  1. i wouldn't say it totally dropped off the face of the earth but at least there's a website, i just wish it had more information though. http://www.wulfe.com/BoulevardPlace.asp
  2. Maybe when the Houston Pavilions gets built, maybe the building owners will realize that times are changing and need to update from using Christmas lights to decorate the buildings at night.
  3. you wouldn't say that if you saw Denver! Even Colorado Springs has matured quite a bit but to answer your question, both cities have their own shares of sprawl. Colorado Springs is like one huge suburb with much much housing and tourist parks. On the architecture side, it hardly has any landmark buildings, you have to go to Denver for that. Denver might have a lower population than Houston, but that still means nothing. Denver has a very vibrant Downtown and has other vibrant areas throughout the city and the entire metro. Denver is very progressive! And no. I wasn't turned off by Houston at all. I don't think Houston is ugly, it's actually very nice in many parts. And it has big, bold buildings throughout the city but no natural scenery, but i didn't see much scenery in any city i've been in Texas. Closest i got to natural scenery i'm used to seeing in Colorado was Austin. And i've never been to El Paso or West Texas but i hear they have mountains. The reason i didn't come to Houston is because my job was opening up two locations in Texas: Dallas and Houston. I have family in Houston so i was trying to come to Houston. And plus from my past visits, i felt Houston to be the most exciting city in Texas. However, my job didn't select me to come to Houston so i'm stuck in Pleasantville/Mayville (as you call it) city of Colorado Spgs. Probably be stuck here for the rest of my life! But anyway moving on from off-subject stuff- Houston Pavilions: It will be great for dt Houston .
  4. i don't mean this as an attack but is it me or does Midtowner's posts usually contain a lot of negative vibes toward this city? Midtowner, i understand Houston is not a perfect place but if you hate it so much, what's keeping you. Jobs do transfer if that's your reason.
  5. Very True! Take it from a resident of Colorado- Colorado has about 5million in the whole state! 2.5 million sits in the Denver metro area and Colorado Springs, where i live, is about half a million and is the second largest city in the state. The next on the list is Pueblo which is about 150,000, just a little bigger than Witchita Falls TX. In Fact, Aurora, Lakewood, and Westminster allo have populations considerably bigger than Pueblo's, but they fall in the Denver Metro Area, so they're not really counted as separate. My point being, is Houston MSA, being considerably larger should have competitive retail and transportation options that should be at least comparable to a city like Denver's, which is half the size. Denver is still ahead in those venues but i see Houston quickly catching up. As far as the people and diversity, Houston definitely has that over Denver. The thing that makes me mad about Houston more than anything is their forever expanding freeway system and failure to implement more rail.
  6. this will definitely redefine the urban core of dt houston. i just hope it will spark the minds of better transit options. Denver's light rail is currently underconstruction all the way down from downtown Denver all the way pretty much throughout along the entire metro alongside interstate 25 running north and south. That was all i really noticed under construction but i'm sure there's more routes. It's a shame that a city as big as Houston which is at least 2-3 times the size of Denver is having so much trouble getting a extensive, reliable transportation option such as: more rail.
  7. Man, i'm so excited about this for Houston, makes me wanna try to move down there again like i was considering doing in 2004. I live about an hour away from Denver and everytime i go up to Denver to chill, i see all the excitement going on at 16th Street MAll. The Denver Pavilions is the big focal point there, it's been the focus of alot of stores coming to 16th Street Mall such as The Paramount Cafe, WolfGang Puck (No big deal), Virgin Records, Nike Town, ESPN Zone and all other sorts of restaurants and retail just bustling to the heart of downtown Denver. It's exciting to watch a city like Houston in the making to progress. I'm so excited for Houston all the way up here in Colorado so much i might just be ComingtoHouston again real soon. Oh and... what's wrong with that? Houston doesn't get talked about enough as it is, i say any kind of recognition whether it be tourist or the other, i say is a greater stride for Houston to becoming a world class city.( Just my 2 pennies! )
  8. why would you move to Atlanta when Houston is only an hour away from you? Houston has everything Atlanta has, probably more!
  9. forgive me for being a little ignorant, but what does hodgepodge mean?
  10. You know, when i was considering moving to Houston in 2004, i have to admit that i was not impressed with Houston Intercontinental AT ALL. I mean, i live about an hour from Denver so i think the world of Denver's Airport, partly because its the newest in the country. When i arrived in terminal A of IAH, i thought, this airport looks like a 1970s style airport. Dallas- Ft. Worth's airport is really nice too, but not as sleek and shiny as Denver's. My overall impressions of IAH changed this last time i flew into the Airport. I came down to Houston recently to visit some relatives for New Years and they weren't even ready to pick me up, so i decided to tour the airport. I rode the little train and rode all the way to the newest Terminal E. Everything i would've expected to find in Denver International Airport, i found on this side of IAH. I mean that terminal is gorgeous. IT has many seafood restaurants and bars and cool neon lighting in that side. Quite frankly, i think that part of the airport might even pass up DIA by a slim margin, but maybe i'm just getting overexcited for Houston. I walked a long way and they were rennovating parts of the airport and then i ended up in Terminal D. Terminal D is nice too, although not quite as nice as Terminal E, but it was very nice, it still had much of the same lighting feaures, gift shops, restaurants. I left there very impressed! IAH seems like its improved vastly and is more organized. The last time i was in this airport, they didn't even have a train (Or it wasn't operational.) What is IAH trying to do? Maybe they were already doing this 2 years ago and i just didn't look long or far enough. Is IAH doing some major rennovation or upgrades expecting to attract more airlines? because my whole opinion changed, IAH even looks good on the outside. I think the Marriot Hotel could stand to do some painting though because that beige color is a little on the bland side. But other than that, good job IAH I put you on the same level as DIA now!
  11. i have to say that i'm a little shaky of this project. I'm nervous that it's just going to be an added statistic to Houston's many failed proposed projects. I don't see any signs that the project is moving along. But i'm trying to stay positive because i have so many high hopes for Houston.
  12. i know and i think if enough of us get together and adress this issue to a higher party, maybe something might get done. The only people on this board i know of who actually tried to address this issue are greystone08 and largeTX. I think if enough of us got together and complained, it might make more of a difference. greystone08 told me through a PM that Mayor White wrote him back and said that he wasn't the person to adress the issue of lighting the buildings. Robert Eury with Central Houston is the one who works with things of that nature. However, Mayor White did forward his letter to Robert Eury and Robert Eury replied. I just really have a problem with the way some of the buildings are lit at night. The White Christmas bulb lightings have got to go! It looks outdated, tacky, and when it's not Christmas time, it looks so out of season. I wish the building owners of those buildings that use this scheme would get a clue!
  13. I kind of agree with THE KID on this one. La Marque doesn't strike me as a very fascinating place to open a theme park. The only benefit i see is it would be very close in proximity to many other Houston Area tourist attractions like those in Galveston, NASA, and Kemah Boardwalk, which might be a little more visitor friendly. But i would rather see a booming Suburb like Katy or Sugarland get the park!!!
  14. i personally don't see what all the griping is about. Downtown and the rest of the city seems to be doing just fine. There are projects going up all around the city like the TMC development, Galleria/UT development, Downtown/Midtown, Town and Country, NASA/Clearlake, and other cities around Houston like Sugarland, Pearland, The Woodlands, Katy, and Galveston. Public transportation could be improved alot but development in the city is trucking along quite smoothly. Anyone have any information if there's going to be anything like people movers or shuttle services with the Pavilion project like the free shuttle in Denver that goes along the 16th street Mall?
  15. my favorite http://www.houstonian.freeservers.com/cgi-...ridge.jpg i also like this one too http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y185/mrell32/th_54rst7j.jpg
  16. i'm with you VelvetJ but can you elaborate on what you mean by Houston being afraid to take chances? I kind of see it but i would like more examples. One of the examples i'm aware of is the freeway system. This illustrates to me on how Houston isn't forward thinking due to this lack of mass rapid transportation. It seems like Houston can't move away from freeways. That's the only thing it knows to do because that's what worked in the past, thus Houston is safe with freeway expansion rather than implemeting newer transportation options. Why not a small subway or monorail? Do something a little different Houston.
  17. Because the Angelika Films has a limited selection and doesn't play Box Office Movies and won't draw various types of crowds. Trust me, we need another movie theatre.

  19. NOT TO SOUND IMPATIENT BUT CAN SOMEONE ANSWER MY QUESTION CUZ I'M CURIOUS. Are they still going to build Boulevard Place???
  20. GREAT! that's just what we need. That'll be just one more thing that Houston will be lacking. I sure hope they build another park. SOON. Because sorry to say but you can't go to any major city and not have a major theme park. Then the city will be like one big Colorado Springs, big and boring!!! I'm not happy about this at all!!!
  21. Do you all think this hurricane KATRINA could possibly have an impact on Houston so much that it could possible delay this Pavilion project ?
  22. Hopefully, if the Houston Pavilions project gets off the ground gets built, it will encourage a little more colorful " glitz" for downtown at night away from the crumby christmas light scheme currently. That would definitely make the place look a little more exciting.
