So do we have any updated renderings for what will be going up here? As well as a timeline?- 630 replies

TMC Helix Park: Texas Medical Center Bio Research Campus
CaptainJilliams replied to Mab's topic in Going Up!
Okay, I might still prefer the previous design of the building, but the new tower looks great and makes up for the double helix change in my mind!- 1,227 replies

TMC Helix Park: Texas Medical Center Bio Research Campus
CaptainJilliams replied to Mab's topic in Going Up!
But I thought it was fairly certain that they had done away with the helix building design and were only going to make a ground level park in the shape of a double helix. If I'm wrong, then great, I would prefer the original design. But until someone can confirm that, I wish they would stop using old renderings.- 1,227 replies

TMC Helix Park: Texas Medical Center Bio Research Campus
CaptainJilliams replied to Mab's topic in Going Up!
Man, they keep teasing us with the old renderings of the double-helix shaped building. I know they are more readily available, but every time I see them it gives me false hope.- 1,227 replies

If Rice Box is the tenant, they are going to make a killing in that area. Rice Village would be the perfect place to open another location. I know their location on Shepherd has seen great traffic and success.

Discovery West: Mixed-Use Development Downtown By Skanska
CaptainJilliams replied to Moore713's topic in Going Up!
Agreed. My dream would be to have a new aquarium/amusement park complex built near Minute Maid/Discovery Green. If the highway cap park ever happens in downtown, that would also be an excellent area to have it.- 1,094 replies

I don’t know if this is the section to post this, but the past week or so I’ve noticed that they have completely leveled the original NW Transit Center near where 610 and 10 meet. I didn’t realize they were going to completely rebuild it. I for one am happy, the previous structure always looked dated with the white pyramid roof.

Beautiful buildings, but I think anything designed like that would be sorely out of place on the Rice campus. I feel as though the current design, while it has its issues, is consistent with the architecture seen around campus. Maybe if it were visualized you could change my mind, but then again I think taking the conservative approach won't upset the status quo. Belmont University in Nashville is taking a similar approach with their new Performing Arts Center (in terms of trying to match the existing style of the campus):

But as the Instagram post confirms, they are raising the final beam on the 26th of this year. I don't know if I've ever heard of a topping out celebration occurring exactly 1 year after the fact, seems either wrong or bizarre 🤔
-
That's great and all, but someone should've told them that this year is 2019.

Texas Tower: 47-Story Office Tower At 845 Texas Ave.
CaptainJilliams replied to democide's topic in Downtown
Really sad to hear. To me, my initial thoughts are it may have been one of the photographers you see on social media and instagram who scale buildings and cranes to get shots of the city.- 2,216 replies

This was posted today as a story on the Buffalo Bayou Park’s Instagram page. Looks like the work will be split into 7 phases to minimize disruption for park users. Some areas/paths will close down temporarily.
-
Wow, I assumed this would be about 7-8 stories, but 20-25 stories is significant. Love that this area is growing so fast. I wonder how long it will be before the gas station near by changes hands.

Sovereign At The Ballpark: Multifamily At 100 Crawford St.
CaptainJilliams replied to LBC2HTX's topic in Going Up!
I know it's always good to have infill, but like I said before it is somewhat of a relief that this development isn't going forward. Considering how much trouble they had getting this together, it's likely the final product would've turned out to be cheap and sub-par along with being a bad design. It will be an issue going forward for any developer wishing to purchase that site, to either continue with something else or tear it all down.- 362 replies

I believe so, I know St. Louis, San Diego, and Washington D.C. have mixed-use developments surrounding their stadiums. And I know Denver is in the process of completing theirs, as seen below: ^^^ Again, this is in Denver, CO.

The Vic At The Interpose: Multifamily At 1111 Shepherd Dr.
CaptainJilliams replied to Ross's topic in The Heights
Drove by the site today to notice the fence that was around the property has been removed. I'm not sure if this is a bad sign moving forward, but it seems to indicate to me that works might not start anytime soon.- 136 replies

I'll take this project for sure. And yes, it looks like 11,000 sqft of GFR. I know it's not very tall or flashy in terms of color, but more residential in this area is a good thing. I live very close by and am within walking distance, I've walked past that site for almost 2 years now. More people are going to help the businesses in this area, and the GFR will bring even more options.
