  1. In Singapore they have public floggings for littering. Guess what? It's the cleanest country on Earth. Rules only work when they're enforced. The problem with laws in America is that so many are rarely enforced.
  2. How's the Calpine building doing? Anyone know how full it is?
  3. I second the Spindletop recommendation. And there's so much to see that you'll have natural conversation starters passing by you all the time.
  4. I never went to the park, but it would be cool if those of you who did could post pictures of your family outings. I bet it would be neat to see some really old pictures from the 70's and 80's.
  5. Let's stay on topic, people. I'm getting tired of the Dallas v. Houston battles.
  6. I agree with 'Coog. I was at the Virgin flagship store in London last month and it was pretty lame. The one in Chicago is pretty lame, too. From what I remember, the New Orleans one wasn't all that great, either. I'm not terribly impressed by any of the big chain music stores these days. They seem to be caught between two worlds and not sure how to relate to either the kids or to people with money to spend.
  7. Thanks for the correction. It's been a long time. Back then I had hair!
  8. "Cum on Feel the Noize" by Twisted Sister. Now close your eyes and imagine that echoing through Minute Maid Park with tens of thousands of screaming fans.
  9. The furthest south I've seen Tim Horton's is Cleveland.

  11. The only serious chain coffee competition I've seen lately is Seattle's Best Coffee and Carribou Coffee. Then Starbucks bought Seattle's Best, so it's just the Minnesotans. I prefer Carribou's coffee drinks, but I like Starbucks non-coffee drinks better, like the caramel apple cider.
  12. Put it on the island. Even better -- put it on a pier in the water, just like Galveston used to have.
  13. Getting a Nextel store may not be as bad as you think. In some markets the Nextel and Sprint stores are being kept separate, with Nextel being marketed to businesses and young professionals while Sprint targets teens and pay-as-you-go-in-the-ghetto (i.e. "Where you at?" "Umm... in school, learning grammar.")
  14. I'd say it's excellent news, but I will withhold judgement until we see the business hours. So many 'bucks are only open 8-4 Monday through Saturday it's rediculous. What's the point of putting it in a neighborhood if the people who live there can't patronize your business?
  15. Christmas.
  16. Anniversary of the great fire in 1871 which destroyed 1/3 of the city of Chicago. Celebrated as part of Fire Prevention Week.
  17. 18. At least the price will keep it from becoming another drug store. But watch out for the dry cleaners!
  19. I love the gargoyle watching the sunrise from the roof of the Gotham Lofts. I haven't seen that one before.
  20. Speaking of Stucky's, does anyone remember that now abandoned one on I-10 about half way to Louisiana? I don't know why they thought they could make money way out there in the middle of nowhere.
  21. On this day we remember the thousands of people killed in the terrorist attacks on New York, and Washington, DC.
  22. The nice thing about Barney's is that they don't carry the same old stuff you see in all of the other high-end shops like Neiman Marcus or Nordstrom. They tend to showcase independent artists/designers or small companies that produce high quality goods, often from American companies.
  23. I've lived in a Randall Davis building before, and known people who have lived in other ones. Let's hope they have better management, maintenance, and construction than the ones I've experienced.
