And HISD cancelled classes for this? Ft. Bend ISD was open and teaching students katy ISD was open and teaching students humble ISD was open and teaching students spring Branch ISD was open and teaching students. IMO, HISD should be ashamed that they failed their students again.

new bike paths around town
UtterlyUrban replied to samagon's topic in Bicycles and Other Low-Impact Modes
This is great! If they can now connect to the trails already in EaDo (yes, I typed it) then someone could ride from (for instance) Shepherd drive to Herman park all on bike trails, correct? Or, Herman to the heights? -

The website does not say “restoration” and they just might be building new but in a certain style. According to their website: A beautiful, open Art Deco space- 234 replies

Given that I have $12 to my name, international money transfers are not my forte. That said, there are a host of international money laundering treaties/restrictions, reporting of foreign bank accounts, etc as well as “foreign currency” transaction restrictions (China) that likely play a role. That said, I read somewhere that countries — UK I think (US too?) are requiring a host of disclosures on foreign real estate buyers since governments see what is going on —- a significant amount of this is not “free flow of capital” but “laundering” and some are cracking down.

The global boom in real estate is also driven by folks who need to get their money out of its native currency. Asset appreciation is not especially important. Even losing some money isn’t important. What is important is having a tangible asset that is priced in a few stable currencies. if you are a Russian or Chinese billionaire who has executed Balzac perfectly: “Behind every great fortune lies a great crime”, Then, getting your money out of Rubbles or RMB and into a tangible asset priced in dollars (or pounds) is very important.

And that is likely the most generous thing that can be said about it. -

Agreed...... as soon as the owners flatten the current shell, the empty lot that remains would make a great art gallery enclosed in a lovely new building. -

If the second Amazon HQ comes here, Amazon workers will have a choice: 1) constant rain or 2) constant heat. at least they would get consistency.

Holy Fajita, Batman! Irma’s is going up market! If the actual restaurant turns out anything like this, you will find me on the patio every Saturday afternoon. I’ll be the guy with the sunglasses and a smile.- 911 replies

Today is Tuesday. If this were China, that 150 acre plot of raw land would be 100% built and ready for occupancy by Friday. Of course, no one would be living there but that is another story all together!

Texaco Building (now The Star) At 1111 Rusk Street
UtterlyUrban replied to editor's topic in Downtown
Here is one of the original renderings..... Solid panel connecting to the building, vertical “brick” pillars. Tall top cap. Glass edge pool. GFR. “Solid” cladding material (vs. this “corrugated” stuff). -

Is “better than hideous” really any better? is this the structure that they originally proposed to put a new tower on top of? I think not. -
And the totals with this storm were much higher and the flooding, while huge, was actually "not that bad" (my apologies to anyone who was flooded) considering the rain that we received. My point is that with 30"-48" of rain, the infrastructure actually did its job. While the infrastructure unfortunately flooded many, it saved most. Again, I apologize to anyone who had to evacuate or flooded or both. I am not trying to belittle your struggle.

Wow! That's big news! Thanks Tigereye and CREguy! Tigereye: if it's a downtown company already then occupancy rates in the CBD will stay the same. That's too bad, I was hopeful it would be a new tenant so occupancy would go up. when will the name of the new tenant be public? -

Wow, guys. I have never cosndered taking a vacation "10 blocks away". But, I guess it really doesn't matter if the staycation is 10 blocks or 10 miles. Same concept. Glad you enjoyed!
