When is Krispy Kreme opening?

Recommended Posts

There is also going to be a Krispy Kreme on Westheimer between Dunvale and Fondren where the Arby's used to be in the Target parking lot.

Sweet!  An Arby's further out on Westheimer, east of Dairy Ashford, also just closed.  Now I can get my hopes up that they convert that one to Krispy Kreme, too.

Didn't they come and go once before?

Yeah. They built a number around 2000 or 2001, including one downtown. After 3 or 4 years there was some sort of dispute between corporate and the local franchisee and they all shut ddown.

and how long will they stay this time? There seems to be a lot of enthusiasm for the chain on this forum but I'm pretty sure the one on Bay Area Blvd. just didn't do well economically. Perhaps it was the location (not easy to get to). There wasn't a Shipley's, or Dunkin' Donuts, or other independent shop nearby so I don't think it was an issue of too much competition.

Ironically, it WAS a Krispy Kreme from 1998 to 2006.

I think that was the first Krispy Kreme to open up in the Houston area. I remember going there when it first opened. Funny how Dairy Ashford and Westheimer seemed so far away to me at that time.

Indeed it was. It was converted into just a bakery with no retail operations after the Jumble's debacle. I go into more detail on my website. (Click on the location on the map).

This has nothing to do with actual Krispy Kreme locations but rather Krispy Kreme itself. Those of you that have had Krispy Kreme, do the doughnuts get soggy like the ones from Shipley's do after a certain time or is it a common doughnut thing?

Not really soggy, though the glaze will start to melt under certain conditions.  They will get stale.

Krispy Kreme donuts' glaze tends to harden into a thin shell, with the donuts keeping their toroid form even well after cooling.  I've found that this shell means that once they've cooled, they stay a sleek donut until you eat them.  And if you want them warm again, microwave for 8 seconds.

Not sure how long they can sit out though.  Probably not all weekend

I really have to ask "Who cares when Krispy Kreme is opening?", since Shipley's sells donuts that are several orders of magnitude better. I have a sweet tooth, but the KK donuts are cloyingly awful.

The answer to that question will be the crowds at KK when they finally open.

Personally, I find Shipley's to be mediocre thus my interest in the KK opening.

When is Krispy Kreme openning?

Answer:  6am tomorrow morning (Nov 3).

For the Dunvale location, at least.  First 100 through the door get free doughnuts for a year.  According to the flyer, they're expecting some folks to camp out tonight.  I'm not that hard up so I'll just stop by later in the day to get my fix.
