  1. Time to update this with some other menus.... April 1956 Don't know the year on the one below, but the last date on the front is 1957.
  2. We have, er had (?), one: Museum of Houston. It hadn't been added to since it's inception last time I looked and it's getting an error right now. Don't know if it's permanently down or what...
  3. interesting....very interesting. Thanks for the topic.
  4. Yep Trader Vics would have been one of the cool places. Here's some super cool places in the late 60s: How about catching an Astros or Oilers game in their new stadium, the Astrodome? Or hang out at the newly opened Astroworld across the street? Catch a show at the Sam Houston Coliseum. Jimi Hendrix played there in Aug '68. Mother Blues on Congress featured soul, rock, r&b, mini-skirt revues and dancing! The Swinging Door on Travis had Go Go floor shows every 15 minutes. Named one of the latest rages in night spots by Swank Magazine in 1967. Anheuser-Busch and Falstaff both had breweries with tours here! More tiki flavor over at the Polyasian West on Westheimer; serving tropical beverages like the Bali Hai, Mai Tai and the Voodoo Bowl. Yum!
  5. Did you get the address? I see the numbers 21 & 19 on the mailbox. Is that 2119 Navigation?
  6. Updated the address for Club Luau and El Fenix restaurants...
  7. Thanks for the article Bruce. Yes, I recently found out where it was and I have recently obtained pics of both the Poly Asian and Club Luau menus that I will be posting soon!

Wow, incredible house! Now if I only had an extra $2.5 mil laying around...
  10. Geez, what is that giant white thing next door? Wonder if they can see into the courtyard from their 2nd story windows...
  11. Cool house, thanks for posting zoyort! Interesting about the insurance. Our homeowner's policy was dropped last year too - though we didn't have any claims, or a flat roof. Are flat roofs considered less stable or something? We had to find a new agent and combine all our auto and home insurance together to get a good rate.
  12. Hey Marty, welcome to the forum! I think I have seen your web page somewhere - the descriptions of your pics sounds familiar. Could you post some of the links?
  13. man that's gaudy... gaudy awful!
  14. Here's a link to an article by the Houston Press concerning the brick streets in the Fourth Ward: Fourth ward brick streets Some interesting quotes from the article:
  15. Ah, thanks - did u see the b&w one I just uploaded?
  16. Don't know the year on this PC, but pretty old. So is this an old picture of Hobby Airport? Here's one from December 1954
  17. Thanks Mark. Do you know what happened to the original 8mm film? Today that film should be able to be converted directly to digital format and then to DVD. The quality would probably be improved - not so sure for 8mm but it's possible. Also I bet there are other interesting scenes in the original footage not on the DVD. Sounds like a cool side project.
  18. Haven't seen the PBS series - I *think* parts of it were for sale in the past on VHS only. I believe the GND video comes from footage shot by Mack ?? (dont remember his last name) over the years. You could email Judy Dudek at gill.judy@sbcglobal.net and find out if they have any of the DVDs left. We would love to see the Playland pic posted here.
  19. Hey Mark - is this the same DVD as the GRD Videos Playland Park & Meyers Speedway DVD? Don't remember Almeda Speedway or the Houston Dragway being on that one. Thanks!
  20. Swarthmore Street in West University sometime in the early 1950s... great video - thanks!
  21. Yes, well there was something similar in the mid 70s we called the Batphone or the Batsiren - all that played was a high-pitched siren sound. I think it was actually some sort of phone company test equipment. LOL!
