Looks like the love child of 5 Houston Center and Symphony Tower in Atlanta.

Is this related in any way to the Embassy Suites project? Or is it another one?

They do sell small quantities of food and coffee at a Walgreens. And medicine on top of that! Perhaps a Walgreens would've been preferable? In fact, screw all restaurants and coffee shops. Walgreens is all we need from now on, sayeth BuilderGeek.

Or a CVS, even! They now have ATMs in some locations!

Personally, I'd like to see them try to outdo the St Luke's Tower. A giant catheter, maybe?

I kind of wish the Med Center had a bit more residential. I kind of doubt that will happen though, but I would like to live there if it did. And I'm not talking about the Astrodome area that people call "Medical Center" when they are trying to sell condos and apartments.

Yes, I agree; I love the "unique" energy and vibe the Med Center has. perhaps a mixed use development of some sort would be proper (I've seen some proposals a while back, but they never really took a foothold; one of particular interest was at the intersection of Fannin and Braeswood, if that's close enough to the TMC).

Furthermore, I hope they integrate more retail space into the new buildings, as the options seem to be far and few at the moment; AFAIK, the only real "retail hub" seems to be where the Starbucks, Subway, Chipotle, etc are.

Looks like they "borrowed" a few of the majestic oaks from Fannin/Main near the Museum district. I love it.

So is the 55 story addition like a sure thing? That sure would be neato to see. Is there a rendering of it yet?

There is a reserved page for it on Emporis at the moment, so I'm guessing that it would be a go (hopefully).

As long as they don't pop out another boring(but still decent) box like 1000 Main, I'll be happy. Gensler seems to have a knack for designing boring structures around here (if I am not mistaken, 1000 main, and the Anadarko Tower in The Woodlands). Some of their new works in Hong Kong and DUbai are interesting, though.

I remember eating at the Wyatt's at the old Westwood Mall, back in the day, when I was a kid(The early 90's). It was located just off of the main entrance of the mall (the big glass thingy).

Personally, I have always preferred the Kohn Pedersen Fox proposal over the competition victor, designed by Jahn; it looks too similar to the Liberty Place towers in Philadelphia, also done by Jahn.

Two of your three sites are in the wrong locations. Your blue marking should be on the parking garage just to the north (the one that is attached to 1400 Smith via skywalk). Your orange marking should be even further north and a little west, just to the north of the parking garage that has the racquet club on top (the black-ish rectangle at the upper left area of your image. I would mark an image for you, but I don't know how to do that. :-(

Judging from the descriptive language on the Roche Dinkeloo website, that design appears to be a for a past project that is not happening. ("The design was for two buildings on a single block, with the entrances to the central atrium lobby marked by monumental columns. The buildings, of varying heights, would have produced a strong identity on the Houston skyline. The exterior was to have been a graphically delineated skin of glass and smooth stone with the structure tapering upward to the stepped pyramidal tops.

I'm probably the only person who still wears Rugby shirts, distressed baggy cargo pants, and Doc Martens(older pairs made in England; not the crappy new Chinese ones). Oh, and of course, no one else wears Eddie Bauer anymore, either. Heck, I have some 15 year old t shirts from EB (that I gladly took from my dad, who never wears em anymore, anyway). They still look better than most of the graphic tees these days that fall apart after like 3 months.

I nothing people going in and out of this place earlier this morning. is anything going on with this property?
