So there could be two residential high rises being planned, a 20 story and a 40 story ?
-
"interfaith" lockmat?
fortune - no details on a 40 story commercial building, just a rumor. the woodlands development company is focusing on hughes landing specifically for now, or so i've heard. nothing major to occur for a year or so on the waterway.....at least to be developed by the woodlands. i do not know if there are properties not owned by the development company that could see some activity.
on another note, the push for a permanent ice rink location, is because the parking lot at six pines and lake robbins is to be developed in the coming years.
i think the woodlands development company is limited as to how much they can develop at one time. the current demand for hotels, rental units, and commercial, may be greater than they can produce.
I wonder why they didn't focus on finishing Water Way before they started on Hughes Landing.

"A 40-story luxury condominium building is also planned for Town Center near The Woodlands Waterway. The high-end units aim to fill the need of a specific segment of the area’s population, such as empty nesters and young professionals.
“Town Center was always planned to be more urban, with higher density residences than the villages in The Woodlands,” said Susan Vreeland-Wendt, spokeswoman for The Woodlands Development Company."
WHAT? The luxury residential at Waterway Square is 20 stories and the floor plate is probably too small for 40 stories. This is the second mention of a 40 story building I've heard, but the first was commercial. Either impactnews misspoke, or something else is afoot.

I hadn't heard anything about the 40 story commercial building. Do you have any details about it ?

Here is a rendering for the property currently being developed into Blvd place, if it was developed by Midway.

Here is a rendering of the building that was suppose to take the place of Willie G's restaurant on Post Oak. It was going to be built by Simmons Vedder Partners around 2008, however they ended up selling the property.

It was going to be a 320,000 sq ft office building.

Looks like Hines is going to build a multi family project in The Woodlands on the waterway. Looks to be about 8 stories with 400 units. The design looks pretty nice, it's nice to see a different variation in design compared to the other multi family projects going up in Houston that all look the same.

Pardon my ignorance, but do we know if this will take up two lots (hotel and parking garage)?
It will take up two lots. The lot the hotel will be built on and the parking garage will go on the lot directly north of the GRB.
Yeah that pool is going to be insanely awesome.
Are they going to redo McKinney infront because the surface looks like it is striped in a weird way. Does anyone know anything about that?
In the article it mentioned that Houston First Corp is going to spend $23 mil to make Ave De Americas more pedistrian friendly by incorporating retail and restaurants. So they most likely will resurface the area.

I'm glad it passed.
That said, if it's going to be a Marriott Marquis, then what happens to the conversion taking place at 806 Main right now? Isn't that supposed to become a Marriott Marquis as well? Would seem odd to have them so close together...
The original rumor about 806 Main was that it was going to become one of the brands under Kimpton Hotels... hopefully that is true.
I think the 806 Main location will be a JW Marriott.

I'm not sure if this is even possible, but could a independent company come in to houston and implement their own light rail system ?

Do you not expect some level of protest over losing the park?
I was curious about that as well especially since the Upper Kirby District has done a couple upgrades to the park the last decade. There are even plans for another phase of upgrades.

Where'd you hear that? I noticed the site still has an African Art store on it...
Why did it die ?
-
Mid-rise apartment and a movie theater and appears to be a different architect for each. Though, there hasn't been official design approval of either...
There sure are a lot of movie theaters coming to the area with this one, the one at River Oaks District, and the Alamo in Midtown. Which exact corner of W. Dallas & Dunlavy will this be going on ?

That's not what the restaurant's owners said. http://www.chron.com/life/food/article/Why-Feast-is-closing-and-what-s-next-4087920.php
I stand corrected. Always seemed crowded to me.
-
Didn't they shut down a lot of stores a few years ago ?
-
Is there any word about this project going up ? Have any pre leases taken place ?
-
The restaurant was a success. The closure I'm sure has nothing to do with it not being success because it was. The restaurant is simply closing because the owners chose not to renew the lease. The chefs/owners I'm sure are just ready to move on to a new project or venture.

You know, this really sucks.
All these developers that keep doing this to us are such ****teases.
They come out with these grand proposals and renderings (houston pavilions), get us houstonians all aroused so they will gain our approval, then when it comes time to build it, they scale back half the project and scrap all the components that were necessary to make the project a success (a la pavilions scrapping two towers of hotel and residential)
Then we're left with a cut rate, penny pinchers half ass projects that end up failing miserably and being bought up by the Magic Johnson group.
Sigh. thank God for Gerald Hines and Marvy Finger
/rant
And before someone trys to troll my post, yes, I'm aware the project was put on hold because of the recession, then scaled back.
Still, fail.
I completely agree ! ! !

This is strictly my opinion, but ''yawn.'' This ranks right up there with the Dynamo Stadium and the developments on UH campus. There is much more exciting projects happening around town. I know I know, bahumbug...
I agree this is a big let down. It should have been developed how it was originally planned. That would have been a one of a kind project in houston.

Of course there going to have drive thru in this suburban shopping center.
-
I agree whats so special about this neighborhood ? There are a lot of these type of subdivisions being developed why does this one get a thread ?
-
well the site has officially sold and knowing the buyer i'd be shocked if anything other than high density mixed-use was ultimately developed.
Haha you're not going to get that info outta me... But I think it bodes well for the type of development that will ultimately happen.
i was told sold but they very well could have meant under contract. even if it is only under contract i have no doubt it will ultimately close and no doubt something high-density will get developed.
I could tell you but I won't... Lets see your detective skllls Btw they have no track record of development bc they've never developed anything.
In previous post you have made on this topic you said that this would be high density mixed use development because of the buyer. How do you know that this will be nothing other then high density mixed use development if the buyer doesn't have a track record of developing anything ?

Midtown Christmas Wish List

Residential high rises with retail on the bottom floors in Midtown instead of blocks of town homes and suburban strip centers.
