  1. People who use bike lanes in car oriented urban environments need to be placed in institutions where they are no longer a threat to public safety or to themselves. Driving in Houston without killing anyone is hard enough!
  2. It seems like in every new photo that someone post of Houston, the more the downtown, uptown and TMC skylines look like one giant mega skyline. Every day these skylines seem to get closer and closer to each other. Houston is growing out, up and in. Very cool pic.
  3. Just before AstroWorld was closed, it looked very much like what Six Flags over Texas looks like today. Faded paint, dirty, terrible customer service and neglect. Many rides standing but not operating and very short lines. It's almost as trashy as the State Fair in dallas. I just went to Six Flags in dallas and it was pathetic. Rotted wood, rusted paint, overgrown lawns and tall weeds. Once Six Flags was beautifully maintained. It's really sad today. I hope Grand Texas does not follow the same path - if they ever build it.
  4. Can you give a few examples of well founded information that swtig has given on this forum? I'm talking about info that can ACTUALLY be verified.
  5. Homeless people like parks. They will love this park the most. This park is a game changer.
  6. All that counts is that everyone else likes it.
  7. Now I get it. Art centers are nice and all, but nothing is more important than rotisserie chicken. I guess Midtown will never be a relevant neighborhood until Walmart comes in.
  8. I hope Midtown gets more art and less fart. More artists, less fatties. Nothing more pathetic than grocery store enthusiasts talking about melons and peanut butter - especially on this thread.
  9. How often do ideas that are presented in design competitions actually get built? Are there any examples?
  10. SF is the poster child for stubborn elitists who are stuck in their own ways. SF didn't get where they are today by allowing 'anything' to happen. That is what Houston is famous for, remember? SF is so regulated and restricted that the middle class can't even exist there. People go there to spend money. People come here to make money.
  11. How exactly? What tangible things will we get that we don't already have? What specifically do we need as a city that can only be gained through self promotion? Tourism? More super bowls? Maybe. As someone who loves Houston, improving Houston's image through promotion might make me feel better, but I don't see how it would make the city better or more successful. I think we should concentrate on improving the visual landscape before we start promoting ourselves. Otherwise, it just might backfire. Let's start with demolishing everything that exist along the freeways from the airports to downtown. It makes me ill when I think what people who have never been to Houston before must think of Houston while driving down 45, Hardy or 59. Improve that and Houston's image improves with it - so does the quality of life for the residents.
  12. If everyone knew how great Houston was, this city would have the best economy in America and the fastest population growth in the country. Wait. We already do. I don't understand how image promotion is going to make Houston more successful. We are already successful. I think the city should concentrate on quality of life issues like improving parks, beautifying the overall landscape and improving mass transit. I can see how it would be fun to brag about how great we are, but I don't see how a greater media presence or improving our image would actually improve Houston or get us anywhere.
