  3. Construction progress of  5120 Washington Ave, Houston in the Washington Corridor (this is NOT in the Heights and it isn't part of the Heights area).

The building was Taps House of Beer and was demolished in spring (photo of the rubble is several posts up).

This is part of the row of bars on the 5100 block of Washington Ave.

The building is under construction to become the Sugar Room. a donut + coffee shop and another bar + club from So Clutch Group out of Dallas.

Here's a behind the scenes look at "Sugar Room." It'll be a great new spot on Washington Ave!

Merus Grill in Uptown Park Houston had private preview services this weekend. I received an invitation to dine last night but had to decline.

I haven't seen interior photos of the transformed  Añejo  space, but my expectations aren''t high.

Uptown Park posted a photo last week of the exterior and signage:

Morning! I edited to add more yesterday to my post above...

but wanted to add today that i drove by Cafe Express and they had moved out overnight and the place it empty!

    Here comes Hugo Ortega!!!

and i guess the closing of Cafe Express was timed perfectly with the opening of Mendocino Farms as that opens next week!

That was quick. I didn't expect Cafe Express to close this soon. You are correct about the competition from Mendocino Farms.

And Eater Houston wrote about your post today:

Following weeks of rumors, chef Hugo Ortega and restaurateur Tracy Vaught have officially confirmed that they’re working on a new restaurant in Uptown Park.

The real-estate obsessives at HAIF were the first to notice that Ortega and Vaught had their eyes on the former Cafe Express space at 101 Uptown Park Boulevard, Suite 12. Now, a statement from Vaught confirms that they’re working on a restaurant for that location, but doesn’t provide a ton of additional detail. “Like with all our other concepts, we prefer to keep the idea close to our chests, as we like to have the ability to plan, develop and make changes at-will without being hindered by any previous announcements,” Vaught said. “So, yes, we did sign with Eden to go into Uptown Park. Our plans are still fluid and the opening is at least a year away. We have no further details at this time.”

Many have speculated that Ortega and Vaught’s new restaurant will be of the fast-casual variety, which is exciting news for folks who can’t afford to enjoy the James Beard Award winning chef’s cuisine at Xochi or Hugo’s. Perhaps he’ll focus on the crispy tlayudas at Xochi, or bring the beloved ceviches from Hugo’s into a fast-casual format.

Meant to post this when I saw it early October, but then that whole "accidental"  fiasco with a mod taking it upon themselves to ban my account (thereby deleting over five years worth of posts and other's contributions).

In late September, there was a construction bid page created for Hugo Ortega's Uptown Park restaurant with the following text:

Proposed for Construction - Further action pending Owner's decision to proceed - Further details to be released late 2020

More on The Chicken & Rice Guys restaurant at Yale Crossing, 2723 Yale, Houston.

    From Eater Houston yesterday:

A Boston purveyor of halal chicken and rice will officially debut its first location outside of its home city in Houston next month.

The Chicken & Rice Guys is popping up at 2723 Yale Street in the Heights for a six-month run to test-drive whether it will stay in Houston long term. If all goes according to plan, The Guys will launch more brick-and-mortar locations locally alongside a fleet of food trucks. In the Heights, it will be housed inside a brand new 1,450-square-foot space.

I think Spicy Bear restaurant at Yale Crossing, 2723 Yale ( in the Heights, Houston ) has been scrapped.

Instead of Spicy Bear, a Boston-based restaurant similar to The Halal Guys is opening here.

The Chicken & Rice Guys is a Halal restaurant.

    https://cnrguys.com/

The Chicken & Rice Guys Houston location restaurant will be about 5 to 10 minutes away from the Halal Guys in Oak Forest. The Halal Guys is opening at 3008 Ella Blvd (thread about that here.)

Marcus & Millichap is pleased to offer 2723 Yale (“Property”) for your consideration. This 2018-constructed shopping center consists of 8,562 square feet of leasable area on a premium 26,136 square foot corner parcel in Houston’s highly sought-after Heights neighborhood. 2723 Yale is just south of the 610 Loop and benefits from its frontage on Yale Street, one of the Heights primary North/South thoroughfares. In addition, the Property is just across the 610 Loop from the new Whole Foods Market 365 that opened at the end of August, 2018.

2723 Yale is 100% occupied by a mix of appealing service-oriented tenants including Shipley Do-Nuts, The Elysian Boutique, and Spicy Bear.

Spicy Bear is the brick and mortar of Houston food truck Spicy Dog.  From Facebook:

Spicy Bear aims to bring the best Egg sandwich and Milk Tea to the Heights. Ideally, we hope to open our storefront by the late summer of 2018. We are currently in the processing of sourcing ingredients from a few of our potential providers.
