  1. Hey, I'm a Prole. So, I can assure you, Proles don't go to the Opera. That's why we have football (and beer).
  2. Unless the entire pane falls out of the window frame. Did that happen here?
  3. I guess that I don't understand what is going on in the pictures. What is the fire department doing?
  4. I hope that the city goes to the mat on this one. The folks who own this building should be ashamed.
  5. I do very much hope that this property leases up in line with owner expectations!
  6. Personally, I am happy to see vibrant businesses of all types. There is a lot of land in midtown and some if it is getting turned into residential. A few successful, reputable new car dealerships that bring lots of good jobs for skilled maintenance technicians, salespeople, managers, and admin folks to midtown cause me no issues. My guess is that the local eateries love it too --- more folks to come over for lunch.
  7. Don't bother. I asked my (second generation) Asian-American friend. Answer: "yes. Those are Chinese characters."
  8. Excuse me, but you have been giving "profound critiques" on this property since BEFORE construction started. You have been profoundly effusive in this thread DURING construction. I have a sneaky suspicion that if I had said: "my gawd, this is the most delicious and stunning pool that I Have ever seen! This hotel is munificent in its appearance and, dare I say, elegance. Look at how luxuriously simple the lines of the pool are! Where others have kitsch, this is a clean and calming oasis suitable for the world-class hotel that it is!" that you would have liked the post, quoted me, and told me how correct I was. The fact that it's still under construction would never have entered the dialog. So, how about this: I think the pool deck looks like a Hampton Inn. You think that they will trot out something magnificent in the next couple of weeks. Maybe even something that will look like all those resort pictures you have posted. Ok, I'll wait.
  9. I'm sure that they will lug out some chairs and loungers. But, no other amenities (bar, fire pits, etc). Now, with all of your postings of amazing resorts, including many resort pools from around the world, can you legitimately tell me that this pool will look anything like those (or the 4 seasons a block away for that matter)?
  10. This building is a visual disappointment and the potted stubby shrubbery by an otherwise barren pool -- seemingly devoid of any amenity other than a rectangular concrete hole with water in it --- that seems more suitable to a Hampton Inn looks anything but "luxe".
  11. I hated this building. The design of it and the green and, just about everything else. i just shows that even an old, fat, bald guy can change his mind.
  12. I guess I don't understand. I can see that there is an easement running along the street. It doesn't look like you are building over that. The part I don't understand is that you are saying that there is an easement under the entire driveway? That doesn't make sense to me. It seems that there is no easement on either side of the driveway. I must not be reading this plan correctly (doesn't surprise me, might as well be Greek). Sorry that I can't help except to say: "are you reading this correctly?"
  13. Welcome. I think that you will find this place a terrific source for information.
  14. Man, that's a lot of work to put that together! Good resource! Feel free to add Shula's and Edgars Hermano if you wish. I see that you already added Spindeltop and have other places like Quattro on this list. Bayou and Bottle (4 seasons) is open 7 days I believe. Part and parcel Whitehall is open saturdays only, I think.
  15. What is that big pile of dirt in the back?
  16. Are you actually serious? I didn't bother to comment on much your "trains" thread because I figured you just were having an odd time of it that week. I now agree with others and will simply ignore you as you seem to enjoy being perceived as groundlessly provocative with baseless arguments.
  17. It it "near impossible to miss" Shula's and Benihana on your mythical journey. So, you are wrong. Sorry.
  18. Oh, I see, we now need to pick specific spots on specific roads only and travel in one specific direction only. Is that what you do when you travel to a new city? Ok, I'll bite (pun intended). Let's play....... Now this mythical visitor is likely likely not constrained by the concept of "downtown and midtown" she is just hungry. So, she walks south a block or two and find a number of places to eat. However, if she is absolutely unable to veer her coarse because she is born to a Manarch Butterfly or something, she is of the generations that can only travel north --- and just like a monarch she stays on smith and hits restaurants in the Whitehall, the Hyatt (which include Shula's), within a few blocks and if she is really adventurous she could patter her wings 5 feet off smith and go to Benihana (open noon-dinner on Saturday and Sunday). Now, let's leave our poor butterfly alone. She needs to find some milkweed. Oh, and yes, she won't find that within 3 blocks on Smith. Downtown is dead. No milkweed. Poor butterfly.
  19. While I would agree with your sentiment, Actually, I would say that "it's not hard to find" is wrong. Rather, I would revise that and say that "it is near impossible to miss".
