Texas Monthly highlights Eldorado Ballroom ahead of the reopening.

Eldorado Ballroom is located at 3210 Elgin St in the Third Ward area. Rado Cafe and Hogan Brown Gallery - both from Lucille's Hospitality Group - occupy the first floor.

"As part of the recent renovation, Houston architecture firm Stern and Bucek restored the Eldorado’s famous wooden dance floor, giving a new generation of dancers the chance to strut their stuff on the glossy boards. Principal architect David Bucek used old drawings and photographs as references to ensure that the renovation was historically accurate. “Our big goal was, anything original about the building we wanted to maintain and protect,” Bucek said. “We’ve taken it back largely to what it was like in 1939.”'

"...[Senior construction superintendent Kenneth McGowan] pointed out numerous original elements that had been uncovered during the renovation: red-brick walls, a grand wooden staircase, hand-painted bathroom tiles. In order to maintain its designation as a historical building, the architects had to leave at least 95 percent of the structure untouched."

Lucille's Hospitality Group recently launched a website for The Eldorado Room. The hospitality group also created a new Instagram for the venue.

According to Eldorado Room's website,  Lucille’s 1913 operates the venue. Lucille's 1913 is "the philanthropic arm of Lucille’s Hospitality Group."

More from the website:

The reimagined Eldorado Ballroom channels the historic venue’s legacy as a visual and spiritual symbol of the Third Ward community. Operated by Lucille’s 1913 — the philanthropic arm of Lucille’s Hospitality Group — the Ballroom’s return serves as a living extension of the non-profit’s mission to empower communities to discover a self-sustainable livelihood through cultural and culinary arts. The venue’s future will honor its past, continuing to serve as a home for both established and emerging Black musicians to share their talents as well as providing a community-centered space for the neighborhood to host, gather, and celebrate.

Lucille's Hospitality Group is opening a dining concept in the Eldorado Ballroom at 3210 Elgin St. The restaurant group is helmed by chef Chris Williams of Lucille's, a restaurant in the Museum District.

Last year, Lucille's Hospitality Group announced a slew of new projects in the works. Rado / Rado Cafe was one of the reported concepts. It will supposedly be an all-day cafe serving coffee and cocktails.

Rado's exact location wasn't disclosed at the time of the announcement. It was only reported the all-day cafe would open in the Third Ward area. However, later reports revealed Rado will become part of Eldorado Ballroom at 3210 Elgin St.

As noted by Eater Houston, Rado is "named for the historic Eldorado Ballroom."

Here are the details about Rado and a forthcoming art gallery reported last year:

"In addition to partnering with Burrell to open Late August, Williams will also [open] Rado Cafe. Expected to open in the Third Ward in 2022, Rado will serve coffee, cocktails, and "cuisine with purpose," according to a release. Hogan Brown Gallery, a venue that will promote African American art and artists, will open as a companion to Rado."

"Locations for both Late August and Rado Cafe will be announced soon, a representative tells CultureMap."

A blurb about the location from a Houston Chronicle listicle last year:

"And in February, [Chris Williams] announced the creation of Lucille's Hospitality Group and several upcoming concepts: ...Rado Café and Hogan Brown Gallery in the Historic Eldorado Ballroom redevelopment..."

Instead of Rado Cafe, the new moniker for Lucille's Hospitality Group dining concept is The Rado MKT.

Located on the first floor of The Eldorado Ballroom at 3210 Elgin St, Rado MKT will also include a retail component.

Below are details about Rado MKT from the recently launched website for Eldorado Ballroom:

"The Rado MKT offers a retail shopping, wine shop & dining experience that celebrates 3rd Ward focused products and provides entrepreneurs the ability to showcase their goods."

There is a web domain for The Rado MKT. While the website is up, it's not set up for Rado MKT. Instead, it's a carbon copy of Lucille's Hospitality Group's website at the moment.

An Instagram account for Rado MKT was recently created.

The Rado MKT is a cafe, wine and retail shop opening soon at the Eldorado Ballroom. Located at 3210 Elgin St, the cafe is one of the latest concepts from Lucille's Hospitality Group.

In its role as operator, Lucille’s Hospitality Group, lead by James Beard Award Outstanding Restaurateur nominee Chris Williams, will have three venues in the building: the Hogan Brown Gallery, Rado Cafe & Market, and the Eldorado Ballroom.

All three venues are expected to open permanently in May and June, but Houstonians will get a sneak peek this Saturday, April 22 with Lucille’s seventh annual Prince Day. Held to commemorate the anniversary of Prince’s death on April 21, 2016, festivities kick off with an outdoor market from 1-6 pm that will preview many of Rado Cafe & Market’s vendors. From 8 pm - midnight, the Eldorado Ballroom will host a Prince tribute concert. General admission tickets are priced at $35. VIP tickets, priced at $77, include food prepared by Burrell, early admission to the venue, and priority access to table seating. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.

"Houston’s historic Eldorado ballroom will get its rooftop sign back. City Council voted to pass an amendment Wednesday that would allow rooftop signs to be built on top of historic buildings that used to have them.

The group in charge of the restoration, Project Row Houses, had previously been barred from adding the historically accurate rooftop sign because of Houston’s restrictive sign code."
