Eastwood Neighborhood Real Estate
mollusk replied to EastwoodCruisin's topic in EaDo, the East End, and East Houston
The term is "remuddleing," right? -
One can only hope that the Katy Freeway BRT won't really end in the middle of the Katy Freeway HOV lane flyover.

Bridge Over Brazos St. At Spur 527

To the extent we ever got them, they've been reallocated. Of course, these are long lead time projects so it's impossible to snap your fingers and bring them to immediate full fruition.

Bridge Over Brazos St. At Spur 527

Smith, two blocks east, will still be an entrance to the spur, now with no cross traffic from Bagby. 💁♂️ -
new bike paths around town

The buffer is great for planting trees, which calm traffic and make walking or cycling more pleasant (that whole shade thing). -
Bridge Over Brazos St. At Spur 527

Are you sure that more secret tunnels aren't being built as we speak? How would anyone other than us Mole People know about them? -
Bridge Over Brazos St. At Spur 527
mollusk replied to trymahjong's topic in Traffic and Transportation
Milam and Smith provide the lion's share of the traffic going to the Southwest Freeway; Louisiana and Travis have always taken practically all of the northbound traffic. The reality is that Brazos and Bagby don't connect well to downtown. Brazos dies at the south end of Allen Center, and Bagby is a rambling indirect cluster between Pierce and Dallas. Taking it out of the theoretical, the bridge to Brazos has now been closed for months without any noticeable negative effect. -
Washington DC to NYC is a bit over 200 miles, as is NYC to Boston. Amtrak Acela takes about the same time as driving from Houston to Dallas to make those trips (its average speed is roughly 85 mph WAS - NYC and 66 mph NYC - BOS), yet retains a pretty robust schedule. The business case for an hour and a half for the same distance +/- seems pretty clear.

DeLay''s district included most of the University Line. Most of the Harris County portion of it was later redistricted to the 7th. And don't get me started on MayorBob.

Niels Esperson Building, Partial Conversion To Multifamily
mollusk replied to MidtownCoog's topic in Downtown
In the "yesterday's news tomorrow" column, Martin Disiere moved into the Neils around ten years ago. Perhaps the announcement was of their renewal. 🤷♂️ -
Let's not forget Culberson's predecessor, Tom DeLay. And FWIW, it was one single neighborhood that the line was re routed to bypass.

Make Federal Buildings Beautiful Again
mollusk replied to lockmat's topic in Architects, Developers, Builders, and Designs
Brutalist managed to run its course on its own a decade or three ago; likewise post modern as expressed by things like pasting on giant decorations. Besides, imposing arbitrarily detailed rules just causes people charged with following them to come up with ways to follow the letter while ignoring the "spirit." -

Yep - that's why 515 Rusk (the Bob Casey courthouse) has exterior walls that are a couple feet thick and very small windows. Back in the day it had Civil Defense shelter signs as well. -
Is it? They kinda taste the same...

Well, traffic on Yale does now bite...

If you've seen one side, you've seen all four. It was completely symmetrical, and about as inviting as your average grocery store parking lot.

Me too, Avassos... but I'm still going to miss that round escalator pod (I know, space limitations, ADA, etc., etc.)

I-45 Rebuild (North Houston Highway Improvement Project)
mollusk replied to ToryGattis's topic in Traffic and Transportation
I live within spitting distance of Triton, and have attended a bunch of the meetings over a very long time as well. Some very small changes on the structural side (TxDOT's responsibility) can make a huge difference to the final result - we're not talking about placing the ferns here. There are a bunch of such issues in the segment between 610 and 10, and in particular between Cavalcade and White Oak/Quitman.- 3,370 replies

Feh... who needs a main library anyway?

Funny - they're substituting in white and grey just as brown is starting to return (as breathlessly revealed by the fishwrap the Chron yesterday).
