  1. 20 million bucks to make sure the poor darlings don't get rained on. I don't see them building anything to stop fee-paying students getting crapped on while their pockets are picked. And another thing -- you kids get off my lawn!
  2. It would be HI-larious if UH finally got into the Big 12, and Texas and Oklahoma promptly moved to the Pac-12.
  3. They should build over the parking. That would encourage walkability.
  4. Monkeys? Really? I wish I had known apes attended classes at those two institutions. Would have made for some great photos! Good ol' Karim loves (and leaves) the ladies and the ponies. I don't know what he does with the ponies when they are past it.
  5. Very interesting piece here -- http://www.chicagobusiness.com/section/hq-- that explains the Chicago moves. Very minor mention of the "young talent" factor.
  6. Considering UT-RGV was just formed as an amalgamation of UTPA and UT-Brownsville, I think the state is already working on bolstering the system along the border. Kingsville is not the border.
  7. If this was Texas State bitching about the PUF, none of you would care.
  8. I did, in fact, Google that publication, and... Yup, sounds like we oughta strap McRaven in at Huntsville and let the pentobarbital flow freely in those bastardly, dastardly veins. Because Watchdog sez he be the 9TH EEEVULLLEST!!!1! I was hoping he would be higher in the rankings so I could be more outraged. My goodness, I hope UT AND A&M build campuses in Houston. The more the merrier.
  9. I'm still trying to figure out why you think we have ever heard of this "Watchdog" bunch. I have no idea why that is supposed to be a big deal.
  10. http://www.hbu.edu/About-HBU/The-Campus/The-Future-of-HBUs-Campus.aspx There's an interactive map that has some renderings.
  11. You know what I would be proud of in Houston? Places where regular, working-class people can find affordable housing and get on with their lives. I don't care if it's trendy or fancy or whatever.
  12. That one has been a bit of a clusterfuffle. They finally tore the old stands down, and then nothing. New ones were supposed to be installed in time for women's soccer this fall, but that was never going to happen. I'm sure they will get it done some day.
  13. It's a great addition to the area, and is in the perfect location. Happy to see some movement finally on this one.
  14. With Cypress, Katy and Sugar Land all within good distance, the rest of Houston probably isn't needed to make the park a success.
  15. I don't think the Salvation Army charges anything for their programs or shelter. It is funded by donations.
  16. OK, and in your apparently extensive commuting experience (Las Vegas doesn't have commuter rail, btw), when you looked out the window did you see a bunch of cars, perhaps? As an aside, I am incredibly impressed that you have lived and worked and commuted in 10+ major cities around the world. Kudos on your lengthy international career!
  17. Vik, how many days in your life have you commuted to work, or anywhere, by rail?
  18. Best practices around the world don't mean shiznit here. That's just the way it is. Cars are here to stay.
  19. Move the station where? Inside the courthouse complex?
  20. I love the idea of the NW Mall as the terminal site. It moves us one more step away from the idea that "downtown" is the most important part of the city of Houston. It is close to the Galleria, and just a 610 ride away from stadiums and other attractions.
  21. If she hasn't already visited, perhaps Grace United Methodist at 1245 Heights Blvd..

    Climate Change

I love how cavalier some people seem to be about slapping a carbon tax on. You do realize this would absolutely crush and decimate the poorer segments of our society, yes? You ok with that side-effect? Also, do you truly believe that "Big Oil" isn't hedging its bets by looking into future energy sources? Are they so shortsighted that they will just throw up their corporate hands when oil runs out and say, "Gee, guess that's it for us folks! Been great!"
