agenda packet below and note Carnival's very recent plans to add another ship in Galveston). Just this year Del Monte has announced its exit (this is where cruise terminal no. 4 will go) and now the port has negotiated an early contract termination with ADM with potential plans to demolish the grain facilities. https://www.galvnews.com/news/agri-giant-adm-agrees-to-cease-port-operations-terminate-lease/article_8ce271c3-7a9a-52ac-8763-6ddc9a407dca.html
