How do you figure? T.O. will self implode the Cowboys just like every other team he's been with. There's no way they make it to the Super Bowl with him and Parcells co-existing.

For those out in Sugar Land, Pepperoni's is the best non-chain neighborhood pizzaria around. They've been around for a while and have been expanding in the area over the last 5 years. I think there are seven now. Try the lunch special they tout as the best in Fort Bend. I eat there about once a week. -
I think this is ridiculous. 1836 is meant to be a source of pride for Houstonians and Texans alike. I liked the name very much. It's too bad that once again the minority opinion is affecting change when this was a voted upon name. So much for democracy. It'll be interesting to see the backlash THIS creates...

It would be great it some day UHD resembled Georgia Tech just outside downtown Altanta. I always wondered how they can have a real university downtown but it hasn't worked in Houston. Also, I like the "district" names, it gives some character to each of these areas and is impressive to visitors.

Ok, if the team name is going to be Houston 1836 (which I think is a great, symbolic name) then we need to build the stadium downtown on Buffalo Bayou. It only makes sense.

Again, I disagree with this. Like skwatra just said, I'm one of those who love the rodeo but I don't necessarily want to see a country artist. The other options interest me more and allow me the opportunity to go to the rodeo and be excited about who is on stage. Just because you like the rodeo doesn't mean you love country music.

I think the original point of the thread is still being missed. At least the way I see it. The point is that this year's lineup does not have as many big names as usual. Regardless of genre. The bigger the names the more people that come out and the more money for scholarships. I doubt HLSR breaks ANY attendence records with this lineup. A Beyonce, Mariah, Usher, Los Lonely Boys, Thalia, Shakira would've been nice for Black Heritage and Tejano Day.

I seriously don't think DJ was bringing us this point to be "racist" or even "PC." He was simply offering up an opinion that the rodeo "typically" has a better lineup. The performers just aren't as big this year. I believe it was TJones who is bringing up Rev. Al and affirmative action. This thread was not about skin color or ethnicity. I've attended the rodeo for probably 23 of the last 25 years. I typically go see a pop or non-country artist just because that is my taste. Maybe that's why I agree with DJ, the non country acts this year are sub par (e.g., Maze is no Alicia Keys). The rodeo usually does a better job of providing options for those who love the rodeo but not country music. Long live HLSR and the pig races!

I agree, this year's lineup does leave something to be desired. They have the same "theme" days but the acts aren't nearly as big as usual. I but they won't have as many sellouts as in the past. It looks like they're counting on Spring Break though. The don't usually cross Spring Break.

I guess you're a fortune teller. You called a bad season after a winless preseason and you know Reggie Bush is going to get injured for the Texans before he's even declared for the draft. Keep in mind that D. Davis hasn't played a full season for the Texans yet. I'd take Bush over Davis 8 days a week. Not that I don't like Davis but as others have said, Bush will open a myriad of windows for the offense. Also, don't hate on the Rockets, they've won two championships, they're not chokers. And don't hate on the Texans until they choke. "Don't bite your tongue when the Texans get to the playoffs..."

Jimmy Johnson has already told McNair "no." McNair visited him at his home in the Keys 2-3 weeks ago. The following weekend on Fox's pregame he again emphatically denied that he ever wants back in coaching. Additionally, I think he also re-upped his Fox contract. Lastly, we have to take Bush! All of the NFL scouts are calling him the best college hopeful to come out in years. We don't wanna be the team that passed up Reggie Bush. Use D. Davis as trade bait or keep him as a backup, whatever... just don't pass on Bush. We'd look like idiots. Not to mention McNair would assure himself of a steep decline in season ticket sales next year.

I still think downtown is the way to go. It's gotta be centrally located, the closer to rail and buses the better. If we put this in Sugar Land or Katy you greatly reduce your potential fan base. Especially without mass transit out to these locations. It doesn't seem to be working in Frisco anyhow, only 11,000 attendence in the first year. I say either just north and west of Minute Maid or just south of the Toyota Center. There's gotta be some affordable city land in one of these area's.

My sentiments exactly. I thought the issue was when it was too hot, like 85 and above. This past weekend the roof was closed and I know they've done the same thing in cold weather over the previous 3 years also. Football is meant to be played outdoors, hell even Bob McNair wanted an open air stadium. He only added the roof for the Rodeo. Why would they ever close it when it's cold? Rant over. As for the futbol stadium, I think a retractable roof for summertime is fine but also something like Qwest Field in Seattle on a smaller scale would be cool. Cover the fans but leave the roof open.

I definitely don't think we should copy FC Dallas' strategy of moving to the 'burbs. I mean Dallas has a history of this... Irving, Arlington, Frisco... Houston is more urban, more central, and more proud. We have a history of building in the urban core. I say take a look at the Pizza Hut Stadium, but place it near the people. How about right at the western corner of the 45 & 59/288 split (View map)? This would be effectively in downtown and midtown, have great freeway frontage, great views from the stadium, and still be near UH where the club will start out.

I really like the way you think. I just can't imagine that the city would spend enough money on a soccer stadium. I think they're going bare bones on this one. The best we can hope for is something on city land in downtown, Reliant Park parking lot, or Delmar. I wouldn't count on more than 25k seats, a roof, or retail. I just don't think the people of Houston think of soccer on the same scale as football, baseball, or basketball so I doubt it will get much public money. And we already know the current owner isn't willing to shell out too much. We could use a new owner with deep pockets.

I agree with this. If he's healthy, give him a shot. But if he can't perform, I don't think we should keep him out there because we "owe" it to him. That's not the way you win championships. You win championships by having the best players on the field. If Bags isn't one of the best, he shouldn't play.

I'd be ok with Bags as a pinch hitter, not an everyday player though. Also, keep in mind that if he comes in as a pinch hitter you're either putting Berkman on the bench or moving him to the outfield and bringing somebody else in. Would you really want Berkman going back to the bench or switching positions mid-game that often? He needs to stay in the lineup and healthy.

What needs to happen is for Bagwell to retire (he's of no consistent use to us anymore), let Berkman play his natural position of first base, keep Lane in left, Taveras in center, and add Nomar to right (or switch Lane and Nomar). That would give us an upgrade at first, an upgrade in the outfield, and a huge upgrade at the plate. With Ausmus back our pitching won't slip too far. Remember that as well as the Rocket pitched last season, he still only won 13 games due to our crappy offense. Even if he doesn't come back, maybe a more potent offense could make up for some of those 13 games. If we get him back in May or later (very unlikely), all the better.

I agree with the others. The Rockets had the most difficult schedule to start the season (Spurs, Pistons, Mavericks, Pacers...) so it should've been assumed that we wouldn't start great. This is especially true when you have so many new faces. Lastly, T-Mac has missed 4 games now, you can't expect to win with T-Mac out. Once everyone is back and healthy and the schedule gets easier, the Rockets will be back. They can't finish better than a 4th seed in the playoffs anyhow.
