  1. It has been an inordinate amount of time for this project to come together. And if you look at some of the earlier images from DC Partners it won't be nearly as impressive as they were originally planning. There were going to be four towers, and a pedestrian bridge to access the Bayou Park. These people worked with Randall Davis too often.
  2. This little 8 block neighborhood nestled between (Richmond to W. Alabama, and Dunlavy to Graustark), is getting to be a powerhouse collection of world renowned architects. I'd like to point out, that from this view in the middle ground once the new St. Augustine is completed, you will find two Renzo Piano's, 3 Phillip Johnson projects, a master planned campus and Catholic chapel, and a non denominational Rothko Chapel, two Lake Flato's, a Johnson Marklee gallery, and a Francois Menil Chapel.
  3. Great color, detail, and field of vision in the above image of Autry Park. I enjoy the details, and seeing it from this height and angle reveals a continuous line of growth of mid to high rise development all the way from downtown, to the northern edge of TMC. The density and height that has occurred, especially in the Museum District sort of surprised me. Starting wth Lovett and Hines towers on Montrose, and continuing south to the buildings clustered around the Museums and Herman Park has revealed an emerging mini skyline that shows up in this image.
  4. I think its pretty fortuitous that 20 years ago when they built that wall they chose to add Double Helix symbols on it. I can see the architects for TMC3, driving around the site surveying the property and it's surroundings. Perhaps seeing that wall with the row of double helix's symbols was they're inspiration. As for the ugly power plant. They could always build a tall wall with more Double Helix's echoing the shape.
  5. Nice shots. Enjoyed seeing this angle. Curious how this side of Discovery West was coming along. I particularly enjoyed seeing the 610 bridge crossing over the port as the backdrop. Great depth. I would like to see some shots from the southeast corner of downtown north to get a better feel of the residential area with downtown as the backdrop. It would be nice to see some that angle of the Trebly park area. And reflect on the shrinking parking desert. This area has great potential.
  6. Could it possibly be, because this is going to be open to the climate?
  7. Drove by this today and the wood structure is amazing! Pictures don't do it justice. Its something you need to see in person. It's going to be a dynamic addition to the theater district and I would imagine a go to place for a drink after work or before a performance.
  8. This is quite a ways from downtown. Shouldn't this be in the southwest houston or Katy forum. I don't think it rates the Going Up forum.
  9. I was driving down OST this afternoon at Scott heading towards the med center and the new One Discovery Way has broken the skyline.
  10. It's nice to see a steel superstructure going up. This is probably one of the more interesting projects structurally and aesthetically that I've seen on HAIF in quite a while. This is one project I cant wait to see when it's finished. This will bring a lot of attention to Houston in national and international publications for its cultural, and architectural accomplishments. It will also bring Houston more credit for being such a diverse and accepting city. This will rank right up there with the Menil, Kinder and Memorial Park Buffalo Bayou parks, as far as important and positive accomplishments. Its just amazing how much has changed in the last ten years.
  11. There from a lack of interest in finishing this project. No-one on the job and no security. The city should come up with a way to fine these kinds of projects or not let them get any more permits for other jobs in the city. They already had to take out the rotten sheetrock. Now they're going to have to replace all of the windows. Does anyone know if the contractor or developer went out of business. This is pathetic. And since were in the neighborhood why haven't we heard anything from the Astros organization about their development. That would really help generate a buzz in this quadrant of downtown.
  12. Just curious what the red grasshopper thing on the patio in the bottom picture does. It looks like its about to climb up the wall with those legs spread
  13. Dixie Drive was closed down today for some major electrical hookups to the transmission lines that run on the west side of 288 on the Levit Green property. There were at least 4 or 5 large buckets trucks working in the middle of Dixie and I had to detour back to Holcombe to get across 288.
  14. They should tear down the boutique and create a park. It would probably spur some hotel/ residential mixed use development. Those are three things that would make the Rice Village a more livable neighborhood. And maybe add a grocery store to the mix.
  15. One thing for sure, if you cant find something in the holiday crush, go to Midtown Whole Foods . Its always free of crowds and the garage is easy to navigate. I went there for Thanksgiving products I couldn't find in other stores or didn't want to deal with the crowds. It was great. Literally many more workers than shoppers. I only hope they get enough customers to justify staying open.
  16. Went and saw Damn Yankees there in the mid 50's. Our neighbor and my godfather played one of the leads, and was married to Marrieta Marich. His name was Bob. They later had a dinner theater. She went on to play the mother in a later version of the movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. She and my dad had a Saturday afternoon TV show featuring a movie an old take on dinner and a movie in the fifties on KPRC. They sang together with a live band in the studio. Dick Shannon who had the dixienauts at the dome was the leader and also wrote the the old UToTem jingle. You tell em - Utotem. Crazy childhood days!
  17. I rode on this test train when I was a child. As the article states it was to promote a monorail for Houston. We went there for one of my dads TV promotions for KPRC. He had children's television shows in the mid to late fifties. This was when KPRC was on Post Oak road about where the Lakes on Post Oak are now located. Spent a lot of time at the station with my dad.
  18. Speaking of the Rustic, every time I drive by its got a fairly good crowd. Just goes to show you that it wasn't a bad location like some had suggested.
  19. You have to remember that they aren't building this for the general public to picnic , jog, or nap in , but a place of serenity and beauty to stimulate research scientist and medical professionals who will actually populate this project. Just like the Houston Endowment's new building. For some reason everyone thinks they should have the run of these places. Have you ever tried to get into the office buildings downtown. They have security and are fairly restrictive to who they let enter.
  20. Well Samagon, I guess you were only off by 13 years.
  21. Thats a little misleading when you say next year, because there are only 25 days in 2022. I seemed to have seen somewhere that it will be early in the new year. This has been a very well run project so far and I think that anyone who is complaining should just think about some of the projects we've watched over the years take two and three times as long as originally projected. If you haven't been out to see what has already been accomplished you need to go admire what has been an incredible transformation. Look back just 5 years ago when the park had lost thousands of trees. It will be well worth the wait.
