  1. this is definitely not good news! I was looking forward to someone telling me that they were starting to get some dirt moving for construction in the next week. MAJOR LET DOWN! Hey largeTEXAS, did your sources tell you WHY the residential towers wouldn't work out? BTW: Semipiro is bathing in his laughter of him being right after all!
  2. Although was happy to see new retail development in the heights, I saw the target store and was fairly disappointed. I thought it was supposed to be a super target? Anyone know if it was scaled down?
  3. moved my post to the original discussion thread. Moderators please close this one, sorry for the inconvienience. PS: Thanks Htowngirl
  4. the website seems to be working again and has all the info. It must have been temporarily down yesterday.
  5. i don't know, i'm starting to get a little nervous myself. I just finished browsing on the Houston Pavilions site and noticed that the Project Timeline link had all the information taken out of it as well as the Contact information link. It used to have the e-mail adress posted as well as the phone # and adress info. I'm hoping that this isn't a BAD sign.
  6. OK! Trae. I have a very weak heart and am extremely gullible. don't play with me I know the setbacks are very frustrating and i wouldn't be surprised if the groundbreaking was set back again. I think Semiipro did a Semi 180 on us. At first he was saying the project wouldn't happen at all. Now he's saying groundbreaking will happen sometime next year. I'd say he's coming around !
  7. i wondered the same thing when i was last in Houston. The same building (Reliant Energy) that changes colors at night right? They still don't have them on? Dang, all the good stuff ceases to exist. I bet they kept all the buildings that use the same ol' Christmas lights on though! Hopefully the Houston Pavilions will do something to give the building owners a clue!
  8. You got it. I even posted my e-mail i sent to him but i replaced my name with my HAIF name. Now here's his reply
  9. jUST TO UPDATE EVERYONE: I just recvd an e-mail response from Mr. Denton himself He stated construction will begin this Fall, probably around the end of October. The delay was with the residential towers, which he stated was too complicated to go into. The Towers are back in the project and will be apartments for rent. Different than Denver which is all retail, Houston will be bigger (over 3 city blocks), and have retail, office and residential. Also Stated It will be completed in Fall 2008.
  10. i kinda hope they don't do the boardwalk concept in Galveston. It would take away from the uniqueness of the Kemah area. I hope something festive goes there , i just hope its not a duplicate of Kemah!
  11. i know this sounds evil, but you guys have to forgive me for hoping that Six Flags goes under. I hate what they're doing to Houston and other Southern Regions. I agree that it doesn't make sense to leave the one open in NO. New Orleans won't bring them any $ for a while , thus they should allow SixFlags to buy themselves out of the lease. However, the one up here in Denver seems to be doing fairly well because every time i pass by dt denver, the place looks pretty lively. It may be an optical illusion though. Last time i set foot in Elitch Gardens was highschool graduation in 1998.
  12. why does everyone seem to hate the lighting that adds color and shine to houston's skyline. In my opinion, i like the toyota center lighting. What Houston needs to get away from is the boring looking white christmas lights at night. I wrote a letter to the mayor about 2 years ago regarding this. I waisted my time.
  13. ^^either a huge mistake or just a cop-out for six flags not wanting to pony up the $$$ to improve the park.
  14. have any of you all been to the town center in Frisco just a few miles north of Dallas on highway 121? That place is the hugest shopping center i have ever seen. They have a mall surrounded by every shop, restaurant you can think of such as Wal Mart, Target, much retail and and even a Dave & Busters. Residents there never have to leave that area. I wonder if the planned shopping center in Pearland will be that big?
  15. I don't agree with this one bit, i think downtown should be open to all people to be a better place. It will also help draw in more activities for families as well. I think there should be some avenues that are open for teenagers, just not on main street. Maybe dedicate another street to family-filled oriented environments such as Ripleys, and other small tourist draws. Subdude, i think its a matter of perception as far as upscale. I visited the lucky strike on the 3rd floor of the Denver Pavilions and they used a lot of neon lighting, people were dressed pretty well, and the place looked very shiny and squeaky clean. Maybe those aren't the best examples of upscale but that was the impression i got.
  16. cool, they got one in the denver Pavilions too. Really nice and upscale
  17. I'm with CityKid09 on this one. You can't really get too excited about a park. What is going to be so special about this so called "urban" park in front of GRB. Westerngulf said earlier that there will be amentities to it. What amentities will be so special about this park as opposed to any other park near downtown? And what is really going to be so different about this park and the park that they built last year with the brand new basketball goals pretty close to Austin Street on the east side of downtown?
  18. more info on Hardy Rail Yards. not very recent though http://www.ctchouston.org/information/fact...ardyyards.shtml
  19. someone said that retail isn't apart of the plan either but i'm wondering why in that second rendering, there's people walking around like they're shopping?
  20. to answer your question, i happen to know at the Denver Pavilions, there's a skywalk that allows residents the option of crossing at street level w/ the cars or simply crossing over the bridge going over the street so the cars & traffic is not going to be a huge concern
  21. well with that being said, i hope they at least do something special for the downtown skyline for the NBA All-Star Game. There's gonna be famous celebs and things like that. Good comparison in Tierwestah's pics- the Dallas skyline looks way better and more colorful. But sorry Mods, even though i don't even live in Texas, please don't take it the wrong way because you all might consider that statement as "My city is better than your city".
