  1. I can't believe I forgot George and Barbara Bush. I have a section on Houston residents. I'll have to add that. Thanks.
  2. Yes, George Foreman was mentioned. Didn't anyone go look at the website I made? It's neat, check it out. Beyonce once told a great story on Leno about a very early performance at Astroworld where she blew a snot bubble and it popped while she was on stage performing.
  3. I worked long and hard on this. Let me know what you think. Famous Houstonians

  5. One computer just has the Emachines logo wallpaper, but that one is messed up and I can't really use it right now, so I'm using my old HP. Here's the picture on its desktop:
  6. I saw that same segment last night on the evening news and was thinking how annoying and unfunny he was.
  7. http://www.cbc.ca/cp/world/050314/w031458.html Switzerland remains world model for safe cities with a high quality of life 03:33 PM EST Mar 14 LONDON (AP) - Luxembourg is the world's safest city, but Swiss cities lead the way for combining safety with high quality of life, according to a survey released Monday. All five Canadian cities in the survey scored well, with Vancouver coming in third for overall quality of life. Geneva and Zurich were tied atop that list, with Vancouver and Vienna, Austria, tied for third. The German cities of Frankfurt, Munich and Duesseldorf tied for fifth. Toronto was ranked 14th for quality of life, Ottawa was ranked 20th, Montreal was 22nd and Calgary was 25th. The Swiss cities of Bern, Geneva and Zurich ranked just behind Luxembourg for safety, along with the Finnish capital, Helsinki, said the survey conducted by Mercer Human Resource Consulting. The safety survey evaluated 215 locations for crime levels and internal stability. All the Canadian cities covered by the survey appear in the top 20 rankings for personal safety and security. Calgary, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, and Vancouver rank jointly in position 18 with scores of 112. In the United States, the five safest cities tied in 45th place: Honolulu; Houston; Lexington, Kentucky; San Francisco; and Winston Salem, N.C. New York was 58th, while Atlanta had the lowest U.S. ranking at 90. In Britain, the top-ranked city as far as safety is concerned is Glasgow, Scotland (39), followed by Birmingham (51) and London (69). "The top-ranking cities for personal safety and security are in politically stable countries with good international relations and sustainable economic growth," said Slagin Parakatil, senior researcher at Mercer. "Most of the low-scoring cities are in countries with civil unrest, little law enforcement and high levels of crime." The Iraqi capital, Baghdad, was ranked the world's least safe city, followed by Abidjan, Ivory Coast; Bangui, Central African Republic; the Nigerian cities of Port Harcourt and Lagos; and Bogota, Colombia. In its overall quality-of-life survey, Mercer evaluated 39 criteria such as crime, health, education and transport. Other cities at the top in that category are Auckland, New Zealand; Bern; Copenhagen, Denmark; and Sydney, Australia. Honolulu and San Francisco ranked highest in the United States at joint 25th, while New York and London tied at 39th. In Asia, the top three cities were Singapore and Tokyo, both 34th, and Yokohama, Japan (36). In South America, the top quality-of-life cities are Montevideo, Uruguay (76) and Buenos Aires, Argentina (78). - On the Net: www.mercerhr.com/qualityofliving
  8. http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/_/i...sion= 10 Artists to Watch: Brooke Valentine Houston R&B teen hits big with help from Lil Jon By LAUREN GITLIN Who At nineteen, Houston R&B songstress Valentine has already been in the game for more than five years. In 1999, local producer Deja selected Valentine to front a Destiny's Child-style girl group. After the project imploded, Valentine continued working with Deja on solo material, logging so many hours in his studio after school that her mom kicked her out of the house. "She's like, 'When I'm not at work I'm going to be with my daughter,' " says Valentine. "But I was always writing." Her sacrifice paid off: Valentine's debut album, Chain Letter, is out March 15th. Sound Valentine teamed with Lil Jon and Big Boi for her hit single "Girlfight" and cut the cocky kiss-off "Blah Blah Blah" with Ol' Dirty Bastard shortly before he died. But she's just as comfortable being a girly-girl. On the R&B track "Long as You Come Home," she sings with the vulnerability of her influences Anita Baker and Janet Jackson. "That's me," she says. "One day I'm with a guy and I'm like, 'Shut up!' and then the next day I'm like, 'Hug me!' " (Posted Mar 10, 2005)
  9. How did I miss that? I love the Travel Channel and watch it often. Oh well, hopefully it'll air again soon. Don't we have a funeral museum? That along with the beer can house would add a nice quirky touch.
  10. Just curious. I haven't much of a clue. I'd get a Houston celebrity to narrate. I guess I'd include the San Jacinto monument and Johnson Space Center. A piece on the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. The theater district and museums. Speaking of museums, why don't we have a Plaza of Wax?! I know they're tacky, but they are a lot of fun to visit. I just thought it might be fun. Not that the Travel Channel will ever do a special on Houston. They don't even mention Houston in their shows about Texas. Their series "Road Trip" did a Texas episode without Houston even mentioned once. I saw a recent special about food in Texas and Houston went ignored. There's a show airing tomorrow morning called "Texas: Home on the Range". Haven't seen it, but I'm going to record it.
  11. They to the same thing on the Fox News channel. On the bottom right hand side where they show the highs and lows for all the major cities, they skip Houston most of the time.
  12. Coming on in just a little while. I've seen TRIO's occasional programs about Texas before and they're cringe-worthy. You know, the redneck huntin' bubba type. It's one of those pop-culture channels. It's not going to be pretty.
  13. Nevermind! TheFutonCritic.com: HOT PROPERTY (NBC, New!) - Feature writer Gail Gilchriest ("My Dog Skip") has landed a cast-contingent pilot order from the Peacock for a new comedy about three immoral real estate agents in Houston. The project, not to be confused with Suzanne Martin's similarly-titled comedy pilot "Hot Properties" at ABC, is set up at 20th Century Fox Television and Brad Grey Television.
  14. Thanks for the info. Is this supposed to be a reality series or sitcom?

  16. Feb. 9, 2005, 11:25PM Father and son given free condo, fresh start Astro Roger Clemens teams up with TV's While You Were Out to help a family in need By MIKE MCDANIEL Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle Wednesday was a drippy day in Houston, but for Chris Comer and his 12-year-old son Chad, it rained blessings. The father and son stepped into a new and professionally decorated two-bedroom condominium Wednesday afternoon and were surprised to find lights, cameras and seven-time Cy Young winner Roger Clemens waiting inside. "Words cannot explain what I was feeling," said Chris Comer, who was told the condo was his, mortgage-free, a gift from the Roger Clemens Foundation. In December, the Comers came to the attention of Clemens and the people who run his foundation. Clemens' charitable organization learned that Chris
  17. Listed on thefutoncritic.com as a project in development: LAWS OF CHANCE (ABC) - KaDee Strickland ("The Stepford Wives") has scored the lead role in the drama pilot, about the life of unconventional Houston assistant district attorney Kelly Siegler, whose 95% success rate in court was partly due to her theatrical presentation in arguing cases. Gary Glasberg, Gina Matthews and Grant Scharbo are the executive producers of "Chance," which comes from 20th Century Fox Television and Roundtable Ink. 18. Real nice. Posted on Tue, Feb. 01, 2005 http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews...ts/10787702.htm SUPER? BOWLS The Super Bowl tour of cities is in the middle of a three-year run through less-than-impressive areas: XXXVIII: HOUSTON Did you know? Houston is the fourth most populous city in the nation, behind New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Those three others boast culture and fine dining; Houston has crushing, hair-melting humidity. 19. I guess that makes sense considering the show was on NBC. I wonder why they just didn't leave it KPRC then. Make it more authentic. I remember a couple of years ago there was a miniseries on NBC called "Kingpin" and some of the scenes took place in Houston. KPRC played a part in the show; only thing different was actors as the news anchors. But the graphics and everything were the same.
  20. lol! I've never seen the show myself, but it was spin-off of another soap, "Another World". "Texas" didn't last long, but it seems to have had a cult following. I think some fans are even lobbying for SOAPnet to acquire the rights to reruns. I'd certainly watch out of curiosity. It does have a catchy theme(s). I wonder if they ever did any location shoots within actual episodes. 21. Wasn't the first film to ever win an Academy award ("Wings") filmed in Houston? Seems I heard that a long time ago. Howard Hughes was born here. Attended Rice University. Buried here.
  22. Me neither. Same reasons. One thing I found funny, though. I had it once and they were showing some dog tied up. Apparently it had been without food or something like that (that's not the funny part). After I got a good look, I realized that it was about five houses down from my grandma's house.
  23. Oh man, I know what you mean. The movie was like a cartoon. Sela Ward's character - lol! What the heck? And that crappy country music they kept playing. The actor, Brent Mullen I think is his name, the guy who played Clara's husband really is from Houston. It wasn't a very good movie.
