Add to that, United has hubs in San Francisco (SFO), Denver (DEN) and Los Angeles (LAX) already. Add to that United's strong Asian service, and that is the best choice for Continental. Just hope the HQ stays in Houston (have heard from someone highly-placed, that works in the HQ Downtown that Continental would like to stay in Houston every way possible, but business is not 100% guaranteed).
  2. Do you realize that T-Mac has the highest point jump from the regular season to playoffs of any active NBA player?

I like that. Only thing is, United as a strong Asian presence. Something Continental does not have right now.
  4. Who the hell are you? You edit your post to add in that one last little sentence in the bottom about the Dynamo. Exactly. pestofan goes on acting like he knows what he is talking about and tries to put me down when I say it is too expensive. I wonder what his background on the subject is...

There are almost six million people in the metro, and with Houston growing twice as fast, as well as Texas' business climate, why wouldn't they just keep it here? Like I said earlier, the United CEO will be chief of operations (something like that). Why not have him just stay in Chicago, and CO Management gets to operate from home (Houston).
  6. Who the hell are you? Don't act like you know me. Cheerleading "rah rah" Houston on a Houston-based forum? How is me wanting a new stadium for the Dynamo have anything to do with Houston boosting? Why the Dome would not work? Too big. A complete renovation of the dome would have to happen for it to work, so why not build a new stadium? Especially one on a side of town that is going under a revitalization. Besides, what would it look like if you have 30,000 people in a stadium fit for 70,000? That's a horrible atmosphere and the place looks dead. Just look at teams that play in that environment. All want new stadiums. By the way, you design would be hella expensive. Just thinking about it. Removable grass field, complete renovation of the dome for 30,000 or so people, etc. That's just too much. Build a new stadium that would cost the same. The stadium could be used for concerts, outdoor boxing matches (don't forget Oscar De La Hoya's group is in this), regional high school football matches, among other things. That, and the Dome is going to be redeveloped into a hotel. Forget that?
  7. Karl Malone + John Stockton = ZERO rings! Hahahaha. Utah must realize that they have never one a championship.

As far as HQ goes, I say Houston for the merged company and Chicago for world operations. Especially since the Continental CEO will become the CEO of the merged company, and the United CEO will become the operational executive.

You really think Houston will not be a hub regardless of where the HQ is?
  10. The Alamodome was too big for the Spurs. They had a NCAA-type setup.

So Houston would get nothing? I say, keep the United name, but HQ is Houston.
  12. Generic, generic... What can you do? It's the suburbs. And Canyon Gate Katy is scary to some of you? . That is hella funny.
  13. That would be a nice storefront. Depending on what type of store, I like it.
  14. Isn't there already a thread on this that could have been updated? I think breaking it up into two different districts would be best. Have the "Cypress ISD" and "Fairbanks ISD". The district is so big and has like 130,000 students I think and growing by a few thousand every year. Also, Cypress is VERY crowded. I was out and about last Friday, and had to go through Cypress. Eldridge north of Clay....never, ever again at that time of day. It was like at any street you turned, there was more traffic. You would think that once you hit many of the big neighborhoods, people would start turning into them.
  15. Not even close to big city living I say.
  16. ^^You must not know about size and how big MLS stadiums are. Reliant and the Astrodome are EASILY out of the question. That, and the Dynamo need their own stadium for more revenue and such.
  17. Isn't Lake Houston on flat land.

I've seen different. A lot of industry insiders are saying the HQ will stay in Houston (from SkyscraperPage). Chicago can't match a friendly Texas business environment.

A merger would make Continental (I assume they keep the better Continental name), the largest airline in the world (by a pretty wide margin). Would be nice to have the HQ in Houston.
  20. They are major by US standards. There.
  21. Like these damn NBA and NFL players opting out because they want more money to "feed their kids". I really hate that excuse. These guys have millions (tens of millions) in the bank, but can't "feed their kids".
  22. Okay.. Just wait and you'll be surprised at the MLS in a few short years. There is a reason why many cities are designing new stadiums to lure a MLS team. There is a reason why it is the only league expanding and adding new teams. Houston should be happy it has a team (and two-time champions at that). Design them a nice, new modern stadium on the rail line.
  23. BLVD Place is under construction right? I think Regent Square will happen. It is one of those projects that goes through in phases, and not all at once like BLVD Place or Oaks District. That, and it is aiming for a more mixed crowd and not all upscale.
