  1. One thing Beck does that others ON BOTH sides of thetalking heads is that he will call out stupidity when he sees it from the right or the left. He actually went after Bush back in '05-'06 about quite a few of his policies while Limbaugh, Hannity, and others were still giving group hugs. \uring the election seasons, he has consistantly had Republicans, Democrats AND Independents on his program and then dared every one of them to call out what their respective parties have done wrong. Sorry, you can't get much more impartial than that. Having read his book "An inconvienent book", he gave blistering comments on both sides of the global waming update. As far as I know, he hasn't made up his mind on the topic, but he was leaning that something IS happening, but that it isn't man made and brought scientists in from both sides to try to convince him. After I have tried to listen to air america for several weeks, it was all they could do but blame every single bit of bad news on the Republican party and refused to acknowledge any differing viewpoints. The only way to get to the truth on any topic is to listen to all sides of a debate and make your decision that the truth is somewhere in the middle. To simply go down ideological lines in something you're for or against simply means you are a puppet of that particular party and that makes you no better than the talking heads you're accusing of being liars. I'm a moderate conservative that throws stones at both sides, and if you believe everything I said is BS, then go join your friends in A Qaeda if you're unable to listen to an opposing view.
  2. Really? I think its much better. Perhaps you'd feel better if they bashed some walls in and broke a window or two?
  3. Actually, Bibas doesn't own Ones a meal, he simply owned the building. Being a semi regular there, they explained the entire drama going on with them and Biba. I think the food has improved a bit, while the "charm" of the old building annoyed me and almost broke my ankle a few times, the new place is better. Bibas is currently trying to open up a OAM's old spot to some sort of eatery and has been spending quite a bit of money to modernize it and fix the stuff that he neglected over the years.
  4. Right now it's the walkway of death. it's heading towards the mall, but can't quite picture where it's going to connect. I keep picturing a real life version of the game "Lemmings" creatures falling off the end of that thing.
  5. Thanks for sharing, Ed! Love second pic of the BC place and the pedestrian bridge! Now, for a world class city, you'd figure they would BURY THE ELECTRICAL WIRES UNDERGROUND.....but that's just me.
  6. Citizen I THINK is still operating, and if it is, it's getting good overflow from Blue Label and Bronx bar. The biggest thing is the "aging" of the club go-ers. I imagine a place would still be "hot" but as they age, they probably wanna go to a more "Mature" place or stop going altogether. I was the same way when I was younger, I stopped going at about 25 when I was starting to feel like a pedophile when some of the "new" blood walked in.
  7. Didn't even know there WAS a sushi joint on Washington! Anyone wants to start a pool on which bars will fail first or how long they will last? I predict Drake will the first to crash and burn, followed by "Reign." Edit: Spelling
  8. Not sure if replacing the entire water-heater would be necessary, but if it should be, go tankless.
  9. Is Phil's going to be a legit BBQ place? Brixx. Eh. Lousy name, what gets me is "SHOTZKY" sounds like it should be more for wanna be russian Guido's than a country bar!
  10. I totally agree with some of the "other" candidates are just a bit on the loony side, but I think that even the loons would disappear once the contribution took hold and started to weed out the far left and right wingers.
  11. I agree with marksmu up to a point: 1: How DID he call Iran's bluff? All he did was put out a photo of a plant and said, "hey! look what we found?" He backed down from the missile defense program in the region that are supposed to protect our ally's from them in the region, because RUSSIA took it as a threat. The UN has yet to do anything even remotely effective (aside the sanctions, with some European nations seem to overlook and by pass) and since China and Russia are major voters, they're NOT going to go against Iran (or North Korea for that matter). 2: These plots were formed at least several months before Obama took office. They were caught with the help of Pres. Bush's guidelines on what can be done for intelligence which STILL hasn't been changed by new administration (Yet). 3: He has done nothing that Bush has done previously and is merely carrying forward what Bush has done. Try again. 4: Totally agree with Marksmu with this. He didn't warn the pirates off. He didn't say anything telling the pirates this WILL be done in the future. Obama had a chance to appear strong against bullies and he blew it. 5: The reason why he appears strong is because there isn't much further that can be done in that direction. Bush totally blew it with China, there is no doubt about that, but he is certainly going in the right direction. Question is: what is he going to do if china starts pushing back? Force all American industries there to come back home? It's something that has happened in the past. Remember how everything was Clinton's fault (Disclosure: I am still a fan of)? Even Somalia was his fault. Though, it was the REPUBLICANS that beat the drums to actually get out of the country (another major mistake, in my opinion). As far as I can remember, they were blaming Clinton for failing to kill OBL, his foreign (which I mostly approved) and domestic policies (excellent stuff overall) all the way into Bush's second term.
  12. This thread needs a poll. A: I don't post when drinking on HAIF. B: I drink while I'm on HAIF. C: I drink BECAUSE of HAIF. D: I don't drink, I got HAIFy dreams because of LSD.
  13. From what I read, it was mostly because of the "unneeded" costs that were associated with the added equipment. "Tucker" was the first car that was far ahead of it's time when it came to safety. If he was successful, the others would have been forced to keep up and the history of the car would have been a bit different. Pity he was run out of business.
  14. I didn't mean to put you in that nest of nuts, sorry. I've been hearing more conspiracy nuts about 9/11 lately and it's just gotten on my nerves. A week is still not enough to drill into a STABLE building of that size. Any drilling into columns, assuming it was a simple implosion, would have been too hazardous to do a proper job with. Does anyone remember how long it took to wire the Montague for explosives?
  15. Despite what the 9/11 "truthers" believe, it takes more than a few hours, or even a few days, to do a proper implosion. Besides, this building would have been too far gone to allow workers to safely implant explosives.
  16. And what's wrong with that? Do you think Families should exclusively raised in single family homes? How odd that New york, Paris, London, and Tokyo has so few of them. The east end has been largely a blue collar/working class area with some minor industry within it (if you call "Hughes" minor industry). I don't think that's going to change for several generations. Midtown was mostly empty until 10 years ago with the latest additions in various stages of completion and is now thriving. East end has been thriving for generations, developers can't easily just buy up large tracks of land, but I'm sure individual lots might change over time to something that would resemble small multi-story apartment brownstones.
  17. I agree, it was a total rant. Really had to lower my ratings to "strongly disapprove" because of his "discussions" for future discussions with Iran. Another president taking the bait. The decent into the dollar didn't begin with President Obama, it started about 6 or 7 yrs ago, and it'll take at least that long for it to make a comeback...IF things start happening right now.
  18. Don't know jack, but I if you pick #1 or #2, please keep track (with plenty of photos) of the project. It would be fun to see. I met one guy who did it and he said that they feel more "comfortable" in the original part of the house (Which was raised) and he was glad he did it. Of course, he didn't get into all the details about how long it took or anything, we were too busy drinking beers. the only thing that he said about it is his wife wanted to keep the original part. You know, If momma is happy...
  19. I don't understand Musicman's objection to it. I've known a number of people that have gone and have enjoyed the food. I'm quite adventurous enough to go there, but I would keep an open mind as I scan the menu (which changes) for anything that would seem promising. 888 is okay, but it's not the end all to chinese food in the Houston Area.
  20. In the short term, I don't think anything major will happen except for a few townhomes and apartment complexes in the area within 5 or so years. What I hope after 10yrs is that some smart developer will develop a few blocks near the stations that would resemble the Post apartments near the stations with ground level retail (Bars, Quickie mart, and other goods and services), but not be quite as expensive. The homes might "change" a bit after that. The older homes might eventually give out to more dense development, but that may not be in my lifetime.
  21. There is something to be said about licking bare floors....just not in that David Hasselhoff way.
  22. The question is; Has Mayor White endorsed anyone? I haven't heard if he has or not.
  23. LOL. A little suggestion then, when you're about to post; REDUCE the font a bit for us with delicate eyes.
  24. Is there a way to put up a poll on this? It would be interesting to see how closely it matches up to the outcome of the actual election. As I said on another thread, Parker might as well be off my shortlist for Mayor.
