  1. Highland Village is one of the best shopping areas in Houston. I think that Houston needs more of theses type of shopping areas. I just wish that the shopping was closer to the road (More Urban), but it's great how it is. Does anyone know of any new shopping areas going up that area comparable to Highland Village?

  3. Here are my photos so far. I have some more I have to take of this really cool wall they have left standing all by itself. I keep wondering how it stays up because there is nothing to brace it. I guess they are waiting for it to fall on its own. I will head over there this afternoon and add to these. I took these two weeks ago: http://www.tropicaltexans.com/images/Houston/tcfeb05.jpg From the TGI Friday's lot perpendicular to the Tollway. http://www.tropicaltexans.com/images/Houston/tcfeb05-2.jpg Same angle. http://www.tropicaltexans.com/images/Houston/tcfeb05-3.j
  4. Houston-based AmReit has bought Uptown Park, a Galleria-area retail center developed by Giorgio Borlenghi's Interfin, for $68.8 million. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/front/3208551
  5. We have known about this since July, but it was in the BLVD Place thread. With the first rendering, I decided to start it's own thread. POST OAK PLAZA TO GET A MAKEOVER Post Oak Plaza, the 130,000 square-foot shopping center located at Post Oak Boulevard and San Felipe, will soon undergo an extensive makeover. Improvements will include a new fa

  7. I am now living in Los Angeles, but on a recent trip to Houston, I saw the difference in retail outlets in the Galleria and even Highland Village. Both places have gotten pretty big chains and specialty stores, like Burberry, Dior, Bose, Jimmy Choo, and Luca Luca. Although most people don't care for this, since it is outside of most people's reach, I work in this industry, doing marketing for luxury brands, and I know that stores moving into a city at this pace signifies growth and confidence that the city is chic enough and diversified enough to open shop. In Houston, there have been 13 s
  8. Hearing that Kickerillo's new center across from HP (249 & Louetta) will include a Central Market along with Pottery Barn and other anchors (with whispers of a Nordstrom's or Neiman Marcus).
  9. http://swamplot.com/doctors-without-borders-kelsey-seybold-clinic-taking-over-pole-position-at-meyerland-plaza/2012-07-18/ where are there other examples of medical biz setting up new facilities to cash in on the affordable care act? Either in previuosly underserved areas, or currently well served areas?
  10. My old boss did plans for this shopping center back in the 80s or 90s. I also helped with the drawings for the Chase bank addition on the corner. This shopping center is anchored by the famous Belden's Supermarket.
  11. I've been here a lot lately. Loving Rustika Cafe & Bakery, Thai Bistro, and 100% Taquito. The shopping center has a great view of Greenway Plaza and Upper Kirby. Just wanted to make a thread for future happenings. https://davisholdingslp.com/summit-square-entry/
  12. One day this shopping center will be redeveloped, so we may as well start this thread now. My guess is they will hold out until there is very little or no other places to redevelop along Post Oak. As of now, HCAD lists the the property valuation at $101 million. By comparison, an undeveloped block in the heart of downtown is $25 mil. Capitol Tower is listed as $125 mil. I can only imagine what they'll have to build to meet the land's value. As mentioned in the Galleria Green Space thread I started, I hope it includes a park. My personal dream is a north/sou
  13. Not surprising. It would only have made sense to try to re-open it if they could double-decker it and that might not have been worth the investment. From discussions on Next Door it seems quite a few homeowners in Meyerland are hoping for a Fema buyout offer and the population of the neighborhood is probably going to decline. A thread on Next Door today says a new 85,000 sq. ft. location with Kosher bakery and deli will be announced by the end of the month. Another poster says the deal is not final but close. That's 'new' and 'to be announced' so presumably it's some
  14. Didn't know if anyone was privy to what, if anything, will be added to Gulfgate. There is still the huge empty land between 610 and Donaraki. Also there appears to be some kind of construction action in the parking lot in front of the Marshalls.
  15. Noticed some activity here today.
  16. I was walking around Rice Village recently (pushing a stroller) and noted how poor some of the streets/curbs and infrastructure appeared. There are numerous areas where the curbs have no ramps and you are literally forced to walk in the street or through parking lots. This is really surprising to me given the number of young families with children in the immediate area, and the proximity to the medical center (and thus likely use by people in wheelchairs.) The village is really one of the major 'public faces' of Houston to the outside world, likely to be visited by out of town families of
  17. Does anyone have the scoop on the new 24hr Fitness in the Plaza on Richmond (at 610 and Richmond)? It looks like it will be a two story facility. Wondering if it will be like the one downtown.

  19. So I pass by Summit Place or Plaza, right next to Lakewood Church/Compaq Cente/Summit, and that project look totally idiotic. First I noticed that the pyramid shaped caps on the towers were way out of proportion to the rest of the building (all the had to do was copy the cap on the Mercedes dealership next door) then they are building a garage behind it that you can see is towering over it from the freeway. Doesn't look like the architects did any mass models! To top it off, the garage look like it will be unfinished concrete while the store fronts are brick! Talk about another uninspired proj
  20. About 6 months ago, I heard a rumor about Central Market. The rumormill said that Oshman's (on the corner of Gessner and I-10) was going to move into the old Service Merchandise store (about 1/2 mile west) and Central Market was going to take over the Oshman's location. Well, for the past 6 months, it's been mostly a rumor but we've been watching with interest as the old Service Merchandise store got a facelift. Sure enough, a banner was just hung on the facade announcing that the store would be an Oshman's. So... one down, one to go? Personally, I'm thrilled about having a Central Market

  22. This shopping center is at Buffalo Speedway & Westpark. Across the street from H-E-B. This center is anchored by Kroger. Noticed Vietopia vacated their spot after a decade. They are now located at the Southwest Freeway service road by Whataburger. Went to eat there last night. Same great food! Definitely a smaller footprint. Probably had to downsize due to Covid. Found an old drawing from the realtor's website. http://www.rhsint.com/plaza-in-the-park.html
  23. Maybe I am posting this in the wrong section, but I live in Meyerland and I have often wondered why we do not have a Super Walmart in the SW Houston/Meyerland area. We have a normal Walmart off of South Post Oak and 610 (which is always REALLY crowded), but not a Super WM. Anyone else think there needs to be one?
