I got a speeding ticket

I got a speeding ticket two week ago. My question is:

will DSC (driving school course) help me?

I rather to pay the fine but the last time i got a ticket was 3 years ago, and there was surcgarge (256 a year for three years). I don't want to pay the ticket fee and get surcharge bill.

anyone has ever got a speeding ticket lately?

Thank you in advance :)

yes, it will help.

but you can always ask for "defered adjudication" (looks at red) and just pay the fine and be on your way.

if red corrects me, he'll send you a bill.

if you were speeding less then 25 over, you will most likely be approved to take defensive driving. you have to request the judge to allow it (via mail or in person). then you pay the court fees (~$100 for Houston), take the course, and get you driver's record from the state ($10). but you don't have to pay for the actual ticket.

i just took it at getdefensive.com - it was cheap and relatively easy.

this is the best way to go, it'll keep the ticket completely off your record, so your insurance won't go up. you can only take defensive driving for a ticket once a year, so if you get another one, i would go the deferred adjudication route. for that, you have to pay the whole fine and your record is clean, but you can't get another ticket for 3 months (usually). if you do, you end up with both tickets on your record.

Sorry to hear about the speeding ticket. I'm not a lawyer but I speak from a lot of experiance. That is as far as I will go with that!!!

1. Get a ValentineOne radar detector, argue all you want but it is the best. I just drove to and back from San Angelo and it was a joy to be able to see the police prior to them seeing me everytime / all the time.

2. Get a traffic lawyer to represent you and go to court. Yes it takes an hour or two or three but I have never yet not been dismissed from the ticket. Deferred adjudication is a good route to take as well.

Either way with Defensive Driving or going to court you are going to pay the fine in time but don't pay the ticket price as the lawyer should cost you approx $100 and that's it.

Good Luck,

Scharpe St Guy

I got a ticket in March for speeding. Can you do deferred adjudication if you were going 25 mph or over? Although I will most likely just go to court.

Be careful with your ValentineOne. Although by far the highest-quality radar detector on the market, some traffic cops consider nabbing folks with radar detectors to be a form of sport. They can be especially dangerous in rural areas and small towns, where they only even turn the radar gun on when they see a car coming down the road. They're really bad about that at night. They'll also single you out if they spot the LEDs from the device if you've got it mounted on your windshield.

But ad a life time 100 club member ship sticker, along with the state trooper association, and you will never have a problem.

False. They can't see the stickers effectively at night...especially if they're aiming their radar at a car coming at them with headlights on. That, and some of them are actually professionals.

But the officer can see the sticker on your back window as he approaches your car. Assuming the officer is swayed by the sticker in the first place. The sticker won't prevent you from being stopped but once stopped the officer still has some discretion on whether to give you a ticket or a warning.

I would agree at least here in Houston a 100 Club and State Trooper Association sticker can sway the officer to give you a warning from an actual ticket.

Add a CHL (Concealed Hand Gun License) to the stickers above and your good to go. Why? Due to the fact that now the Police Officer knows you have been checked out by the local, state, and FBI and nothing prevented you from obtaining the license. Which equals that your a legit citizen or at least a citizen who has not yet been proved to be non-legit.

And if you don't want to shell out for a Valentine, the next best thing is the Escort Passport 8500 X50, which i've been using for years. does its job.

even in Houston, i've seen more and more cops sitting on the freeways over the hill with their gun off, waiting for a car that looks fast, then turning on his radar gun.

also, laser is being deployed more often. though the Valentine and Escort have laser detectors, it will usually be too late if you get tagged. the beamwidth is really narrow, so chances are if you detect it, he already has your speed.

Go to court. The damn cop may not even show up. Then you are home free.

if you plan to go to court, delay your court date. then they'll be even less chances of the cop showing. if you get a lawyer they'll do this for you.

personally, i think defensive driving is the way to court. hassle free, not that expensive (even if you get it dismissed, you still have to pay court fees).

also, if you plea not guilty, and the cop does show up so you don't get a dismissal, you no longer have a choice of taking DD.

I have been to this link you pasted. but I think that I can't go ahead and register. I have to submit my documents first to court. then, they will tell me to go to driving school. That waht I was told when I called them.

Thank you for your advice

Thank you everyone. Your replies really helped me.

you have always been very helpful.

You got a ticket in March? And you are just NOW asking what you should do about it? If you're not kidding us, you could be in some deep doo-doo if a cop stops you for any reason.

The first thing they'll do is run your DL and license tag number through the computer to check for for warrants and/or unpaid tickets. They will find your unpaid speeding ticket and you will go to jail, directly to jail, you will NOT pass GO, you will not collect 200 dollars, and you will stay in jail until the unpaid ticket is paid and resolved. I speak from personal experience. It happened to me just that way one night.

If you really did get a speeding ticket in March, and you haven't paid it or resolved it by now I'm betting there's already a warrant out for your arrest. If you got the ticket in Houston, you would be very wise to go to the City Courthouse on Lubbock Street and tell them you're ready to come to Jesus and pay it. Doing nothing is the worst thing you could do.
