Olphart's Book Club

Recommended Posts

Good post. For some reason there are relatively few books about Houston. Most of what I have were dug up at Half Price Books or Brazos. A few other good ones that you can find new are

Houston Freeways by Max Concrete

Ephemeral City from Cite Magazine

Houston Then and Now by William Dylan Powell

Historic Houston by Betty Trapp Chapman

Houston Electric by Steven Baron

If you're shopping used there are some good photo books, and anything by George Fuermann.

As a newcomer to Houston (quite a while ago) I enjoyed "Ray Miller's Houston"

I might not otherwise have known that Lyndon B. Johnson was once a resident of my neighborhood. In the early 30's, he taught school in Houston and lived at the southeast corner of Hawthorne and Garrott. The house is still there.
