The 5905 Washington Ave property was at one point Mayson Auto Paints.

The property has been on and off the market for several years.

At one point, Transwestern put this on the market and for lease.

In 2016, the property at 5905 Washington Ave was going to be renovated into a Vietnamese restaurant, So Pho So Good.

The property at 5905 Washington Ave will turn into a coffee shop, donut shop, or some kind of cafe.

The guy with Sterling House leased this property and will rehab the building.

This very well may be a donut shop. There is a LLC and DBA for Grateful Donut or Grateful Donuts at 5905 Washington Ave.

Amir Ansari ( Sterling House ,  Eighteenth Cocktail Bar ,  Vintage Lounge ) is involved with this.

If this building will be repurposed into a donut shop, that makes three new donut shops for the Washington Corridor:

I think the name of this is still Grateful Donut.

Last year, the name changed to Dripped. Amir Ansari linked up with Don Bowie of Taste Bar + Kitchen (he leases the space for Taste from Ansari) to open Dripped Donut at 5909 Washington Avenue. However, the deal was nixed after a lawsuit threat from Bowie's former business & former co-owner of Taste, according to Eater Houston's coverage of Bowie's lawsuits.

I don't know if previous plans for Dripped extends to Grateful Donuts. Besides donuts, Dripped planned on being a dessert shop and art studio.

Grateful Donuts had its pre-opening inspection about a week or two ago. It's possible this could open soon.

This should open before the end of the year. Instead of Grateful Donut, this will be Dripped / Dripped Donut.

Eater Houston reported the news last year. At the time, Dripped was going to be a collaborative project from Amir Ansari (Sterling House, Vintage, Eighteenth Cocktail Bar) and Don Bowie (Taste / Taste Bar & Kitchen), but a lawsuit from Bowie's former business partner but a halt to it. The lawsuit alleged Bowie's was in violation of their partnership agreement which barred Bowie from opening additional restaurants without his business partner, among other things.

The lawsuit was later dropped. So, I don't know if the disolvement of Bowie & his co-owner's partnership allowed Bowie to resume his original plans with Ansari for Dropped.

Nevertheless, Dripped is on track to open this fall on Washington Avenue.  The interior design is super colorful from what I hear. There is a mural inside too.

I think the original plans for Dripped included donuts, desserts, and an art studio or cafe of sorts. Besides donuts, I don't know if desserts and the art studio component will still be included. I know Bowie is working a dessert shop named Sugar Frk. No idea if this will be part of Dripped or if it will be a storefront on its own.

Don Bowie is almost finished with renovations of his other Washington Ave concept, a steakhouse and lounge named Rare. It's replacing Therapy at 4105 Washington Ave (if there's a thread for that address, someone can repost this there).

The first and second floors of 5909 Washington Avenue are available for lease, according to listing posted several days ago.

I don't know if this means Drip'd Donuts is not renewing its lease or not at this location, but the listing seems to indicate the owner is seeking a new tenant.

Drip'd Donuts was originally planned as a joint venture between Don Bowie (Taste and Rare) and Amir Ansari (local nightlife veteran and owner of 3015 Bagby St). However, Ansari severed ties after Bowie's former partner at Taste threatened to sue Ansari. According to an ongoing lawsuit at that time, Bowie's former business partner alleged a contract signed by Bowie prevented him from opening new restaurants without his partner.

Following the lawsuit settlement, I'm assuming Ansari teamed up with Bowie again because Bowie promoted the donut shop on his Instagram account as one of several new concepts of his opening soon. A few months prior to Drip'd Donuts opening in March, Bowie was no longer promoting the business. It appeared as if Bowie was no longer involved with Drip'd Donuts (he likely wasn't).

Bowie may have backed out of Drip'd Donuts (or pushed out) with Ansari. As we now know, during this time, Ansari locked Bowie out of Taste's Midtown location at 3015 Bagby due to non-payment of rent. Ansari eventually sued Bowie over this and a multitude of other issues.

SRS Real Estate Partners is leasing the building.

Also @Highrise Tower this is NOT owned by Newquest Property nor was it built by Newquest. Mayne consider removing the tag since it doesn't apply?

Drip'd Donuts closed its doors at 5909 Washington Ave recently. I think sometime in the last few weeks. The donut shop will relocate, but I don't know if a location has been secured.

I always wondered if a donut shop was the best use for this property... guess we now know.

I don't know if there were other potential tenants with their owns plans for the property, that is, prior to Drip'd Donuts leasing the space. However, original plans for Drip'd Donuts included more than donuts.

The concept was supposed to be more of a dessert and ice cream shop, with a focus on donuts. There was going to be space for an artist hub on the second floor. I think, though I'm not entirely certain, those involved were aiming for something along the lines of Honey Art Cafe on South Shepherd Dr.

Those plans changed. I don't know if the changes were a result of Don Bowie leaving (or being pushed out of) the project or not.

Location may have been an issue but I think a bigger problem is it doesn't look open. From the outside I would never guess it was a donut shop.

I agree with your observation regarding the donut shop not appearing open for business. I think if the entrance faced Washington Avenue instead of on the side of the building in the parking lot, it would have allowed potential customers to see in a little more.

Although either the owners or their marketing team reached out to popular food vloggers to help spread the word months after opening, they should have gotten in contact with local publications covering Houston's dining scene. I mean, I informed most of the food journalists / writers about it, but as they do with a lot of tips I send their way, they chose to pass on informing their readers about the new business.
