  1. This is really a shame. Another piece of the area's character will be lost.
  2. I guess a couch is better than that dishwasher I almost hit one time in the middle of 45 heading into Dallas.
  3. True indeed. It will take some time to repair the damage they've inflicted on their image over the years. But that doesn't generally concern me personally. Granted, I don't see myself every buying a Buick, but I would never buy a Lexus either. Softy highway cruisers just aren't my thing. But if a carmaker with a previously bad image suddenly churns out the best world-class vehicles, I could care less about image if it's a great car that I find appealing. Also interesting is how so many features and technologies have moved downmarket and made prestige brands less compelling in the process. Ford SYNC is a good example of this. It's better than any comparable systems in the prestige brands. I prefer driving a base-brand vehicle, and I think many younger folks feel the same way as long as the quality and technology is there.
  4. I'm surprised they're reviving the tainted Regal nameplate. But I guess if it works in China they might as well try it here in the U.S. What's more surprising is that Buick seems to be outdoing Lexus all of a sudden...
  5. That's good to hear. I've been wondering when that section of DT would begin to develop.
  6. It's been awhile since I last rented, but wow, $1295 for a small 1 bedroom 667 sq. ft. apartment seems steep for Houston.
  7. UPS - never a problem, delivery guy is super nice. FedEx - delivers to wrong address occasionally, but okay most of the time. I did have one odd instance where their web site claimed the package had been delivered when it hadn't. I called to complain, and the next day I hear someone throw said package over a fence to my backdoor (back when I was in a townhouse). USPS - Mailman is excellent, but their distribution center rarely forwarded my mail last time I moved. Best part - missing the deadline for a red-light violation (where I actually turned right on a red but they charged me anyway...awesome).
  8. That must have taken some bravery after seeing photos 10 and 11. You'd think the building had sat through a couple fierce earthquakes. Thanks for the pics, secretsquirrel.
  9. Yep, the right lane on Westheimer is almost useless starting at Bagby, and with the narrow lanes and the large Metro buses, driving side-by-side in many areas means crossing into oncoming traffic. To add to the fun, the right lane of Westheimer started to massively deteriorate about a year after the repaving.
  10. Maybe this is all part of the charrette master plan.
  11. I can see that. It seems that the more cars evolve, the more they look the same.
  12. I saw that. Perhaps it's a bit arrogant and counter-productive for the president of an auto company to call a competitor's future customers "idiots"? The initial Chevy Volt will have a price premium, as most first generation bleeding-edge technologies do. In time, GM and competitors (evidently excluding VW/Audi) will increase production and drive down costs. It always amazes me how some in the automotive industry are so in love with the past. I guess every new technology has it's detractors. The internal combustion engine has had a long and successful run, but it's days are numbered, and diesel is not a long term solution just because of better highway mileage. As a technology geek, I'm looking forward to seeing the Volt and other new technologies come to market, allowing people to choose energy independence the next time gas prices jump. I'll happily dump the ICE for a high-torque alternative when it becomes financially feasible and when the products are as good or better than ICE-based vehicles (no offense to those working in the oil industry).
  13. Looks to me like they're copying the unfortunate looking BMW X6...or an early 80's era AMC Eagle.
  14. It looks a little over stylized, but for the most part I like it. I never thought I'd like Hyundai, but they're really picked up the pace lately.
  15. Consumer Reports says the exact same thing. They prefer a loaded Honda Accord over any of the Acura sedans, even the RL.
  16. They all look like variations of the RX300 to me.
  17. I have to agree. With the revised plan, they will still get most of the traffic, but without the added benefit of retail within walking distance.
  18. I feel that Marmer makes a good point. There's a difference between what one "can" do and what one "should" do. And while this development is probably in the financial best interests of the developers, there's nothing wrong with considering what's best for the community and others affected by it. In this case, it's pretty clear that most of the community does not want this development.
  19. Didn't the Republicans control the House and Senate for most of Clinton's Presidency? You're so right, the poor have it so great in this country. Wow, what it must be like... And you're right, healthcare is a privilege in America. Health insurance companies put their own bottom line and their shareholders rights above the lives of human beings by denying treatments or canceling policies when a customer faces expensive medical care. What a privilege it is. I would support tort reform on medical malpractice and some caps, but that is just one of many issues.
  20. Perhaps it's because they know Medicare is incredibly popular and successful with those covered by the program.
  21. Wouldn't more people having access to health insurance benefit the TMC?
  22. It revolves around the sun once each calender year. It also rotates 360 degrees every 24 hours, which is what I think you're referring to. So I guess having your property cast in the shadow of this complex, say, every afternoon from here on out is okay then? On the positive side, maybe it will save them on cooling cost.
  23. I'm not sure I'd agree if my home was about to be cast in the shadow of this tower. [EDIT] To appease those who take everything literally.
