There were so few good dining options in the GOOF that people would jump all over anything that opened north of 610.  Cottonwood, Crowbar, Petrol Station, Shep Park Draught House, slow Pokes and Plonk all have done very well in GOOF.  But the Liberty Kitchen tried to be a bit too pricey to get families with a pile of kids to have dinner on a week night and too close to the Heights location to pull in anyone south of 610.  I am not a big LK fan, but it was a really nice build out and could still work in the right hands.

Leo Doyle's vision of a restaurant has made many a dollar in Oak Forest over the last 60 years. It can be done, and the place doesn't have to be "hip" to be successful in the dual Oaks. The old blue haired clientele sure know it's there.    http://doylesofhouston.com/

GOOF...I like that. I've known a good number of goofs from Garden Oaks/Oak Forest over the years.

It's a brewery that has been in the planning stages for years.

At the Houston meeting, I met folks from some breweries that are about to open, like Under the Radar Brewery and Town in City Brewing Company , and Industry Brewing, which is in the planning stages.  The Houston brewing scene is definitely on the rise!

      Done-zo.

Seeing as how 85% of Houstonians couldn't point to Garden Oaks on a map, I'm skeptical of the idea that GO/OF will be the next hot dining destination.

    From Swamplot:

5 months after a grand reopening to celebrate the end of road construction along Alba Rd. that had been hindering access to the restaurant, Liberty Kitchen Garden Oaks has shut down. Last night was its last meal. The restaurant had opened at 3715 Alba Rd. in June 2016, taking over a renovation of the property (and demolition of an adjacent Quonset hut to make room for parking) originally intended to house a Facundo Restaurante. “We debuted a new menu, a new beer garden and a new parking lot in an effort to revitalize patronage” after the road construction ended earlier this year, write the owners of Liberty Kitchen. But that wasn’t enough, and Hurricane Harvey “served as an additional financial hurdle company-wide.”

  19. A bunch of content, posts, renderings posted in this thread from me over the years were removed in the mass deletion of over five years worth of content from me. I wasn't able to save much from this thread, but did save this post I made back in March.

The post speculated  a restaurant from Paul Qui is likely opening at Post HTX or Post Houston ( or maybe  it's  Post). This is the site of the former Barbara Jordan U.S. Post Office at 401 Franklin St in downtown Houston. I later posted in May about a Qui & Kirby Lui (developer with Lovett Commerical) out together and it could be a sign Qui is signing on for a spot at Post HTX (a post Eater Houston picked up and reported):

Well, I was right. Qui announced on Instagram yesterday of plans to open a new restaurant at Post.

Here's more from Eater Houston this morning:

After months of rumors that Paul Qui’s had a comeback in the works, the embattled chef has officially announced that he’ll open a new eatery at the forthcoming Post HTX food hall.

Qui made the announcement on Instagram on Thursday, but didn’t provide a whole lot of insight into what the restaurant will look like. At this point, all that’s known is that he’s working on a concept for the forthcoming 550,000 square foot Post HTX food hall project that’s currently under development inside the Barbara Jordan Post Office building in the Theatre District. That said, when Qui closed his Montrose restaurant Aqui in December 2018, the chef promised that he’d be back, and announced plans for a forthcoming restaurant that will serve “Filipino bites to be shared among friends.”

Back in May, Qui was spotted dining around Houston with superstar chef Alex Atala and developer Kirby Liu, whose company Lovett Commercial is helming the Post HTX project. When Post HTX was announced in June, Lovett Commercial didn’t share any details on which chefs would be involved, but rumors that Qui was involved with the project persisted.

...Beyond “coming soon,” Qui hasn’t announced a timeline for the new restaurant’s arrival.

  20. This thread was originally created November 22, 2017. I'm reposting / reupping this because this post and other content from me are no longer available on the forum due to a mod removing my account and its content in "error"  (supposedly). The information may be outdated or no longer relevant, but reupping provides an archive to what was posted. It also provides a place to post future updates about this property if and when it's redeveloped  An archive link  of the thread before its deletion is coming.

The downtown Houston warehouse for American Engine & Grinding at 100 N Jackson St is on the market.

I don't know if this will become another warehouse or developed into something else. I saw the listing on Loopnet and decided to post it here Loopnet's new website design no longer includes a link to property records (at lease for non-subscribers). The new site design also no longer contains pictures of the listing after it's off the market, so I posted it here while it's still visible.

From Loopnet (link 1 and link 2)  (archive link 1 and archive link 2):

    - The warehouse was built in 1925.
    - Total Building:  8,075  SF

    - Total SF Land: 20,027 SF

  24. It's also possible 2018 N Shepherd could be a taco restaurant from Shawn Bermudez (Royal Oak, Present Company, The Burger Joint) . Or this could be something similar to Bermudez's Pistolero's in Montrose. If so, it would go head to head with Cantina Barba.

There is an entity pointing to a taco business linked to Bermudez. It's fairly recent, filed within the 12 months, I think.

Have plans for this property been discussed in civic club meetings? And is the a TABC notice on the premises yet?
