  2. I'm not a fan of the first round pick because he's an LSU recruit. I'm hoping he decides the ladies in college are better than on the minor league bus tour for a few years.

Is that because LSU is a bad school, has bad recruiting or because Deshields Jr is not a good player to begin with?

Seems to have a good chance at being a good ball player.

    Like father, like son?

Astros win on Lee 10th Inning Slam

    Also update on draft signings

Astros sign eight more draft picks

  3. So what will happen to the smaller conferences like CUSA if or when there are 4 Super conferences?

Also I wonder if Baylor or Colorado will get in Pac-10?

  4. What "reforms" do you suggest?

If they're convicted, send them out of state, but I do agree that if they are still tied up in courts that they should have access to local counsel.

Expansion of house Arrest and pretrial services for non violent minor offenses. I read in the chron a while back how some inmates are in Harris County awaiting trial longer then the actual max sentence is for the crime commited

  5. These two projects are not mutually exclusive. HCTRA will develop any planned toll road that is toll-viable. If both roads are toll-viable, then they both get built. It has nothing to do with prioritizing certain non-financial factors over others; that's just the HCTRA following the legislatively-authorized rules that it is bound to.

They couldn't mention that in the article, of course, because it would mean that there's not a controversy.

For the record: there's not a controversy.

Fact, TxDOT has repeatedly told the public that the Hempstead Managed Lanes will be constructed before US-290 construction begins, to give people travel options and minimize disruption during construction.

Fact, Harris County has not committed to the managed lanes and Txdot has not clearly stated a plan B if the managed lanes are not built. The 290 project team has stated they have some ideas for temporary HOV lanes but not much will happen if anything.

    List of HCTRA Projects

IMO there's no project more toll-viable(Maybe the South Sam Houston widening)

In the interview, the woman said something about HCTRA reallocating funds away from Hempstead for some reason.

Robin Holzer"... Last year in June of 2009 Harris county cut there allocation for Hempstead in half to just a little over a billion dollars and they redirected most of that money toward construction of the proposed Grand Pkwy..."

    PDF Summary

    CTC Comments

"The current proposal for US-290 is predicated on concurrent plans for the Hempstead lanes. In its 2008 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), Harris County allocated $2.05 billion to the proposed Hempstead Managed Lanes over five years. However, in its 2009 CIP, Harris County cut the Hempstead allocation in half, to just $1.08 billion, despite only a 12% decrease in HCTRA’s overall budget from $5.2 billion to $4.6 billion

    ."

Note: It dose state "As of this writing, the public cannot know what Harris County’s Hempstead Lanes commitment will be in its 2010 CIP, scheduled for public hearing on June 22, 2010. It is unclear whether the County will restore its commitment to build the Hempstead project timely.

So maybe no controversy, after all, if the funding is allocated back to Hempstead come June 22, 2010. If not then sounds like a problem if the FEIS is based on Hempstead managed lanes being built 1st

  6. Or because he was a 'roided up douche? The Astros should have shopped Berkman last year. He's past his prime now and they need young talent in a bad way.

I would love to see Berkman stay in an Astros uniform ala Biggio and Bagwell, but I believe Berkman and Oswalt deserve to go somewhere they can contend while the Stros rebuild.

Who knows, maybe he really wasn't nice. He always seemed like a nice guy on camera.

Don't know if he was on roids or not, but would not be surprised if he was.

Bagwell and the question of steroids

I'd say have to agree with Justice. Is it possible he did yes(Steroids Era in Baseball) But compared to players like Clemens and Bonds Jeff seemed small to me especially standing next to Clemens.

Also what y'all think about the Astros draft picks? I like them considering the top 3 expect to sign.

A closer look at the Astros' picks

Top picks hope to sign with 'Stros

    First-round picks inclined to sign

The Astros pick 32 players through day two

  7. One of the main excuses for this thing is to improve traffic commutes on 290 -- even though there are far more cost effective (though not necessarily cheaper) way of doing just that. The worst thing about the Grand Parkway is that it will be taking away county resources from directly tackling the real, existing transportation problems we face. Planning for future growth is all well and fine, but you have to take care of the existing problems first. It's like stock investing -- you never start until you pay down your credit card debt. There are SO many other things that Judge Emmett and the gang should be worrying about before they try to tackle issues related to future growth.

The project has been shown on governmental planning documents since the early 1960's. Someone recently suggested using segment-E as a relief of 290, probably not a good suggestion, but Grand Pkwy has been planned for a while. Every time I go to Dallas I think im glad they are planning now instead of waiting untill devolopment dictates where infrastructure goes.

  8. There is a short stub at the south end of the red line going west, out Holmes Rd, for about a mile or so. Does anyone know why this section was built? It stops before reaching South Main.

I believe its part of the rail yard, shop facility. I think its used to repair/ test the trains before there put on the actual line.

  9. METRO doesn't call the new ones by color. interesting that former city controller (and current mayor AKA annise parker) has now hired former city controller george grenias to follow METRO dealings.

also the overpass over the current harrisburg underpass has been eliminated according to METRO spokespersons on east side in order to save 5 million. i guess the underpass that was too narrow is suddenly wide enough.

Interesting, how new voices changes things!!!
