Is there a random MD Anderson discussion topic?

I've heard there are people from the Middle East who pay cash for cancer treatment at MD Anderson.

Kind of makes you wonder about the world-class doctors in the TMC.

About 10 years ago, I had a family member who used to work for Aramco. His job was basically to coordinate and fly in Aramco employees and their family for cancer treatment from Saudi Arabia. The company used to pay for the cancer treatment, the housing (most of the time they lived in the Double Tree next to the galleria, I think they had some kind of contract with them), and a spending allowance. He used to work with about 10 patients per month, often times they would be here for a couple of months to a year then fly back when they're done. He no longer works there so I'm not sure if things have changed.

Not sure what it makes you wonder.  What difference does it make if treatment is mostly paid by insurance company or patient?  Either way the doctor gets paid.
